I'm 63 yrs and had never heard of 7th Day Baptist or Church of God 7th in my lifetime. I have been wanting to get away from pagan holidays and celebrate FATHER'S HOLY DAYS. I pray these churches would be more visible to those who have been wanting to get back to Sabbath Day worship.

I grew up in a COG 7th day. The only thing I remember differently than what is stated here is that there was a "going to hell" for not believing or following. I'm not sure what you mean by "no eternal hell". Even just a few years ago my mother told me she is afraid I'm going to hell and she said she believes hell is an eternal fire pit. That's what I remember being promulgated in this cult throughout my whole childhood. My friend would cry herself to sleep at night fearing it. In the end none of it matters. They're ALL FICTION and wishful thinking. Good times!

Thank you for looking into this branch of Christianity and summarizing it so well. I want to clarify: While most COGs believe that the "one who doesn't believe" will be "put out of existence", they believe that Christ will rule a physical kingdom here on Earth during and after the Millennium. Those who are not "called" in "this life" will be resurrected to a physical existence in the coming Kingdom with Christ as its King. This extends the "calling" to everyone. Those who reject the "calling" will be "put out of existence". There are disagreements about some of the timing, but I believe the paragraph above reasonably summarizes what most believe.
@aaronwalcott513

That's an interesting position to hold. Where'd you (plural) get this from?
@paulrowe6201
@paulrowe6201 7 ай бұрын
@@aaronwalcott513 Ezekiel 37 contains the prophecy of the Valley of Dry Bones, where the dead of Israel are resurrected. These are not the righteous of Israel, so this is not a reference to the first resurrection; this is a reference to the second resurrection. These people are given physical bodies and live a physical life. The following chapters, Ezekiel 38 & 39, contain the prophecy of Gog and Magog attacking Israel, a land of unwalled villages. This obviously doesn't happen before the Millennium; Israel will not enjoy that kind of peace before the Millennium. This is also a prophecy about physical people living physical lives here on Earth during or after the Millennium. Since the prophecies in Ezekiel are, to this point, largely ordered chronologically, it makes sense that the prophecies of Ezekiel 38 & 39 follow chronologically after the prophecy of Ezekiel 37. Since Revelation indicates that "the rest of the dead" are not raised until after the Millennium, then Ezekiel 37 - 39 all happen after the Millennium. Isaiah 19:19 - 24 also mentions the nations physically going to Jerusalem to keep the Feast of Booths year after year and making sacrifices. Isaiah 2 indicates that God will have a physical seat of power on Mount Zion. Hosea 3 and Matthew 19 both support that David will be resurrected and serve as the king of Israel again. Jesus expands this to say that the twelve disciples will rule over the twelve tribes of Israel. These scriptures indicate people, whether descendants of those who survived the Tribulation or those who have been resurrected, living physical lives on Earth under the rulership of Jesus and resurrected saints. What about those who reject the calling being put out of existence? This is primarily derived from an analysis of God's promise of eternal life to those who believe in Him. For one to be damned and tormented for eternity, they must also be given eternal life. Why does God promise eternal life only to the righteous if the unrighteous would also receive eternal life so they can experience their damnation and torment?

@@michaelstaggs1880 In Acts 15, at the Apostolic Council in Jerusalem, which convened to discuss the question of whether followers of Christ needed to adhere to the Mosaic Law, the Apostles agreed that they did not. Thus, in verse 28, they instructed the Gentile Christians "It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to burden you with anything beyond the following requirements: 29 You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things." Throughout the writing of Paul we are told that obedience to the Law has been replaced by following the Holy Spirit. In Gal 5:4, Paul wrote: "You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace." In fact, this is why Matt through Rev is called the "New Testament" or New Covenant because it replaces to Mosaic Covenant. I encourage you to read Galatians, Hebrews, 2 Corinthians and Romans 1. I also encourage you to shift your focus form the Law to the Spirit. "The Law brings death, but the Spirit brings life." 2 Cor 3:6

As far as I know, the Mosaic law is specifically for the Israelites. It's the bond of covenant between God and them. Messianic Jews are smart, for they accept Jesus as the Saviour, whilst the Biblical Jews did not. Messianic Jews thus get to avoid the Great Tribulation.

Genesis 6:11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. Habakkuk 1:3 Why dost thou shew me iniquity, and cause me to behold grievance? for spoiling and violence are before me: and there are that raise up strife and contention. Revelation Chapter 17 1And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters: 2With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. 3So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. 4And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: 5And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. It is more than likely Mystery Babylon brethren has to be the earth God created many years ago before our Savior would die for us on the cross to reconcile us to God back then of course the earth became corrupted with sin after both Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit in the garden.

