"Majulah Singapura" - In Memory of Mr. Lee Kuan Yew

Although I'm thousands of miles away from home, I can feel the grief and outpouring of emotion of my home country from the passing of our beloved former Minister Mentor Mr. Lee Kuan Yew.
Growing up in Singapore, I was constantly reminded by my parents and grandparents how incredible he was and how much our country owes to him. I was always aware of how lucky I was to have grown up in such a beautiful, safe, multicultural and progressive country.
I read that before he passed he was worried that the people of Singapore were united enough - if only he could see how everyone stood in solidarity through the rain and crowds - one people, one nation ready to build on his legacy.
I hope this this version of our national anthem can be a small token of my family's gratitude. A huge thank you to Uncle Adam for helping with the beautiful arrangement and my sister Trina for helping to film!
No matter where I am in the world, Singapore will always be home. Majulah Singapura!

Bukittinggi is in Sumatra, the traditional homeland of the Malay peoples. Almost all of the Malay kingdoms of Sumatra were overthrown in the Revolusi Sosial in 1945 - 46 with only the Malay kingdoms in the Malay peninsular and Brunei surviving to the present. So technically, Zubir Said, would be a Sumatran Minangkabau Malay as Indonesia was not yet in existence as a sovereign political entity in 1928 when he first went over to Singapore for his kopi susu.

Chris Henniker Women are treated very well in Singapore. I haven't seen any horrible discrimination against women here and men usually don't harass you. You do get the occasional wolf-call or a man being too drunk, but I have never had any horrible experiences. :)
