BMW calling this a Mini is a disgrace of the corporate world. Progress?? If costing people off the roads s your mission....yes. This car has never been more than a terrible facsimile.
@TassieLorenzo3 ай бұрын
Fair. Of course it would have been better if Honda (or someone else) had bought Austin Rover (and even brought Jaguar back into the fold from Ford too) instead of British Aerospace and then BMW and then SAIC and others. *BUT* As long as the factory still exists and keeps people in work, that's what matters, no? The Longbridge plant might be gone and the Honda Swindon plant is now gone, but it's good that at least *some* British Leyland factories are still going, surely (be it MINI Oxford or Jaguar Land Rover Solihull & Wolverhampton and some of the supply chain factories)? 🙂 If Honda owned MINI, then perhaps MINI could be a Kei car based on the Honda N-One similar to the cutesy Suzuki Lapin. But would people actually buy a 660cc or 1000cc pint-sized Mini Cooper in this day and age? I'm not sure. There isn't viewed to be a market for other Kei cars in the UK and they don't meet UK crash or emissions regulations unfortunately. The increase in size of the R53 MINI was partly due to meeting crash regulations and adding crumple zones, though further size increases since then are indeed unfortunate.

@WetPig I get what u are saying, but some folks are happy to spend 42k on a small luxury car with all the bells and whistles. Look how successful the original BMW 1 series, the Audi A1 and the 2nd Gen Mini were. There is a market for what people perceive to be luxury small cars. Sadly all of them got bigger and bigger and are pretty much the size of 1 or 2 classes above now. Some people don't have kids or have a need for bigger cars, but like to have nice things. Smaller might even be more expensive because you must package it better for serviceability, crash safety and so on. went to check one out yesterday, it'a a good little car. Lots of tech that we didn't expect so some decent bmw tech. Love the sounds. It does search for traction if you just gun it, even in the dry. We used to own an I3 which felts similar. Petrol Mini =£23K, Electric Small Battery Mini = £30K, Big Battery Full Spec Mini = £42K.
@1Bob.Sacamano3 ай бұрын
If you roughly calculate how much money you will spend on petrol every year and how long you intend to keep the car, the petrol Mini may work out to be cheaper. Example: if we spend £1,200 yearly and intend to keep the car for 7 years = £8,400 then if you put that on top of the 23k petrol model it becomes 31.4k which can get you a top spec model and still be cheaper than the electric model. There are also costs of servicing and MOTs but those can be netted off with the cost of electricity which is probably even higher.

I really like how this new Mini looks, but having a JCW appearance pack that looks almost exactly like a full fat JCW package on a non JCW model is a crime
@jinx200013 ай бұрын
I dont know why they would put the works name on the car when its lacking performance compared to pretty average electric cars today. I dont think putting the name on an electric car is the problem because its proven more often than not today that EV's can be bat shit crazy quick with sporty handling (ioniq 5 N for example), the problem is its no quicker than a JCW mini from 2008 and in 2008 that performance was impressive but you can get electric cars today more competitive on price, far more practical and even much heavier smashing this thing. It should have been dual motor or rear wheel drive at least. I quite like the look of the new renault 5 and im hoping when they inevitably do a hot version they just go nuts with it like hyundai do these days with their N cars, make it a modern day sleeper on the road and capture what made the old 5 turbo cool for its time.
@olliewebbuk3 ай бұрын
This isn't the JCW, it's the bodykit that comes on the Sport trim. Been the same for a while now, you could have the F56 or F55 in Cooper (not S) trim with the JCW bodykit, badges, wheels, and seats. No different to M-Sport on a BMW. The real JCW electric will be out later.
@jinx200013 ай бұрын
@@olliewebbuk ahh i see, i was not aware you could get a JCW bodykit as an option... that makes it even worse to be honest lol. The M sport example i guess is a good one, but... M sport is different from M cars as far as model differentiation goes i believe? If you go to BMW today you can buy an M-sport model but it comes below the M cars. JCW was always the hotter version of the cooper S. To be able to buy a mini now that is effectively a fake JCW is nasty and tarnishes what JCW was all about... would be like buying a BMW 2 series and being able to have it specced from factory with M badges, thats trash. But i get what you are saying, just hate that.

I think thats a bit of a large claim. There have been quite a few unfortunate uses of names over the years. This is in essence still a small (still small compared to other things on the road - check out the new M5 for instance) 4 seater where things like the Mustang went from being a cool coupe to an electric suv. Other "retro" designs have also been largely just remodelled versions of other cars so the Fiat 500 was largely just a rebodied Panda, the VW Beetle was a Golf in a frock and so on. For all their faults Mini are still one of the better brands so far as sticking to their origins. Remember even Porsche and Ferrari now make suv's.

The circular diplay look so cool! A real conversation starter. Too bad car manufacturers put such laggy bloated software on very underpowered hardware in the infotainment systems. You'd think that more premium cars would have even high refresh screens by now. Especially Mercedes, with a 90-120Hz panel for smooth animations.
@Babel70783 ай бұрын
Putting almost all controls and information on the screen means that when that screen fails you loose everything, and I guess it will cost hugely. Another point is safety with touch screens. I think the next NCAP tests will not granted cars with touch screens with fife stars. I have F56 1.5 lit petrol engine with manual gearshift, and I love it. It looks that the materials used in older models are much better than this.