Interesting that they don't believe that the Holy Spirit is a separate entity since Jesus told the people that the "comforter" was the Holy Spirit. And when the voice of God was heard in the heavens above the Holy Spirit was seen in the form of a dove at Jesus baptism. There is another example of the presence of the Holy Spirit exampled in the Bible someplace but I need to study the scriptures again to find it.

@@MultiRm ah, definitely not accurate. There's no biblical binary or trinitary proclamation, simply oneness is proclaimed over and over. God just IS. The confusion comes from the trinitarian word which is pagan, and it was forced due to political reasons. However those three entities are clearly codependent on one another and exist in some fashion. We don't get to understand the mechanism, nor is it a required for salvation. But the claim that it's a binary or a trinitary exclusively is both wrong. God IS. He is the great I AM.

The following is Scriptural proof who Jesus really is and that He is much more than just the Son of God. Paul said in Galatians 1:12 that he was not taught by any man but was taught by Jesus himself which means whatever Paul said was what Jesus told him to say. Paul said in 1 Timothy 3:16,"AND WITHOUT CONTROVERSY GREAT IS THE MYSTERY OF GODLINESS, GOD was manifest in the FLESH (Jesus), justified in the SPIRIT, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, and received up into glory." Paul said in 2 Corinthians 3:17,"Now the LORD IS THAT SPIRIT, and where the Spirit of the Lord is there is liberty." Jesus is speaking in Revelation 2:7,"He that has an ear, let him hear what the SPIRIT says to the churches...." And Paul said in Ephesians 4:4, "For there is one body, ONE SPIRIT....verse 5 ONE LORD, ONE Faith and ONE BAPTISM." Paul said in Colossians 2:8-10,"Beware lest any man fool you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. 9 FOR IN HIM DWELLS ALL THE FULLNESS OF THE GODHEAD BODILY." Jesus is not just part of the Godhead - Jesus IS the Godhead. Paul said in Hebrews 1:8, "But unto the SON he said, Thy throne O GOD is forever and ever...." Jesus said in Revelation 21:6-7,"And he said unto me (John) it is done, I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I (Jesus) will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of life freely. 7 He that overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his GOD, and he shall be my SON." Paul said in Titus 2:13, "Looking for that blessed hope, and glorious appearance of the great GOD and our SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST." Acts 7:59, "And they stoned Stephen, calling upon GOD, and saying LORD JESUS, receive my spirit." 1 John 5:20,"And we know that the SON of God is come, and has given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his SON Jesus Christ, THIS IS THE TRUE GOD, AND ETERNAL LIFE." Isaiah 9:6,"For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son (Jesus) is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful, THE MIGHTY GOD, THE EVERLASTING FATHER, ..." Jesus said in Revelation 1:8, "I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, says the Lord, which is, which was, and is to come, THE ALMIGHTY." Jesus said in Revelation 2:7, "He that has an ear, let him hear what the SPIRIT says unto the Churches....." Jesus said in Mark 16:16, "He that believes and is BAPTIZED shall be Saved, but he that believes not shall be damned." Jesus addressed what damned means in Luke 16:19-31, Matthew 13:42, Matthew 25:41, Mark 9:45-46, Revelation 20:15, and Revelation 21:8. Jesus said in Matthew 28:19, "Go therefore and teach all nations BAPTIZING them in the name (SINGULAR name and not names) OF the Father, and OF the Son, and OF the Holy Ghost." Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are titles and not names. Every time Jesus disciples baptized anyone in water they invoked Jesus Name at baptism which is Acts 2:38, Acts 8:14, Acts 8:38, Acts 9:18, Acts 10:44-48, Acts 16:15, Acts 16:33, Acts 18:7, Acts 18:8, Acts 19:3-5, and Acts 22:16. Peter said in Acts 4:12, "Neither is there salvation in any other, for there is NONE OTHER NAME under heaven given among men whereby we must be SAVED." Some say the thief on the cross next to Jesus was not Baptized yet Jesus told him he would be with him that day in Paradise. Jesus had not yet given the COMMANDMENT to be Baptized in His Name until after he rose from the dead and just before he ascended into heaven. The thief or anyone else could not have been Baptized in His Name because they did not know about it. There is no t one scripture that says a person receives the Holy Ghost just because they are a believer. Acts 19:1-5 is a good example. If you are convinced you need to get Baptized in water in Jesus Name and get Baptized with the Holy Ghost - which is addressed in Mark 16:17 (Jesus speaking): Acts 2:4 (Pentecost), Acts 8:17, Acts 9:18, Acts 10:44-48, and Acts 19:3-5. Do a search, type in "United Pentecostal Church International", slightly scroll down to just below the red box, and type in your zip code. Then a screen will show a Church nearest you that will do that. If you do the above you will be making SURE your name is written in the Lamb's Book Of Life. Jesus said in John 10:27,"My Sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me."

