As a new journaler myself, the tip that stands out for me is to not beat yourself up if you aren't checking it every day right after you start. Don't let that drive you away from going back to it. It's still not quite a daily habit for me but that was something I learned about myself. So I added it to my habit tracker for the month to help me get better. It is a lifestyle change that I'm still working the kinks out of. So keep with it!

@jodymarkgraf76255 жыл бұрын
From Walmart, I'm using an Exceed dotted notebook that was about $7. There's am-- elastic band, a ribbon bookmark, and a paper pocket in the back (where I store my tiny ruler). It's about 5x8, has around 200 pages, and is handling both Sharpies and Tombows with minimal shadowing. It's a great starter bullet journal, and I'm only restraining myself from purchasing 3-4 more because....well... consistency isn't my strong suit.
@ErinFlotoDesigns5 жыл бұрын
My tip for new planners (bullet journalers, in particular) is to start small and work your way up. For example, don’t try to track 30 different habits with your monthly spread. Maybe start with 3-5 and see how that works out for you. Starting too big can be discouraging and make you feel like the system isn’t right for you even if it is just being overwhelmed while trying to learn your style.
@carlas.artnook5 жыл бұрын
Yes!! 🤗 I for example started tracking various things like others that I saw... and I just had to learn finally that I am not an habit person and I can live with that. I track my sleep and that I am sticking on it bc I can see that not even sleeping is consistent. 🙈
@kaitlyng.4735 жыл бұрын
So true! I have tried tracking sleep and various habits, and realized that it’s not adding value to my life. The only thing I track is when I water my plants so I know I don’t overwater them. It’s easy to get wrapped up in what you think your planner should look like based on what you see on YT or IG.

Planner tips! Buy a cheaper version to test our. Wanna try bullet journaling? Michael’s has great dot grid notebooks for $5. They’re not bad quality and you can see if it’s the right style for you before investing in some of the more expensive brands like Scribbles or LT. You can almost always find a coupon for the Happy Planners through Michael’s. It’s very easy to get overwhelmed with the accessories! Pick up one or two of their basic sticker books first. Again, Michael’s usually has them on sale or you can use a coupon! If you’re interested in travelers notebooks, but don’t know what size you like, buy some of the inserts in that size first to test out! That way you’re not investing in a size you end up hating. There’s no shame, despite what IG might make you feel, in using planners from Walmart or target. They’re great starting points. These are things I wish I knew! ☺️

My other half totally gets my need for my stationery and my passion for perfumes and books. He's really into gaming (so I bought him an XBox and a big TV) motorcycles (so I bought him a motorbike) and he's really happy to know that anytime he wants to get me a present, he knows EXACTLY how to make me smile. He knows all my favourite perfumes, my favourite brands of stationery, my favourite inks, subjects I like reading about etc...oh it's so nice to know that when I want to get him something I know exactly what he wants and I know he feels the same. If we're broke, we go smaller on the purchases, when we have more money we can spend a bit more. But neither of us would ever try to demean one another for our personal passions. We partly fell in love over peanut butter with Marmite sandwiches, so we really knew from the get-go that we were special, lol. So glad to hear about other folk in nice, normal, stable relationships. One thing that I found is that it's definitely worth exploring options as well as say, trying something first? like for example, everyone love brush tip markers or the tombow markers. I got like, one brush pen to try out and found out I HATED it, like it's really hard to control, takes forever to dry. I do, however, love the Crayola Markers because they have a stiff felt/foam tip, and I've gone through 2 sets of the 50pack crayolas because they're so easy to use, come in a variety of colors and are easy to use for highlighting, art, and brush lettering. oh and it's like $7 for the 50 pc set.

Question: I also have a chronic illness (lupus) which brings me pain and fatigue. If it hits me hard at the end of the week, I can usually deal with it because I feel like I've earned that rest if it has been a productive week. However, it is particularly a bummer when it hits hard at the beginning of the week. Facing those weeks are difficult since I don't know when I'll get my energy back, which causes me to not have motivation to plan for the week. Have you found this to be similar for you? A lot of companies offer free printables on their websites: this has saved me a bunch of times - I either sketch out or print out the layouts and try putting my life into it - sometimes I can immediately tell it isnt going to work, othertimes I get inspired and excited that it might be really helpful!

Yeah if you don't have a printer--I would say getting a good laser printer? would be more than worth the investment, I have a printer I paid $55 for about...4 years ago? i still print almost daily on it, I refill the toner cartridge myself and it's meant I can make my own Traveler's notebook inserts, as well as my own binder inserts, I use it to print out knitting patterns to put into my binder, I have tried just about every format and type of planner out there but I don't think I've spent over $100 or so because I always make my own inserts or print out the inserts myself, so it's extremely cheap to try new things. I am just now starting on the disc binding system and the only reason why is because I wanted to get well-reviewed punch, specifically the Staples Arc one, and I shopped around until I found one for $29 and change which is the least expensive, and then I've kind of priced out the other things I want. I have a notebook to start, I may eventually upgrade to one of the genuine leather ones from Staples or Tul, I got some Tul Rings and dividers and then that's it, everything else from dot grid paper to daily/weekly/monthly inserts I can just print out on paper I've cut myself and that costs me nearly nothing. If someone doesn't want to get a printer or isn't the DIY type I usually tell them to start with a blank notebook that they can turn into daily/weekly/monthly layouts and try things that way first. I noticed a lot of people use weekly layouts but I only have mine to track like, bigger things for that week, and daily layouts are the most useful for me, I section a double page spread into an hourly schedule, a to-do list, notes and meal planning.

