chvrches sound/voice have this uplifting and energizing 80s vibe but the lyrics and inflection always have an angry 'rise up and start a revolution' power behind it. every song is always the perfect flurry to make you feel like you could topple an empire either metaphorically or literally, and you could do it while wearing heels. lmao i love it

That's the perfect description. I've always been amazed by CHVRCHES' unique sound. I think it's very easy creating those dark and nostalgic cliché synthwave sounds with 80s gear. But they managed to make their music so upbeat and modern like I've never heard anywhere before. I was surprised when I found out they used actual 80s hardware. But that's exactly what makes their sound feel so warm and organic, I believe

@Les Future Hits : They are gaining popularity in the U.S., but I wouldn't say they are mainstream and that's what I love that about them! They aren't "sellouts" and FAR from "one hit wonders." They simply do what (I hope) they love and in my opinion, thus far, have yet to disappoint. I remember in the 80s when we used to have videos that looked like this and now it's coming back. It's a beautiful thing when you see your high school years kind of being reinvented. I stated this in another one of chvrches videos and I'm going to be obnoxious here and state it again, but I met them in a little record store in Little Five Points Atlanta and I will honestly say they were gracious and amazing people. I'll never forget when Lauren asked if she should sing the cuss word in the next song because I had my little daughter with me and I said, Sing the cuss word!! and they laughed and sang the cuss word.

The first few lines of the verses sound very much like Buffy's song in the Buffy The Vampire Slayer episode "Once More With Feeling", where they're forced to sing their thoughts like they're in a musical. I love it.
