A Silent Night Surprise in Times Square |

Visitors to Times Square were in for a surprise on Nov. 27 as its famous billboards became a larger-than-life tribute to the true reason for Christmas: Jesus Christ. Learn more about the Light the World movement: www.lighttheworld.org. 
 
The billboard takeover at Times Square in New York City was part of Light the World, an annual movement to bring people from all over the world together to share the light of Jesus Christ during the Christmas season. The beautiful nativity scene that emerged from the blackout was a tender reminder of the Savior’s birth and why we need His light and love in our lives. 
 
Another part of Light the World is the Giving Machines-vending machines with a twist. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints partners each year with global charities and local nonprofits to allow people to donate items to people in need, from a goat for a Syrian refugee to clean water for schools in Africa. I'll never forget the beatbox dancers performing here at Time Square during this. The moment it went dark they looked up at the screens, stopping the music, and dancing, with one of them saying, "we need to stop for Jesus". A solid reminder of Christmas, with all the hustle, that we all need to stop for a moment, and remember the true meaning of the season, to "stop for Jesus", and breath. Forever grateful for the gospel of Jesus Christ. For the birth and resurrection of the Savior of the world.

I’ve been through Times Square literally thousands of times and it has never felt like that before. It was reverent. People stopped walking and looked up, performers turned off their music. It only lasted a few moments, but it was so special.

I can’t even begin to say how incredible this video is. I wish I could have been there to see it but just watching the faces of all the people and how it bought smiles to their faces and with it glory to God in times of so much uncertainty. I pray that those who were there and everyone who sees this video will see Jesus is the Light of the world. Thank you so much to the church who did this video. It has blessed me so much and I hope it has blessed others as well.

Praise God for sending his only son into the world that we may be forgiven of our sins by accepting that Jesus is the son of God. I know how much I am loved by my Heavenly Father and I love him. This display was so beautifully done.