I think for a new planner the most important decision you can make is they type of binding you are most comfortable with...Rings, Spiral, Disc, Bound. I know that I have an issue with spiral because of all the years in school hating the cramped sensation I felt approaching the spiral. As an adult I tried a bound system but couldn't stand how hard I had to work to get the book to lay flat. For me that left the disc and rings. I ended up picking the disc because I can change out the disc if I need more space, but I can still keep the cover I really enjoy. Bottom line it is all personal, shop sales or use discount codes to find the planner style you like best.

Tips for planner newbies: your planner style may change year to year, and that’s ok. Also when you see people with lots of ‘stuff’ remember most of the might have been planning for while-you don’t need all the things just a few simple things. If you aren’t sure between vertical and horizontal I always ask people if they think in list form (vertical) or paragraph form (horizontal)...helps you get past that hurdle sometimes.

TMI - but Cramp Sisters Unite. TIPS: In regards to your FOMO Questions and the work out what works best for you first. I whole heartedly agree with this. About 2 years ago I needed stickers from every shop that was "in". I needed ALL the stickers, all the things and now 2 years later. I'm a bullet journaler - I have a notebook and a pen. I haven't touched my EC since last year. The stickers were gathering dust, so I've just handed them all over to my planner bestie who is going to use them. There were stacks of them, I just don't use them anymore. In the words of Marie Kondo - they no longer bought me joy so I passed them on. But I wholeheartedly agree, start small - don't go mental. Mine is a notebook and a pen now. Nothing more I need. Thank you so much for your videos though Cindy, they help me plan. My tips for someone new to the community (as someone who is still in their first few years of planner shit): in addition to what Cindy said (don't buy all the things), also don't restrict yourself to just the things that everyone else is using. There are so many good-quality products that are from smaller companies who offer things you might like. I found the planner that works for me after making a huge list of the features I wasn't willing to compromise on, and a list of things I'd like to see. I went through each of the big names, and then searched Etsy, Amazon, and just general Google searches for other types of planners. The one I decided to purchase (and the only one that's really worked for me so far) is kind of a lesser known company, but it works perfectly for my needs. Wouldn't give it up for the world.

İt has become so easy to make my page beautiful! One word in bubble letters and I can be done sometimes. I love it! Also. I use your style of lettering in my seminars and meetings. I letter the words that has to stand out as a reminder for myself. I realised lately that if someone missed certain parts of a meeting/lecture they ask for my notes. Like wth does that bouquet of cotton have to do with your bujo spread that btw isn't a cotton or floral themed? Put the candle out before you accidentally start a fire or burn your washi. Also drink the damn coffee, it isn't decor. So much dislike for those. Anyway my question is have you ever considered designing your own planner? Also yes please to the video of how you edit for your channel.

“Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones.” ― Marcus Aurelius I'm reading for pleasure for 30 minutes a day for #The100DayProject. I was a voracious reader for most of my life but lately it's just news, current events, he said oranges, wtf...etc. So I'm going to read OTHER stuff just for FUN. What a concept.

Question: Does it bother you when you make a mistake in one of your planners? I’m semi-new to creative planning and I hate when I lose lettering chicken. Does this lessen over time?

If I have to go out when I feel and look awful, I tie my hair up, wear gym leggings and an old oversized sweatshirt. When I see people I know they usually assume that I have been working hard in the gym. I do not correct them!

Question: How is budget planning going? Still in the Plum Paper (I think) budget planner for that?

Question and thanks: I want to thank you for talking about UU because I was raised in the Methodist church, and I now need to leave it as they are doubling down on their hatred of gay people and gay marriage. It’s so discouraging. I recently married my beautiful wife, and we are looking for a church! So we are going to check out the local UU. Here is my question: do you ever worry about having your life (even a small part of it) on KZbin? I’ve considered starting a channel, but I am such a private person. I don’t know if I’d be comfortable putting myself out there for negative feedback and negative people. Any advice?

Questions~ Have you seen the latest Mildliner Brush Pens? They are Japan only for now as far as I know. Wondering if you have an opinion on them.

Holy crap...BREATHE!!! I was worn out just trying to keep up with how fast you talked! You crack me up how fast you can talk & still make sense!!! LOL! QUESTION: Will you be doing any of 100 days challenge during PAYG or will you only be doing it with your Paterons?

Question: I'm interested in learning more about the UU church from listening to you talk about it in your videos. What key info or advice would you give to to someone looking into UU as a possible community? I was raised Catholic (loosely) but am now in my mid-20s and consider myself agnostic. I only go to church for funerals or weddings now so have only been maybe 2 or 3 times in the last 5-7 years. Though I don't feel drawn to a god or religion specifically, I miss the sense of community that comes from belonging to such a group of people and UU sounds like it might be a good fit for me.

Question: I am new to the channel as of the end of the february plan with me and I still don’t completely have a grasp on what you exactly use the powersheets for and how they work. Also curious to know if it is a specific brand that makes them or if you just designated a notebook for your own method?

Can’t risk going out in public looking rough, not even to walk the dog. I live near the school I work at (a neighborhood where many of the families from school also live) and it’s so awkward.

QUESTION: I have been watching the short lettering vids you’ve been posting on Instagram (which I love and appreciate). It would be awesome to watch them in “real time” to be able to see the strokes (🍆😂) slowly!!! Can you do a new lettering series specifically on the lettering you currently do in your planner and journal?

Draw the layout of a planner you want in a cheap sketchbook. Do this for a month. You will find out what you do and dont like about it. Do it until you find what you like...
