Mini are going to be in trouble because of the crazy high prices they are charging for Chinese made EVs. At my local dealer they had loads of new EVs for sale with the the little 2 door one with sticker prices of £40k and as high as £55k for the ugly as hell new Clubman. Not surprisingly no customers in sight at all.

An Excellent Review but I think this car could also worry Citroen too (as well as Mini). The cheapest Renault 5 is £2000 more than the cheapest Citroen e3, and in spite of the Citroen e3 having more space, it already looks so outdated compared to the 5. It will be interesting to see if Renault will take significant sales from both Mini and Citroen.

Thank you! ☺️ Ah yes, the prices aren't too far apart between the R5 and Citroen E-C3 so it comes down to what you prioritise: Style (R5) or comfort (E-C3) /Jamil

Ben can I ask about the ambient lighting can it be set to any of the 64 colours on personal or defaults to red for sports mode & green for eco etc...only problem I see is the Top spec iconic has only yellow seats interior which is fine for pop yellow colour on the outside of car but any other colour green dark blue black and white it still comes with yellow interior for top spec the lower spec has blue denim like jean material which is fine but would have been nice to spec different colour interior on top spec not just the yellow but great little car the Alpine type 5 I think has the same electric motor in the meganne 220bhp but modified 270bhp also Roland Garos tennis spec R5 EV coming out soon as well best choice is middle spec iconic in dark blue with the blue denim interior think 27k not bad price for fun funky five

Hey! You can set the ambient lighting to any of the colours on the wheel - it's really intuitive and looks great. Our favourite is purple, obvs! As for the rest of the interior, it's really customisable. We can't wait for the online configurator to come out so we can have a proper play around. What spec would you go for? /Ben

Just a pity that Renault are not offering the 180 bhp motor from the Alpine A290 in the new 5. That would allow it to complete with the Mini E without all the hot hatch addendums of the Alpine which many feel is a little shouty.
@cinch2 сағат бұрын
Can't have it all I guess. But the A290 isn't a bad looking thing at all. Those rally lamps are a beaut /Jamil

Fantastic car!!!!! Shame it isn’t a hybrid
@cinch2 күн бұрын
Renault already make a fantastic compact hybrid with the Clio (we reviewed it here kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWnQhIdsg9-sacU) Who knows, some EV only cars are being reconsidered to squeeze in a hybrid powertrain by manufacturers so it could be a possibility that the Renault 5 follows suit. Wouldn't count on it though /Jamil
@Percy-c5v2 күн бұрын
They won’t make a Renault 5 hybrid, it’s built on a dedicated EV platform and Renault are gradually phasing out hybrids. They’re not so popular here in Europe, considered dinosaurs. I expect the UK will be driving around in them for some time though so you might find some good second hand bargains. (I ordered my Renault 5 yesterday. Over 100,000 orders so far and a minimum 5 month waiting list (I’m in France).

Good it isn't hybrid. Plug in hybrid people take up chargers unnecessarily because they bought wrong kind of car for themselves and other types of hybrids you get worst of both worlds. All electric is the way to go. That or get a petrol car.
@TheAllMightyGodofCodКүн бұрын
@@MartinzW not only you want to dictate what kind of car others drive as you also want to decide who can and can't use chargers... How nice of you! And let's completely ignore that different people have different needs and different use cases and that for each use case, you have a specific type of motorisation that works the best. 🤦

Charging in Nice. What a load of old tosh. Nice has probably got more chargers than most in Europe. Where I live (in Nice), I can’t move for chargers. They’re all around me!

Lucky you. I’m in Bristol & it’s the opposite. Utter charging desert.

@@th42 I wouldn’t get too despondent. The UK has always been slow on the uptake for new things. In some respects it’s good, fools rush in and all that, sadly on this occasion it’s working against it. The penny will drop once they’re forced to watch ICE walking out of the back door. They’ll get there in the end.

Near the airport, the chargers we found were all part of underground car parks which required an additional fee to use. And further afield we couldn't see any chargers at any petrol stations either /Jamil

@@cinch If you go into central Nice there are loads. I live near the Gare Riquier, I’ve got 4 sets of charging stations near to me. Two of which are less than a minute from me (2x 4 22kw charging points on each one) and another 2x4 22Kw less than 5 minutes from me). The prise de NICE is MASSIVE (City of Nice charging points). One of the best in Europe. Near the airport is not a good example. Mostly hotels and car parks (which have their own charging points. Not many Folk live around there. Having said that there’s a Tesla super charger station just North of there and loads of charging stations in West Nice which is the nearest your’e going to get to near the airport where folk have residences (Which is the opposite end of Nice to me)

@@christaylor5300 You might be surprised. I’ve always had Audis, the R5 is a very high spec high quality car. It’s really very different from anything else they’ve made. (The doors sound just great-try lifting the boot of the R5 if you’re looking for rock solid). It took me a while to start thinking of VW and Audi EV’s as poorer quality but once I did it became much clearer. Hyundai EV’s another great example. Who would have EVER associated Hyundai with high quality, but their EV’s are, way way ahead of VW. Takes a bit of getting your head around but once you do it starts to make sense. Ps. I’ve just ordered an R5
