It's not just local taxation, there are other aspects as well like local corporate law and other regulatory requirements and also local UK GAAP being taught for accounting , UK corporate governance code and the list can go on etc. Compare the course material and you will understand how ICAEW is customized to meet the requirements specific to UK.

Actually you can do both. You only need to give one paper to become CIMA. Once you complete your 5 years experience you can apply for ACCA as you will get 9 exemptions.
