When you get into cigars, you'll get all kinds of advice about what to do with your stash after you buy. Some will tell you to rest the cigars for a period of a few days, others say it should be weeks. And still others will just light up right away. In this video, Terence Rilley from Aganorsa Leaf explains how they validate cigars when they get them. He'll help you get more out of your collection be explaining the validation process that Aganorsa uses to check and recheck their cigars before they ever end up on the shelves of your local cigar shop. Only been smoking about 9 months. A friend of mine got me into it and it just took off for me. Apparently I have a good palate to taste certain notes in the cigar. I will say I did not know that when I order a cigar online that I need to let it rest several days before I smoke one. I love watching you videos it gives me a lot of clarity. It’s like I can’t get enough about cigars😊

On new shipment, I always check the cigars, then go right to the humidor for 3-7 days before smoking. Unless I go to a brick and mortar that I know has a good humidor, I always wait a few days to smoke them. Padron, Perdomo, Arturo Fuente, and Ashton, have excellent QC on their brands. I have yet to have a bad Padron or Perdomo cigar.

Great video Tim! I love aganorsa leaf CT Validation. Fantastic smoke. My ritual for new cigars is to take them out of the plastic sleeve check their humidity with cigarmedics on day one to get an idea where they are. Then I’ll bath them in the Tupperdore at 65RH (Boveda) for 2 weeks, making sure to switch them around on day 7. After that I’ll check their humidity again and depending on where they are start putting them back in their sleeves and putting them into my main humidor

I tend to order online more than I will go get them from brick and mortar shops. I usually will put them all in the humidor for a at least a week but I always designate 1 to tey after a couple of days and let the rest sit for a bit. If i go to brick and mortar I tend to buy 2 or 3 different ones and I'll smoke them pretty much same day if I can. Doing this allows me to find new cigars and I can jusge them right away to know whether or not i want to order more. It's safer this way if I don't like it, I don't have a box of 20 I don't want or cant return.

I am fortunate to live near a famous on-line supplier that has brick and mortar store co-located with retail. Their retail store has a great walk in humidor isolated from the rest of the facility. Much different than another major big name retailer not far away where all sticks are on the retail floor with no isolation from the front door. I've no connection to either. Hint both are located in eastern PA not far off I78 not far from NJ boarder. My experience with on-line shopping at the famous outfit, they deliver sticks swiftly in ready to smoke condition.

i never smoke them ROTT but i have a stupid amount of cigars, im lucky if i get to a cigar within a couple years. i feel like as a buyer i want to find a box with cosmetic defects, makes them more collectable

My ritual is basic, they come out of the box into large humidor set at 65/70 for 2-4 weeks depending on the cigar. Example something strong and robust like a Liga I’ll let rest for two weeks. However a box of StillWells I’ll rest for a month because of the pipe tobacco filler. And each week I’ll pick out my sticks for the next week and move them to a desktop humidor set at 69/70. Than it’s the best part cut and light.

If they are shipped to me, I visually inspect and rest for 2 weeks. My brick and morter I will rest for 48hrs, unless there was a specific one I was looking to smoke that day. Still visually inspect and light squeezing to check existing humidity level.

I don’t usually get to smoke the cigars i buy right away. If im lucky, 1 cigar a week. But usually they go into a quarantine tuperdore for a week, then into my regular humidor.

My ritual is I have a small humidor I keep them in for a week then they go in general population after that once their in the big humidor for 3 days their fair game.

As I live in Bermuda, which increases travel time tremendously, I let my cigars sit for at least a month. The length of time is also dependent on the season. 🇧🇲

Man, I feel kinda dumb after listening to you guys and reading the comments! I but my cigars through a local cigar distributor online. They deliver the stix, I put them in my humidor at ~63/65 and smoke two or three in one week. The rest go as time permits me to enjoy them. 😬

Everything is left in travel bags for a week with the 69% packs. Then placed in humidor and dropped to 63-65%. I’ll smoke one a week later if I just can’t wait if I bought a box or 5er. But, I have enough inventory that I can wait a couple to several months before smoking something new to the humidor.

I’m a noob so please be kind…why does a black ash concern you? I let my cigars rest a minimum of 2 weeks because I had an issue, a couple times actually, that the cigar didn’t smoke well because the RH was too high. An old timer told me to rest them “properly “ to avoid that problem. Not scientific but the idea is easily understood.

I check the box for any damage,open box and then look at the presentation,then i inspect every stick and finally they go in the humidor for 3-4 weeks before smoking.

Cigars arrive, and the first thing I do is open the box up, grab a cigar and light it up while I validate the rest of my shipment.

I'm gonna catch some hell with this. I'm 44 and after a lifetime of being a non-smoker I have just discovered cigars and how delicious and relaxing they can be...now, I completely understand this is not "healthy" that being said don't plan on stopping. Now my question is...am I smoking too fast? Is the cigar getting too hot to smoke. Will this burn your mouth/throat?

You should puff often enough to keep the cigar lit but not so often it heats up and becomes hot to the touch. Perhaps 1 or two times per minute

I use my Cigarmedics HumidiMeter to check the humidity and go from there. If it’s in the ballpark, I’ll smoke it anytime

Whenever I get a box of cigars I always put it in my cedar chest that's been converted to a humidor. Anytime I order 5 or 10 packs one goes in there as well they get split up between the cedar chest and my aging humidor and daily used humidor
