For those who took hard time understanding the story, let me help you guys Dialogue 1: gaziabad se janti hu iss gamily ko badi kahaniya banati hai Interpretation : she just cooked up a story to scare the young women. When she flicked the earring the same way her husband did she meant she see it all Dialogue 2: jacki ko unse bhaut lagav ho haya tha aur vo apni hi gadi ke niche mara gaya. jacki dies, as well as bhola also dies who also got attached to virji. Interpretation : you might also have the fate as bhola and jacki if you try to get close to my husband. Witnin the story Dialogue 3: bhola to apni wife ko bhun dega Interpretation : bhola might have killed his wife and made mutton of her Dialogue 4: hum bekar cheezo ho zameen me gad date hai. By which she meant they buried bhola (useless as rather than killing virji 's brother he killed his wife) and she would also bury the young women if she tries to be useless. The lady might have also wanted to scare munna, to make him behave decently as in the end you can see the expression on munna' s face It is just my perspective of interpreting the story, only the writers would be knowing what the actual story is.

Her saying "hum Gaziabaad se hai, hame kya maloom kuch" was the indicate that she heard everything those women were talking about. Touching the earring meant she saw her husband flirting with the lady on the bar. Telling her he has issues with his stomach and all, that was just to make her stay away from her husband. She is aware of the servant's every action and knew he was listening. Hence, she told the story of Bhola. The little cut scene where her Dever enters, shows that she had sexual attraction towards him but he never actually felt the same for her. She saw her Dever and Bhola's wife so she planted the whole story. She knew her Dever was coming home in afternoon as Bhola use to go to Factory with her husband. She kept the lunchbox at home intentionally and knew Bhola would come to take it. She then, told Bhola that she is heating up the food so that he can go and see his wife and her Dever, as she was jealous of their secret relation. She then, knew this was going to happen so she woke her husband up right at the moment. Then she the way she said, "khodo ji" indicates that it wasnt her first murder. The second thing indicated the same when she said," dig it deeper or otherwise it stinks" So, in the end, she managed to make the lady realise that even though she is from a small village, she still hears and sees everything. And the threatened the servant by telling this story as if he wouldn't start behaving, hes gonna go to the same place as Bhola went. Wondering what happened to Bhola's wife? Hint:- the food was tastier and softer than ever.

Wonderfully written. A lot of the comments have rightly seen how she uses the story to threaten the young lady. But what we miss is the IRONY in the story and why its title CHUTNEY is so apt. While the husband's adultery is obvious to the viewer, the wife's Jealous nature and desire for her brother-in-law is subtly shown. Here's how - 1)she gets very jealous of bhola's wife after seeing her brotherinlaw in her room. Specially after she purposely bumps into him at 9:09 to seduce him. 2) She waits for bhola to come in the middle of work (10:33) (it is not "achanak" as she says) , does not let him pack the tiffin so that he goes to his room and finds out the truth about his wife. And knew he would kill her("ab toh bhola apni biwi ko bhoon dega") 3) She does nothing after knowing that Bhola killed his wife - because her jealousy was from his wife. 4) Seeing bhola walking to her brotherinlaw's room to kill him too - she raises alarm. And immediately, after seeing his body, runs to cover the whole crime- so nothing happens to the B-i-L. 5) Same nature in case of her husband and this young woman too. She doesn't say anything to the man, rather covers him up but threatens the woman. The wife's character is subtly shown as a possessive, jealous woman not just to her husband but ironically, her brotherinlaw too. Also, not one person in the story is honest and faithful except the dog and bhola (who were both loyal but die). Munna is shown spitting in both women's drinks - symbolically showing only he knows their true character. (look at the way the young woman walks up the stairs and looks at munna at 3:55 and 4:00 as if they both know something we don't) this is my interpretation of it - hope the makers shed some light later!

For whoever doesn't understand: In the beginning, the woman in the orange saree says, "Arey chod yaar, Ghaziabaad se jaanti hoon iss ki family ko, badi storyaan banati hai." From what I understood, this foreshadows that the woman faked the whole story, figuratively threatening to bury her in the same ground as Bhola if she doesn't stay away from her husband. At the end, she says, "Ghaziabaad mein hum saara bekaar ka cheez mitti mein daal dete hain...mitti ki postikta badhti hai na," indirectly meaning that if the woman in pink is "bekaar" (of usless or trashy character, I assume), she'll be buried to fertilize the soil for the production of her organic foods. And I think in her made up story, after Bhola finds his wife cheating, he kills and uses her for dinner for the guests that night. Also, another comment suggested that the woman warns her to stay distant from her husband as anyone attached to him ends up dead, like Bhola and the dog Jacki in her story. That makes sense as well, I guess it's all about perspective. The actual intention behind this film might only be known to the creators and those involved, so may as well have your own viewpoint.

