I think that this braid may be a better one to start with. It is not a Japanese braid. It is a variation of basic weaving, which I have 'translated' for the square plate. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZLHZGSlnbx_iqs

Hello. Thanks a lot for your clear explanations and advices. I was searching a video to make flat kumihimo with paracord. My next project is to make a fancy strap with a kumihimo flat braid for a little string instrument called charango. Your models inspire me. I have the plate for square braiding. I have the ropes. I have the process and the inspiration now with you videos. So let's go to do it. I hope it will work.

I am having a problem setting up - knowing where each cord starts and ends - with all your cords the same color I can't see what goes where - especially the one to the "e"

You were vague about working with more yhan 1 color. What arr a couple of the thread placements, by the playe numbers, for creating the diagonal pattern? Thank you.

Thank you, I'm going to try this one. As I'm still a beginner, can I ask, if I want to do the angled stripes, using different coloured cords on either side, would I match the cord that starts at 'e' to the left or right hand side colour?
@prumcrae2779
@prumcrae2779 4 жыл бұрын
Linda Dewhurst In this braid the cords work their way around the plate and that is what creates the diagonal stripe, so you cannot have a different colour on the sides. There is a braid where you can choose the colour for the sides, but that has a horizontal stripe.

Pru McRae Hi again. I'm not sure I phrased that question right then. The effect I'd like to try is the bottom purple and white one that you show at the start of the video with the diagonal pattern and you mention you get that effect by using a different coloured cord on one side?

thank you for amazing tutorials. I was hoping to try and make some micro-macrame and bought some 0.2mm beading thread and I've not found many uses for it. I have made a beaded kumihimo bracelet with one of your videos bet i tried my own variation and didn't count my beads right. But anyway, would you have any recommendations on how to use over 5,000 yds of such small cord? TIA
@prumcrae2779
@prumcrae2779 4 жыл бұрын
Russell B You could try using it in multiples of 6-8 cords in each slot and working them together as if they are one cord.

@@prumcrae2779 Thank you for your reply. I tried your square board 3-turn? method yesterday and I do like that pattern. have cut long strands and doubled and tripled them and twisted them so they'd braid back into itself as a cord. It works, but it's just so time consuming. I have thousands of feet that I can't continue doing this with. I will use it for knotting pearls and take your advice to try multiple strands on a board. I'll look through your vids and find the simplest, quickest method and just keep making them. I will also cut large (60pcs) threads and just make simple braids from them. I saw a vid like that and it looked ok. It had a boho feel and i can add some shells and other charms. Thank you again, and I love learning from your videos. you have the overall best.

Hey, @Prumihimo, i’m not sure if you’ve included this in the video but for this particular braid did you use a clip on weight to tension and braid? And for that matter, if you use a weight, do you need to adjust the weight frequently as in one of the other flat braids on your channel that is braided on the diagonal and therefore exits the square plate from the side all wonky?
@Prumihimo
@Prumihimo 3 жыл бұрын
I generally prefer to use a weight with all of my braids, but when I am filming it is easier not to. With this one you do not need to do the frequent adjusting of the weight because the braid comes out straight. However, it is best not to let the weight get too far from the disk for any sort of braiding because it starts to swing and may affect the tension.
@locolotus7716
@locolotus7716 3 жыл бұрын
@@Prumihimo Thank you for informing me of that. It’s nice to know it comes out straight for one, i tried the other pattern and had a terrible time keeping the sides even. And for another thing, this is the first i’m hearing someone recommended you keep the weight higher up on the braid anyway. I’ve noticed a swing from the weight myself, but, to be honest, a lot of my set up is makeshift. The disk and square plate it cut from cardboard, and my weight is a hefty little butterknife. Oh, and i went and hastily made some wooden bobbins from a piece of scrap wood i found around the house. Needless to say I’m a bit of a beginner.

@prumcrae2779
@prumcrae2779 4 жыл бұрын
In this braid there are 3 cord moves which go across the braid, e to 13, 3 to e and 17 to 3. All the other cord moves are from top to bottom without crossing over any cords. That is what makes this braid chunkier than other braids.

What am I missing? I don't see how you started this braid. I mean from an empty plate. You say "here's the set up" but all of the cords are already on! I like Kumihimo but frustrated because I can't see how to start the braids. HELP!
