Hi Cindy. Thank you! This is great information. Do you think that every state offers the scholarship fund(voucher)for sped students? If so, where can this info be found? Is it on the federal govt website? I am also a former sped teacher and I am passionate about helping them be successful on life skills, military, college, etc...I currently work in assessment of sped. Students. I see a problem. When I assess, the student may test& score in an average range but their achievement is sub average. For some reason, the system is not working for them(not all, but some). I have been bothered by this for years. I think that’s why I was attracted to what you’re doing.

I was a member of the Lion's Club... and they give out their own 4 Year Scholarships at the end of the year, as long as the Student is attending there... (a member's child).

I am a teacher who have taught for over 12 years with a masters degree in Educational Psychology. I have taught ages from infants to adults. It seems every where I teach some things about how the school is ran or how the teachers are allowed to trestle their students and classroom upsets me to the point of wanting to quit. I am there now! I want to have a school to build these little people up so they can believe in themselves, have faith in themselves and in God, and prosper. I am so tired of regular education breaking these kids down and not teaching and loving them appropriately. Money and how to get it is the downfall for me. I have prayed so much...so I believe God brought me to your channel for a reason.

Thank you for this information. I was approached by a parent, whose child I tutored recently, about possibly helping her homeschool her child for a year in an effort to play catch-up. The child has an IEP and is drastically behind in reading. Me being a certified teacher and who has been out of the public education sector for several years now has been toiling with the idea of starting a Pre-K school because that is where my heart is. However, I see that our older kids are behind and need that additional help that the public education cannot give. With children who have that IEP, how would the parents get the funding (that you mentioned) that they could use to support paying for their child's private education?

It depends on the state that you are in and then the program itself generally have to meet certain standards, and be approved to receive state vouchers.

Do you have to be a teacher to start a school and how do I find out what the market wants, in other words, what parents are looking for and if they'll pay for it or is all this state funded?
@CindyTheLDCoach
@CindyTheLDCoach 11 ай бұрын
No you don’t have to be a teacher. You ask around, talk to parents, see what the state of the school system is. Private schools are not generally state funded

So we should do aggressive fund raising? I may even do like a 50k sba loan
@CindyTheLDCoach
@CindyTheLDCoach Жыл бұрын
In ALL cases, yes! However, you should def be clear on what type of school. If you are doing charter there are orgs that support those individuals and they often help with start up costs. If you are going to do a private school please be carful about a loan. Just make sure you will have the students so that you can start paying it back as soon as possible.

Thank you for video. I am wondering about the numbers. How do you get enough money to pay salary to yourself and your teachers. Seems as special ed(iep) voucher and grants, if lucky enough to get one, will not be enough to support yourself and teachers. How do you get that money you need? How many people work under you and how many students do you have. Sorry, just can't get the numbers to make sense. I am very interested and Inspired by you, I want to be able to hire inspired teachers as well but will like to compensate them for their work. Can this be done? Thank you
@CindyTheLDCoach
@CindyTheLDCoach 2 жыл бұрын
No worries! There are so many variables. However, however, most schools are tuition based. So parents are expected to make up the difference of their voucher. For example, for many years our Tuition was 10k. The average voucher was 6k although some of my students got as much as 8,500. Parents are expected to make up the difference. However, I did go after grants which helped some kids whose parents couldn’t afford to pay. One example, one year I received 100k grant. Every year I’ve been awarded grants although not that much from one source. Also, we run an after school program that is open to anyone not just my enroll students. We’ve also received matching gifts from businesses. I share space with a church and don’t pay market rate for that space. Also, I have a retired volunteer teacher who helps out a lot. I give her love gifts when our budget can handle it, she isn’t full time. Also, we fundraise. I still have yet to make my public school salary, but private schools in my area isn’t comparable to public anyway. Also we don’t use big box curriculum which saves money. As stated earlier, lots of variables it just depends on your expectations and the number of students you have. Keep following I am complete a step by step guide where I share lots of info.

Hey Cindy can you please let me know what reading program you are using? Thank you
@CindyTheLDCoach
@CindyTheLDCoach 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Kim! So I don’t just use one thing, one because I can’t afford the “big box curriculums” and because my students learn so differently and often need isolated, direct instruction. But here is what I use for the following: 👉🏾Decoding: Barton 👉🏾Vocabulary: Worldly Wise 3000 👉🏾Reading Comp: Read 180 (only one part of it and using older series books); Readworks (online) 👉🏾I also use a few state standards practice books to ensure I am exposing to standards and other things here and there, but we have a big skill focus. I hope I answered your question.

Do parents pay tuition? and can kids without special needs get the scholarship?
@CindyTheLDCoach
@CindyTheLDCoach 6 ай бұрын
Parents, who can, are expected to make up the difference to cover the tuition. However, we are inclusive, so rarely will we turn anyone away for not being able to pay. We work it out! Who you accept depends on what type of school you design. We started as a school for students with learning differences. I would love to expand and accept kids without disabilities too. The state scholarship is for kids with disabilities. However, it depends on your state. Some give vouchers to all students.

Hi Cindy. What is the best way to provide health insurance for your staff? Does it take a while for voucher money to come in ? Any suggestions on how to pay my teachers when I first open?
@CindyTheLDCoach
@CindyTheLDCoach 4 жыл бұрын
That health insurance is tricky. I have yet to generate enough to really cover the cost or share for that matter “good” insurance. Therefore, right now I pay my employees as contractors. However, there are some rules around that. In my state I get paid four times a year. The 1st voucher payments come sometime in October. The second in Dec and so on. The state has been really good about paying out on time. That is why you will need to have some capital to start with to cover the cost of your teachers.

Too much paperwork for me and I was by myself. I started in 2014 and the one thing I would do differently this time would be to create a team who was vested. In addition, I like not having oversight by the state; however, that funding would be everything. There are so many pros and cons to every decision.

After be a Substitute Teacher for over 4 years... also teaching classes at the College... I realised that not only do I want to teach Drama for acting on stage and film, which my daughter had do since she was 4 years old... HINT: If you have a rambunctious child... put them in a Drama Class early... The class will teach them how to Listen, How to do things while having fun... Remembering things easier, that helps with School later on... I am so glad I put my daughter in Drama/Acting Classes when she was 4 years old... Holey Moley... she was way above the other students, because she had be trained, while having fun, to listen, learn and to have manners... etc... Back to what I meant to say... After being a Substitute Teacher... I saw a lot of children, that slip through the cracks, especially when they are considered "Bad" or "Uneducated" etc... In the tiny town where we lived... we didn't have detention... so we asked the Principle to have the "Unruly" kids come to our Drama Class... where we would "Act Out' the problem, unbeknownst to them... and let the student be the Director, on "How to Fix" this problem... or what we called Puzzle... not a problem... It worked every time... I was a Foster Child since I was 11 years old... clear to 18 years old! I was Blessed to have great Mentors to Help me fix my problems. I used to Fight at school, because I saw that growing up... We fixed that! I want to not only do my Acting Studio... I want to HELP those unique students that have a chip on their shoulder, and show them how to channel that negative energy to positive energy... to teach them not only Acting for Stage and Film... but for Life. 00ooppss... sorry... didn't meant to write a short novel.... Thank you Cindy for all that you have done to help Want-to-be-teachers.... You are a Blessing...