Probable Interpretation - The whole story is made up by Vanita (Tisca Chopra) to secure her husband from the other woman. Nothing was true. The hidden message was to remind the pink lady don't mess with my husband. Clue = The woman in the orange saree in the beginning says that, "Arey chod yaar, Ghaziabaad se jaanti hu isski family ko, badi storyaan banati hai." Vanita tries to repel the woman from her hubby, by following smart ways: • By telling her husband isn't so fit as he looks and has medical problems taking so many medicines. • She tells how her husband is so generous to people sometimes giving example of ‘Bhola’ by giving him money and other things, because he made him happy with his cooking skills. And then how her husband himself buried Bhola in his compound showing he’s not emotionally attached to anybody. (In relation to her hubby had gifted the woman with earrings and he will not care about her after he uses her). • She tells how in her husband’s family everyone (hubby’s brother, uncle, aunt) is having illicit relationships. • Tells about her husband’s swinging moods, if in bad mood he’s very bad. • And in her made up story, after Bhola finds his wife cheating, he kills and uses her for dinner for the guests that night. And then her brother in law killing Bhola, and the whole family burying him signifies how cruel their whole family can be for self interest. • External marital affairs have dark endings giving example of Bhola and his wife. • At the end, she indirectly threatens her by saying, "Ghaziabaad mein hum saara bekaar ka cheez mitti mein daal dete hain...mitti ki postikta badhti hai na," indirectly meaning that the woman in pink is "bekaar" (of usless or trashy character), she'll be buried to fertilize the soil for the production of her organic foods. • Also, the story of dog ‘Jackie’ suggests that the woman warns her to stay distant from her husband because whoever's attached to him ends up dead, like Bhola and the dog Jacki in her story.

Watching the Film for the second time, after watching it just four days back. In fact, this is the fifth or sixth time I am watching this film. The story idea and screen play is Brilliant. Tisca Chopra has played her character very beautifully. Adil Hussain and Rasika Dugal also have played their roles extremely well. Also the direction by Jyoti Kapur Das has really made this film enjoyable to watch.

Watched this film today, again after 2 years, and realised I had missed the whole important point, and I think others have also missed, by reading the comments, what others have missed, I am writing those points only... Tisca is telling the truth, nothing is made up.. 1) Check at 9:00, their expressions... They are making it clear that Tisca liked her husband's brother, while he was not interested in her. 2) Now check at 10:000, the IRONY.... She saw her husband brother and servant's wife in the room... After this, she says that everyone in this house is characterless, and she herself is either masturbating or controlling her feelings for sex with her husband's brother.... If this is a made up story, then these two scenes would not have been shown in the first place.... In the starting scene, ladies are saying that she makes up stories and tell them, because her talks are too real to be true... That's why, people think that she is lying...

In short films there are n number of stories possible... that's the main idea of it. My Conclusion is... See 8:40 to 10:05 She is interested in vicky(her husband's brother) or she might had affair with vicky early, but now Vicky's affair with bhola's wife because she is more beautiful than her, so she made a plan so bhola can see intimate scene between bhola's wife and vicky. Bhola is "Sidha" guy but no one can see his wife with other man, now see 11:54 to 12:13 he never looked in his master's eyes but that day he looked and proved that he was angry and he already killed his wife and made mutton using her body parts (that's why mutton was so tasty that day, otherwise how someone can make good food in tension, also there is no appearance of his wife at end so it means she is already dead) Than bhola try to kill vicky but vicky overpowered and killed bhola so they buried dead body in backyard and this body act as a manure for "mirchi,fudina" and young lady eating chutney made of same "mirchi,fudina". By telling this all she is doing two things at the same time, one she is giving warning to the young lady to stay away from her husband otherwise same thing will happen to her as happened to bhola and second she also warn the servent "munna" to stay "sidha" But this all never happened, this is just a story made up by her to threaten both young lady and munna see proof:1 at 0:44 to 0:50 and proof:2 both never seen other characters (bhola and his wife and also vicky see 8:58 to 9:01)

And this Tisca woman is a total badass kudos to the makeup guy/gal doing an amazing job on her (those fake front teeth killed it!!). Did you guys see the toned down yet distorted look at Vanita's face (the protagonist) when she saw her husband flirt with the other lady at the drinks counter? She didn't look hurt or broken; She had "Sure come home! But remember, You asked for it" kinda look. Now coming onto Munna. He is clearly mad at Vanita or maybe the entire family. Was Bhola his brother or someone close? Vanita could have saved Bhola some pain had she given him the task of stirring the Dal fry that afternoon but she let him go in his room. She knew he'd kill his wife once he figured she was cheating on him. Did she want him to kill his wife because she herself had a thing for Vicky? She seemed attracted to the shirtless Vicky when they crossed paths outside the washroom; did you notice how she let her hair loose when he saw her? She also looked hurt in that scene right after she saw Vicky play the strip game with Bhola's wife. You think even her character could be "loose" as that of others in the family?
