Hi mam, Thankyou for these videos. Please tell me How does chlorine have +4 oxidation in Q2 d (ii). Isn't it supposed to be +2 because we ignore mole number in oxidation state.

I dont know if it still helps but; Yes we ignore the mole no but look at the compound: Cl O2 So O has charge of 2- but there are two O so we do 2x2= -4 charge and to make oxidiation of chlorine we write +4 charge

Since both the reagents are strongly oxidising reagents, we may use any. However, we usually discuss dichromate with dilute acid in case of oxidation of primary alcohol as it oxidises the group in a 2 step process first converting it into aldehyde and then a carboxylic acid whereas KMnO4- would directly oxidise the primary alcohol to its corresponding carboxylic acid. Hope it is clear to you now.