Thanks for a great defense of the deity of Jesus Christ! I'm curious if you distinguish between "receiving" the Holy Spirit as the disciples did in the upper room in John 20:22, and being "baptized" in the Holy Spirit as Jesus instructed in Act 1:8? And, bonus question, is there a difference between being "baptized" in the Spirit and being "filled" or "come upon" by the HS, since the two phrases are often used interchangeably? (Relax. I'm on your side. :) I'm a 66 year old charismatic semi retired pastor. )

There is a mistake in your summary. Many Church of God congregations do not believe that if you do not become a Christian in this life that you are annihilated. Most of the churches of God that came out of the Worldwide Church of God believe that the vast majority of people are not called in this life and therefore are not being judged with regard to their eternal life. By far the vast majority of humanity has never even heard the Gospel and others will not respond to it because they have rejected God's authority in their lives and thus been sealed by God into reprobate or lawless minds. They will be called when they are resurrected in the 2nd resurrection. Being part of the 2nd resurrection is not advantageous because it brings with it judgment and punishment for evils committed in this life, but God will extend mercy to the majority because most people are not hate-filled atrocity committing Hitler types or criminals. The Churches of God that keep the 7th day Sabbath generally also keep the same Holy Days as the Jews do because they are commanded by God in the scriptures. Christmas and Easter are based on pagan holidays and are therefore not kept.

Church if God 7th Day. You might be thinking of a different group. Our statement of faith is listed in the printed booklet This We Belive, all our congregations are Sabath keeping; that’s why 7Th Daybos part of the name.

Strange that it bothers so few Protestants that there are thousands and thousands of different denominations, all reading the same Bible, yet believing, interpreting, and teaching different things. That's not what Jesus wanted. It's not what Paul taught either. Example: 1 Cor 1:10. Jesus created 1 Church, not thousands and thousands of them, most if not all, teaching error in some aspect. Jesus created One Church in Matt 16:18, the pillar and foundation of truth, in 1 Tim 3:15, and the Final Authority in Matt 18:15-17. In 107AD, St. Ignatius of Antioch, a Bishop in Jesus's Church, wrote a letter calling it "Catholic" or, Universal. There was no Bible until the late 4th Century when the Catholic Church canonized the New Testament at the Council of Rome in 382AD. Martin Luther opened a huge can of worms.

As a Fundamentalist pastor, this division does bother me, as it should. But the alternative is even worse. Christ called us to follow him and be led by the Spirit. This certainly creates huge variation as we all try to figure God out. But Christ also forbid the monolithic approach when he said, "Call no man your father/leader, for God is your father/leader". He knew that a Pope like leader would likely go astray and take everyone with him. There is safety in independent thought and searching.

@@PokerMonkey Jesus' admonition was religious in nature, not familial. Just as God told the Israelites not to get a king because he wanted to be their king. If you knew the heart of God, you'd understand why the Pope is a usurper and an abomination before him.

@@michaelstaggs1880 The word "church" is the Greek word "Ecclesia", a word Jesus coined. For example, "I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it." And again, in Matt 18: " If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector." "Church" is used 112 times in the NT, including 7 times by Jesus in Rev 2-3. Finally, after the Apostolic Council of Jerusalem, Acts 15, the Apostles issued a statement to the churches that they do not need to follow the Torah.

Jesus is God, that is not JW theology, they believe He is Michael I don’t think they do washing of the feet The “pouring “ of the Holy Spirit would make you think it’s not a person The Holy Spirit is not directly worshipped and is not glorified like the Father and Son They don’t micro manage the Church (COG7), JW do (governing body) The paradise will be a transformation of flesh to immortal spirit (COG7) JW eat unclean food menu JW don’t observe the Sabbath COG7 baptize in the name of Jesus Christ ( JW baptism is different, something about accepting the organization as there leaders)

Hell will be extermination not eternal punishment. Not saying I myself hold those beliefs or that everyone in the group does but that’s the General Conference’s Statement of Faith as listed in the booklet “This We Believe.” You might be thinking of another group.
