Best video I've ever seen. I'm still currently registered in 3 Medical Imaging disciplines (MRI, CT Scan, X-Ray) though I retired recently. I also had experience doing 'carotid duplex/doppler ultrasound' scans, PET and arteriograms a couple decades ago. This is cutting edge of the cuting edge information. Kudos to Drs Brewer and Eldridge for sharing this salient information. As in anything else in life from the cashier you get in the grocery store, to the mechanic that actually fixes your car, it matters WHO you get to service your needs in life. Buyer beware.

Very much appreciate this collaboration with Todd Eldridge explaining the CIMT and the standardization of this test for relevance and predictability of future events. The honesty and empathy for the practitioners caught up in our insurance directed system comes through like a soul cleansing. This inspirational message should be heard by all and could be the basis for a real medical revolution. As a 75 yr old Dental Lab Technician, I have often said, “Why do we have to make ourselves sick to make others well?” Let’s trumpet this message and bring some justifiable change to an honorable vocation . Charles Markland, Jacksonville,FL with a CAC of 798 and very thankful for both of you sincere gentlemen.

Excellent video & information by both of you docs. However, I do have a few questions: 1. Is the CIMT a general "screening test"? If so, what age group would best benefit? 2. How does the score on the CIMT test relate to plaquing in the coronary arteries, or does it? 3. For someone like myself, who has already had an MI due to blockage, what would be the benefit of having this test given that I am taking a Statin & being followed by my Cardiologist? 4. If the CIMT does indicate a possible cardiac event, what would be the best approach regarding pervention? On a side note, I doubt that my Cardiologist, although he is associated with Yale, would recommend this test or even knows about it. However, I will ask him about it on my next visit. Thanks for all you do Dr. Brewer............
@PrevMedHealth5 жыл бұрын
We do use it for screening, depending upon risk factors (like age, diabetes, inflammatory disease, etc. ). And we do use it for follow up- usually annually. Your Yale doc is likely to say the problem is the repeatability of the test. I’m a Hopkins doc & have reviewed it for this. I do not recommend most CIMT providers in the country for this reason. There are, however, a few that are great at this. I trust them with my patients, my family & my health. Also, even the AHA has said it’s a good test. It’s far better than the typical go-to treadmill test.

@@PrevMedHealth Thanks for the reply Doc! BTW, is there a correlation between what the CMIT shows in the carotid arterial wall & what is happening in the coronary arteries? Can there be significant occlusion/plaquing in the carotids & relatively little plaquing in the coronary arteries? Just curious..................

Yes. It happens. But less than 2% of the time.

Dr, do you find CIMT superior to CPET for finding vascular issues such as plaque? I've had several CPET but no one in my state seems to be doing CIMT. Ive ask and they always think I'm talking about calcium score testing. Great informative video BTW!

Todd you did my CIMT in La jolla last year! ;) It was very nice to meet you. Question. How often do you recommend getting this done? My report was "ok" ... showed arterial age of 53 at age 55. I want to improve that.

Good to hear. Most of us recommend an annual CIMT cadence.

Dr Brewer. Thank you for a hosting a very informative video. One question, John recently described his recent CIMT test and I thought he said that the results distinguish the different types of plaque, calcified, soft and a mix of both. When Todd showed the form he uses, I didn't see that breakout. Can you clarify this?
@PrevMedHealth5 жыл бұрын
The demonstration of soft plaque is a key advantage of CIMT. CAC shows only calcium.
@joby64625 жыл бұрын
I guess I wasn't clear. I wasn't asking about the CAC. On Todd's CIMT report sample, I didn't see where type of plaque is broken out by type of plaque, specifically, I thought the report would say some about soft plaque anount. Am I misunderstanding this point? Thx again.

@@jameskantor0459 Its an honourable reply from you sir and I really appreciate it.Sad to confess I am a prediabetec too.Currently working on anti inflammatory diet plan,putting my fingers crossed believing this might help regain back my carotid artery to normal range.
@jameskantor04595 жыл бұрын
@Adam Chandra , if you are prediabetic, may want to consider as early stage diabetic and discuss with your doctor to start on Metformin to bring your sugar down, until you A1C is under 5.6%. I have found metformin and low carb diet 100 gm or less. I have not been able to get under 70 gram. I do not eat bread or grain or add sugar, but I do enjoy my vegetables and a fruit a day. I was AIC of 7.5%, Feb 2018, in Aug 2019 I is was 5.4%. I am taking Metformin and Ozempic. I am considered a controlled diabetic. I was prediabetic for two years, I would have asked for medication if I understood. Get you blood sugar under control. Do you have a blood meter to see what you sugar is before and after a meal. I find that very helpful. A good KZbin channel is “beat diabetes” to understand how and why to test you sugar. Blood pressure, blood sugar, and a BMI of overweight or obese is related . Let me know.
