Because of RWBY’s incompetence, thousands would be stuck in the middle of Vacuo’s desert, nearly none of which were trained huntsmen or even soldiers for that matter. If it weren’t for Winter being there, they most likely ALL would’ve died. Especially since Vacuo is only known to welcome those who are strong enough to survive its territory. Secondly, James was completely justified. Him launching Atlas would’ve at least saved one of the most technologically advanced cities in the world, with them still having the staff and the lamp. Now Salem has them, literally 50% of what she needs, and nearly no Headmasters to stand in her way now.

ATLAS NEEDED MANTLE FOR THE WORKERS AND DUST MINES!!!! MANTLE NEEDED ATLAS FOR THEIR SOILDERS AND TECH EQUIPMENT!!! ABANDONING ONE HALF SO THE OTHER HALF CAN LIVE ONLY FOR A SHORT WHILE WITH LIMITED RESOURCES IS A DEATH FLAG WAITING TO HAPPEN! Plus on a moral scale abandoning Mantle would be the ULTIMATE BETRAYAL ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE SWORN TO PROTECT THEM!!! BUT EVERYONE ESPECIALLY IRONWOOD WAS MY WAY OR THE HIGHWAY! I’m so sad the bromance of Ironwood and Qrow is gone. Edit: Also ironwood affected Penny using SALEM’S helper Watts…(literally was forced to get rid of Penny plot armor) Another error was Blake and Yang decided that their opinions more important than anyone else’s and told Robin about Ironwoods original plan like their wasn’t a reason for the secrecy to begin with!!!! Hello idiots you don’t know if the people she was connected to were spies for Salem. Next the plan could have worked If Penny went through the portal like should have( understandable that she didn’t due to her friends being in danger) and also it was actually JAUNES TEAM WHO LOST THE LAMP TO NEO!!! WHICH LATER CINDER USED TO FOIL THEIR PLANS!!! Also we don’t know how close of far Vacuo is from Winter and the rest of teams they did all they could everyone including Ironwood but everyone let their fear and doubt get the better of them and that’s how Cinder and Salem won

@@Pheonixfirestar Well said. I am likewise extremely tired of Ruby getting all the hate. Ruby is not excused from responsibility for the events in Volumes 7-8 but it CERTAINLY does not rest on her alone. And in the end, Ironwood was the one least willing to find common ground. His original plan for Amity was a good one (case in point: Ruby more or less got it done in 8, and as we saw in 9's finale, it DID bring what was left of the Kingdoms together), and he has always intended to protect humanity, but his inflexibility made him easy for Salem and Cinder to manipulate, once the pressure started to pile on from every side. Ruby, Weiss, Blake and Yang all share some responsibility, but they weren't being manipulative for their own ends. They were always focusing on something more than themselves, and had the flexibility to change their mindset when it mattered. James did not. I pitied him and found his tragic character arc fascinating, but he made the wrong choice in the end. Saving a fragment of the wealthiest and most elitist of humanity at the expense of everyone else is NOT salvation or victory. As a side note though, I'd be interested to learn whether Ironwood suffered from PTSD from his previous battles, given how much of his body was ALREADY replaced with machinery. The way he was experiencing flashbacks of Salem and Cinder's black queen whenever he seemed on the verge of making an impulsive decision in the face of pressure during Volume 7 (which was for me, hands down, the best volume so far), I'd be curious how that might have affected his thinking. We saw how much Ruby was hurting in Volume 9; Ironwood might have made different decisions if he'd been receiving treatment for his mental health, which was clearly not in a good place. I'm also glad that Ironwood was not forgotten in Volume 9. Like Ruby, he was in a position of leadership, and had to deal with its' according pressures. In the end, it was too much for him. But he was a good man originally, and clearly a much better one than that slimeball Lionheart. Clearly, whatever Ruby's attitude toward Ironwood, she regretted his downfall and empathized with the pressures put on him.

I can't wait for volume 9 because we're going to see back and forth with rwby group , ozpin's group, and Salem's group. Cinder is going to have a rude awakening about her lying to Salem about Ruby. I'm pretty sure Salem knows because when she went down in the spring maiden vault and didn't regroup back to Salem's castle and said Cinder still alive Wattson said how did you know and when she disobey Salem's orders to stay put not go after the winter maiden she got punished for that. Not to mention the grimm arm is already reaching up to her upper arm and it continued spreading on her right side. You got to remember it was either Ozpin or Qrow saying back then the grimm were mindlessly attacking but over the years someone was guiding them. In V9 its going to be a mental journey for everyone including Ruby she's the one with the whole emotional baggage just saying. Everyone has changed except Ruby and her friends evolved from moving passed their issues. Blake finally stopped running away, Wiess stood up against her father, Yang finally got past her trauma and started relying on her family, Rin finally admitted about his feelings, Nora started speaking up more, Juane started to get over Pyhrras death and got some closure, Winter started to think for herself and what's best course of action , and Oscar started separate himself from Ozpin. Out everyone Ruby hasn't evolved just saying.
