What was the answer to your question because I'm wanting to do the same thing. Use a 4 weight yarn instead of a 5 weight.

You can hold 2 strands of 4 weight which makes a bulky 5, just make sure you check your gauge

I'm doing that but with some notifications... I wanted something like a turtle neck, so the initial 56 st were fine for that (but instead of chaining 6+1 in the beginning I did 16+1). The rounds look the same, always incrementing 2 at the V stitch but you will need to do more rows till it falls over your shoulder nicely, and from the continue with that size as a base.

I've made a couple of your sweaters now and they so easy to follow. I find though that they fit great across the bust but then because I have a really small waist they seem too baggy after the bust area. Where would I begin to steadily decrease so it tapers in a bit more and not look weird?
