I was walking home one night after work from the subway. I only lived three blocks from the station. My low-rise building had a little courtyard with no hiding places, was well lit and had no security. The building across the road had a low shrub along the side. As I opened the outer door to my building I could hear someone walking up behind me. I thought, "That's weird. There was no one in sight before, no cars parked anywhere, nothing." I yanked the inner door to the building closed after me in the nick of time, just as an older man I'd never seen before grabbed the handle. It was locked shut and he immediately started screaming and swearing at me. He angrily stomped off at a fast pace cursing and screaming at me the whole time. Whew! My father taught me growing up to always trust my gut and told me the police would tell me the same. Thank you Dad!

Wow, reading that gave me the chills. You're probably alive now (or at least a lot less traumatized than you would have been) because you listened to your intuition. Your dad did good! I just posted under this video about Gavin de Becker's book, Survival Signals, The Gift of Fear. De Becker grew up with violence. He was tasked to the Secret Service in his late teens. Also, he was long a bodyguard for celebrities who get stalked. I found this book very useful in learning how to handle my fear in useful ways. Fair warning, it opens with a true story of a young woman who didn't get the door closed. She survived something brutal. You may find it triggering. Be well! And stay strong. I am glad you got away.
@MelodyProsserАй бұрын
@@JKB-ji6xl I read one of Gavin De Beckers books years ago. I should reread it. I'm not easily triggered. For decades I have been confronting men who i think are following me. I do it loudly and give them a chance to respond. I loudly mention they have followed me from this store to that store and now here. I will also abruptly walk in the opposite direction if after speeding up a man is speeding up after me. Often they will say "Hey I though you were going in this direction" to which i respond "Where I'm going is not your business". Both approaches have worked wonders.

Lisa, I also had a similar story when I was around 8 years old. Someone was trying to lure me and my younger cousin into their car to see their puppies. I felt sometimg wasn't right, so I yelled no, grabbed my cousin by the arm and ran. I immediately told our parents and the couple was nomwhere to be found. This wasn't the first time I listened to my gut and thankfully got myself out of what could have been a really bad situation.

Miss Lisa, I can so relate. I was 13, Halloween night split from my friends to head home. Car approached slowly, at least 3 males from what I could tell in the darkness. I froze. Then I went to the closest house and knocked, thankfully the woman let me in.

Why in the world would you put your name on a license plate or how many kids you have or where they go to school by putting those silly stickers or bumper stickers on your car. Same here! I’m still called crazy or paranoid. But unfortunately this is not only my internal intuition that’s more open than others, but I also deal with people and their mannerisms on the daily as a therapist. When a client comes in, I can almost always tell what their blind spots will be and what’s going to be challenging/not something they will easily part with within a short time. So our intuition, while not understood by others, makes us amazing people to help others. Who’s the weird one now, huh? 😂

In that scenario where you’re trying to decide whether or not to run, if embarrassment is your concern, then think of a plausible workaround. For example, look down at your watch or phone and then start running so that if it turned out to be a false alarm, you can claim you were late for something. 🤔

'Be a bit cynical' Jonna says when judging people/situations/packages, etc. I'm so cynical that when you, Lisa, put up the pictures of people and asked Jonna to deduce which one was a murderer, my first question was 'how do I know that these people are what you say they are?' You said this one's a police officer, this one's a doctor, etc. I thought immediately- is this a red herring? How do I know that you these people have these occupations? I'm surprised that Jonna did jump to the same conclusion. Maybe I'm a bit too cynical? By the way, that's another 'tell' in knowing your culture. The fact that someone is denoted by their occupation is telling of your priorities and, therefore, your culture. Some cultures don't care what your occupation is. That is way down on their list of priorities.

To allude that when a woman takes off her make-up and will appear to look boring is kind of a put down - I’m sure that many women could attest to being approached by males when they were in their sweats/casually-dressed, hair not done and no make-up. Heterosexual males will always be attracted or notice females, make up or not - it’s just unfortunate, that there are some predatory males out there.

Lisa...I've listened to a number of these videos and I'm sure your heart is in the right place...but... don't you think maybe continuing this theme that we cannot trust others, which is ultimately what this type of subject and message says, is only adding to people's paranoia? Especially young women without a lot of life experiences and/or God forbid an awful family background?? In case you haven't noticed, the media (social and otherwise) wants us to believe the world is a horrifically dangerous place full of sociopaths. And you say your beliefs and this channel was started to empower us - specifically women. I ask then (to you and the countless others here on social platforms) how on earth is turning folks into terrified agoraphobics going to "empower" anyone? 🤔 Again, I'm sure you're thinking people should be warned about the bad in the world and how to detect it so we CAN only be in healthy relationships, and thats all true; But when that is ALL we hear (or mostly) from you and countless others, it arrives at an opposite end point than intended. Hell, no one under 40 anymore isn't used to a world of fear-mongering - whether its about the government, or education, or work and career, and personal relationships. We get it already!! How about something here and there that is a little more uplifting. How about some guests who have actually risen above challenges, or who try to build self worth from within - instead of telling everyone (in not so many words) that everything outside is evil and we have to be afraid our whole lives? Personal views and tools and attitude are paramount to happiness and feeling in control, and we can only control ourselves.
@HypatiaReignsАй бұрын
@npkrn6764 “Especially young women without a lot of life experiences…” are EXACTLY the demographic that should be “paranoid”. Because it’s not paranoia, it’s the realization of how just how hazardous, violent and cruel males* are. And “continuing this theme that we cannot trust others” is Lisa trying to save women’s lives. As for the girls/women with an “awful family background”, why should they trust anyone else? If their own families were that awful, do you think Russian roulette with strangers would serve them better?

How you respond to this is really as you say, your thing. Only you can control how you perceive this. Others will watch this and think it's very useful information and helpful and not find it intimidating or induce paranoia. That's your response and only you are in control of your response. Maybe you should also check your data algorithms for what you're offered to watch, since it seems you watch all the same kind. There are plenty out there offering another way of viewing things. Watch those if this induce paranoia in you.

What you see says more about you and the glasses you see the World through than it does about the host.

As an older woman, I can tell you that you become invisible.🫥

It is true. But not to all. Some will target you even at 80 years old. In my neighbourhood in Europe, a 83 year old woman was assaulted in her appartement, by a bulglar and raped, beaten up. The guy was in his 20's. My mother was 53 and raped by a 23-ish man in the public stairs 1 day in her appartment building in Spain. I was 48 years old, biking and allmost abducted by a man in a white van.

An 83 woman was beaten, r@ped and beaten up in her appartment, by an intruder, who was not older than 35 years old. Belgium. My mother was r@ped at 54 years old. The man was 20- ish. At public stairway in her appartment blok in Spain. I was 48 years old almost abducted by a man around his 30's in a white van. Belgium. Being older does not mean you are safe.

Not necessarily. ONLY if you want to be. Otherwise, the adulation never ends by young or older Men.
