My hot take is that CB isn’t a big need. We have DJ, Dax, CTB, and Fig. I think we need to let them develop and give coach Golden a chance to mold them. I wouldn’t mind drafting one, I feel like if we fix the pass rush the coverage will automatically improve.

I just don't see good things happening from CTB or Dax, maybe have them split some time at saftey. But CB is still an issue, even going back to the 2023 season. I do agree with the pass rush, but we need more athleticism to cover receivers.

The needs of this team are not restricted to just DE, CB, S, and OG. The issue is that during Free Agency the Bengals lose TWO defensive starters and 2025 will be no different. The Bengals will lose both BJ Hill and Mike Hilton before the "Golden Era" starts due to Free Agency and for cap reasons Hubbard, Stone and Rankins, so the only remaining SB56 starters on defense will be Hendrickson, Pratt and Wilson. So, the defensive needs far exceed a one offseason fix. Bengals need two OGs via Free Agency because they have proven year after year they cannot draft them. The draft typically provides 2-3 starters and 100% of those starters MUST be on defense. So, the only way to even be competitive in 2025 is to SIGN A TON OF FREE AGENTS.

Gotta ignore the A list free agents. We have never signed any before our front office always looks at B & C listers that can outplay their contracts. So Trey Smith, Josh Sweat, and Jevon Holland are off the board.

Orlando Brown Jr and DJ Reader we're both top level free agents. Bengals made Reader the highest paid NT in the NFL when they signed him. Also Trey Hendrickson was right on the line and got paid like it. Now if we're talking about the rare superstar that makes it to free agency like Jessie Bates or Tee Higgins, no we won't ever go after them. Usually you gotta trade for those guys and we don't do that either

@ Okay yes DJ Reader was the biggest FA we ever signed. OBJ at the time was looking for a Trent Williams contract ($23M/yr) but signed with us for ($16M/yr) after no one wanted him for that price. Hendrickson was also considered a risky signing at the time ($15M/yr for a guy that was the 3rd edge rusher) although he was my #1 guy that offseason. But looking at the market then the highest paid edge rusher was making $27M/yr. My point is the bengals won’t sign the best players at their position bc they don’t want to reset the market for those guys. DJ Reader was an exception bc he’s a NT and only required $13M/yr. They like to find cheaper guys that will outplay their contracts like I said. Hendrickson, OBJ, Gesicki, Hurst, Hilton, Awuzie, Ogunjobi, Bell (the first time), and Perine are all examples of those type of guys that ended up hitting.

I’ll say it, I honestly think we can get chase young for a decent price on a multi year contract. Miles Murphy is a bust unless he pulls a miracle and balls out this year. Chase is 25 struggling with questionable coordinators. I just got a feeling he’s going to the afc north next season and I want it to be us. But we probs sign Odeyingbo like we signed moss instead of making a push for Henry.
