This is very helpful. But if you're making a piece of jewelry, won't it be difficult to find a clasp to fit on such a thick braid?

I'm new to kumi and was about to give up until when I came across this video. I work with gemstones and did NOT like the squishy feel, could not figure out for the life of me what the problem was. Now I know. Thank you so much!

Thank you so much for this video! I'm shifting from 8-cord beaded patterns, which worked fine, to 12 and 16-cord patterns that keep forming a too-flexible structure and the designs are distorted by the lack of an even shape. Now I know what's been missing from several failed test braids.

So to get a 20mm thick rope. With a 10mm core I need to braid with 10mm cord/rope.?

Hmmm but I want to braid it around a doubled over satin rattail trim cord that has the loop at the bottom to put a button through 🤔

Why didn't you show the braids at the end. Like the finished version of what you were doing. I seriously can't believe you ended the video like that. I'm sitting here wondering what did it come out looking like. But now I'll never know

Hello Pru, I'm a bit confused as to why you use coloured S-lon as it really doesn't make a difference because it's the beads that show (and make the pattern - not the S-lon) or am I missing something? I have been using 1 colour of S-lon all the way and it's the bead colour that make the pattern. I hope you see what I mean and that I've explained properly but it could be I'm missing something here. The core cord works wonderfully and I love this method. Another great video and well explained.

Sometimes you can see a small amount of cord between the beads or at the ends, so I tend to use matching cord, but it is not really necessary.

If I wanted to use paracord as the core, would I leave it intact...or removed the inner threads?? Thanks very much! Love your videos.

I would leave it intact for a nice firm braid.

Thanks for this very easy to understand video. What happpens if you normally braid top left down first then bottom right up?
@Prumihimo
@Prumihimo 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Loretta. It is the same. Just keep the cord in between the moves from top to bottom and from bottom to top. The braid will form around the core cord and give your braid a nice, firm feel.

Hi Pru. I didn't learn how to braid around a core this way but it makes sense and I'll give it a try. Say, I would love to see a closeup of the necklace you're wearing. Is there a pic of it on your site?

Does anyone know whether adding a core as shown in this example alters the length of cord needed, the number of beads required, or the finished diameter of the braid?

Thank you for sharing. Your tips are very beneficial to a newbie like me. One question-is it necessary to stretch out the bracelet with beads like you do a bracelet without beads. Thanks
@Prumihimo
@Prumihimo 7 жыл бұрын
Great question. I generally find that when you have beads on all 8 cords the beads stretch out the braid, so that when you are finished there is no more stretch. It is worth giving the braid a tug, just in case!

How do you finish it off? I have a charging cable, the plastic wore off so I decided to braid around the cord to fix it, but finishing it off at the end......any ideas?

@Claire Wurster how did you end up finishing your project? I've been wanting to do something similar to my headphone cords since I wear them to sleep, but I tooss and turn a lot which causes them to break quickly. I'm hoping the braid will reinforce the cord but I don't know the best way to go about it.

@@abigailblackmon1144 what I did was tie off the ends of the cords, then put some heat shrink over the cord end where it was tied off to seal it. It has worked very well and hasn't broken.

@@KazukiMatsuoka oh also! How did you ancor your stands to the cord? since you probably wouldn't want to include an electronic cord in the first square knot or whatever it is that binds them all together

@@abigailblackmon1144 I just used regular cotton cords and just worked it through without thinking too much of it, once I put the strands together (without tying the start end) I put the cable in the middle and just started making it from there.

When finishing a bracelet with one-two cm of braid with no beads do I first cut the core back then continue braiding with out the core or keep the core in the piece and continue plain braiding around the core?
@Prumihimo
@Prumihimo 6 жыл бұрын
Good question! It depends on the size of the end cap you want to use. I usually keep the core in the braid at the end, so that it matches the size of the braid at the beginning.

P, I have ultra-sensitive skin and can not wear metals or anything that is not soft. Do you have a lesson that addresses this common problem with product tips? Also, can not use products with any VOC as the chemicals (even some dyes and always perfumes) are very irritating. Thank you! Constance in Prescott, AZ, USA.

Thank you, Pru! I have several collapsed braids where I used 6/0 seed beads. I have seen other beaders suggesting to use a core, but I never understand what that meant!
