Loved this. I had the pleasure of seeing her play with Larry Coryell many years ago. The late Joe Beck told a Miles story that's one of my favorites. Joe was the 1st guitar player Miles invited to join him when he started experimenting with rock motifs back around 1966-67. It seems Miles showed up in the studio one day wearing a particularly beautiful sweater, which Joe complimented him on, making a crack to the effect that Miles had better keep it on, else he (Beck) would steal it. Later that same week Beck had to undergo minor eye surgery, and when he came to in his hospital bed, there was something on his chest. It was the sweater, neatly folded, with a note attached: "It's yours." Prince of Darkness my ass....

This is a charming story. Miles Davis sounds like a CLASS ACT! Beautiful.

Can't help but see parallels between her account of the Bird movie and how he was portrayed with Miles Ahead and how Miles was portrayed in that film...

I remember singing in my church choir (DOWNS MEMORIAL METHODIST CHURCH IN OAKLAND, CA) and the iconic Max Roach was our drummer for the session since he was a friend of our choir director, Bill Bell.

Miles`s account of old Art was not a good one in his bio. I was sorrowed reading that.
I've always felt that BLACKS SHOULD TELL THE STORIES OF BLACKS, particularly when it comes to biographies. Whites can have supportive roles BUT the story MUST BE HEADED BY BLACKS. It's like the different win movies between ROSEWOOD (John Singleton) and DJANGO UNCHAINED (Quentin Tarantino).

2dasimmons that’s a dumb parallel considering django was a fictional story
