Been smoking cigars since 1976 from all over the world. Cubans back in the 1970s and 80s Cubans were much stronger than after 1991. Brand for brand they got much milder. Also by 1995 construction went way down for many brands, and by 2005 you were lucky to get 50% decent draw per box. Also they shorten aging time. Many Cuban cigars taste like they have Nicaraguan blended in.

I'm an American who has been traveling to Cuba since I spent a semester there in 2003. My good friend, a roller in Havana, left in 2019. I think he said it best when it came to the current state of the tobacco industry in Cuba : "It was to be expected. With the way things are, little by little, we continue to lose the few riches we have left."

I am also almost 99% sure that the last Short Churchill that I smoke was wrapped with connecticut wrapper and the cigar was one of the best and complex cigars that I ever smoked, so I also believe that they buy wrapper leaf

very interesting talk! Yes you are 100% right,I had a box of siglo 4s from 07 I think, they were great, bold and tasty, and lately I had one from recent years(20?),that was a GREAT dissapointment, different blend ,too mild and definetely another cigar, something is going wrong in Cuba for sure

Hey guys, welcome back and it's interesting that you guys discuss this, as a few smokey brothers and I were discussing this same thing on a zoom video herf and I am of the mind there are a lot factors involved with Cuba's gradual decline with their cigars in recent years.

I am so sopriced because just before the price hike I bought full box of Trinidad Vigia and put them to age a little. But I started to smoke them and there is nothing remotely like Trinidad should taste? They are tasteless, and I know that when good they are one of the best cigars I have ever smoked. Cheers guys good to be back

The Novedoso is like a longer version of the Cohiba Robusto. Excellent cigar. I have gotten Sig 3's 4's 5's and 6's this year as well. Also Esplendidos and Lanceros.

He's completely spot on about the ridiculous guages now. I don't need 54s that take an age to smoke. The low 40s are good, and I find myself smoking a lot more puritos and shorts now

I know this was a year ago but here in Canada, more specifically Ontario, Cubans are become more scarce. Maybe a 3 year pause could help but the risk is, folk would turn to new world and then those customers will be lost. It would be a massive gamble. I personally feel Cuba are prioritizing China given they own a large share and need to meet their demands before the rest of us get our scraps. Could be totally wrong but that’s my guess.

I agree with you Usman, I tried the Línea de oro Nobles and it was not that great. I would prefer the Wide Churchills over the Linea de Oro.

I just came back from Varadero, Cuba, and visited 4 cigar shops (including 2 LCDH stores). 90% of their inventory is Cohiba and Trinidad and everything else is pretty much out of stock. It's almost as if they are prioritizing the tobacco for these two brands or people don't want to pay the crazy prices. I'm planning on going back next year so I hope they start producing more of the other popular brands soon. Also, it's not only tobacco the problem. They also have coffee and rum shortages.

Oo thats interesting. So Cohiba and Trinidad may not be selling as much.

True: Other countries are beating the Cubans in the cigar race...But...What would help Cuba in EVERY aspect is trade and modern agriculture techniques with the USA. I live in a very safe area in Oklahoma but one issue perplexes me. I can purchase heroin, crack, fentanyl and a host of illegal narcotics....but try to purchase an authentic Cuban cigar hand rolled or machine made is all but IMPOSSIBLE!!! No...I do not advocate drug use...We have open trade with Vietnam...Why not Cuba? Yes I know property and business rights need to be settled for the people who fled Cuba. Let's start now and help Cuba with many issues. Glad to see you back making videos.

Industrialized agriculture from USA gonna help Cuba😂 “help” from you guys basically means exporting issues
You asked why are they releasing new lines instead of using the tobacco toward the regular lines. Most likely, for the same amount of tobacco they can make twice the money ? Bigger prices on LE and new prestigious lines. That would be my guess.

You dont really see the double coronas much in the last couple of years. The Romeo y Julieta Churchills are scarce. I also like the Ramon Allones Gigantes but I have not seen any around in a while

I got boxes of cubans that need age. Epi#2's, por larranga p. coronas, Trinidad shorts, Ramon allones half's, monte half's, ect. In the mean time Liga #9's and my father Fonsecas fit the bill. But most importantly, Herrera Estali Habano short corona's are my cuban non Cubans... I wish I could send some but I need them😅. Hopefully this helps fill that need... Cheers.

23:40 This is something I also heard inside the factory in Cuba. The rollers roll the cigars and they don't know what the brand is, and they put the bands based on the The color and softness of the wrapper😂

I hear you making comparison of cuban versus non cuban cigars. The non cubans always taste the same. but the Cubans taste different. The reason for this is the non Cubans dont really evolve over time like Cubans do. So they always taste the same. The Partagas P2 that you remember smoking. How much age did it have when you smoked it? How much age did the newer ones have when you tried it? The point is a 5 yr old P2 will taste different than a 2 year old one. I rarely smoke Cubans with less than 5 years of age on them. Right now I am smoking mostly 16's 17's and 18's. All are smoking very well.
