Guy and Deadpool are very different in many ways, Guy radiates pure positivity and childlike wonder. This is worlds apart from Deadpool, who embodies sarcasm and chaotic humor, like that wild party guest cracking jokes while dodging bullets. While Deadpool revels in darkly comedic antics and meta-commentary, Guy focuses on love and friendship as if he’s in a feel-good rom-com. If Deadpool is the edgy anti-hero making you laugh at his misery , Guy is the sweet, passionate character just trying to figure out how to be a hero in an absurd world!

Makes sense since the teams on both movies was similar. Also both have a Chris Evans cameo that was unexpected 😆

Being on the Black List as the most liked script of 2016 means that “Free Guy” really knocked it out of the park among all the unproduced screenplays that year. The Black List is like the cool kids' table in Hollywood, it's where industry folks gather to drool over scripts they think have serious potential. So, getting that kind of recognition is a big deal; it’s like winning a gold star in a world where most scripts are just collecting dust. Plus, lots of scripts from past lists have gone on to become successful films, so being featured means “Free Guy” was basically the prom queen of the screenplay world, everyone wanted to take it to the dance!

From Wikiped: Of the more than 1,000 screenplays The Black List has included since 2005, at least 440 have been produced as theatrical films, including Argo, American Hustle, Juno, The King's Speech, Slumdog Millionaire, Spotlight, The Revenant, The Descendants, and Hell or High Water.

Yep. Any rando with a completed script can upload their screenplay and it is accessible to producers, directors, etc. The catch is you have to pay for "coverage" to get someone to read it and they give you scores out of 10. Most Hollywood types won't read any script that has less than an 8 score. It also is majorly hit or miss on if the reader likes the genre. Some scripts have received both an 8 or 9 and a 3-4-5. It's basically like playing the lottery.

Ryan Reynolds does have more acting range as evidenced in his dramatic roles. He's no Daniel Day Lewis, but he's no slouch. The problem is those films fly under the radar, partly because nobody is going to risk casting him for a serious, high profile drama. The bigger part, however, is that people want to see Ryan Reynolds playing Ryan Reynolds. I've said for years that he is the modern Cary Grant; handsome, funny, ridiculously charming, and with impeccable timing and delivery. Both were very successful playing "themselves" and got too much studio and audience resistance when they stepped out of type.

I think the blacklist thing refers to a series of scripts that spend a lot of time going from producer to producer and everyone sees them as unviable, either because they think it would not be profitable or because of the difficulties that producing them would entail. And sometimes it happens that someone ends up doing them. And many others don't, they have been hanging around for years until they end up forgotten in a drawer. As for the song Believe It or Not by Joe Scarbury, it was the tune for The Greatest American Hero (and my cell phone ring tone lol), one of those many series that delighted those of us who were children in the 80s (such as Knight Rider, The A-Team, MacGyver, etc. .) The Greatest American Hero was about a high school teacher, Ralph Hinkley (William Katt) who during a field trip in the desert has a UFO sighting. The aliens give him a suit that gives him superpowers and instructs him and an FBI agent, Bill Maxwell (Robert Culp), who is also there, fight for the good. The problem is that Ralph immediately loses the instruction book and that gives a certain, restrained, comedic touch to the series. When the Senfield's character George Constaza use of the song as a signal on the answering machine was a way to pay tribute to that series. Maybe you could react at least to the pilot episode. We love that series.

Not scrubbing the reflections is not expensive like you think. In most games the reflections are pre-rendered not calculated at run time so the environment appears to reflect properly in shiny objects (often characters and light sources don't seem to have proper reflections). Thus, if Antoine didn't think to have his code monkies change the cubemaps (the precalcuated reflections) in all the locations there may be some that are using the original cubemaps, thus reflecting the original build, not the new build.

As far as references go, every concept doesn’t have to be timeless. It can be made for the people that know. Look at something like Airplane or Naked Gun. They have time period references but they have universal jokes too. It’s ok if everyone doesn’t get it as long as some do and they enjoy it.

You could then read it under a microscope for the shrinking code, grab the book, and re-enlarge.

This was one of the movies that survived cancelation after Fox Studios was purchased by Disney unlike the Channing Tatum Gambit movie that was green lit. It was also why FreeGuy came out later than expected in theaters allowing the film to add in Marvel & Star Wars references.

You guys need to watch Buried. It’s Ryan Reynolds in a box the entire movie and he’s the only character. Will give you an idea of his range

This movie is Inverse Deadpool. Ryan Reynolds plays all the normal people, and the world is Deadpool around him.

Jodie Comer is phenomenal in the show Killing Eve! Definitely worth a watch, eventually!

Something I'd like to point out about your comment, "I'm glad the main character didn't get the girl"... Technically, he did. Keyes IS blue shirt guy. Blue shirt guy is based off of Keyes and his dream girl is based off of Millie, which is why Guy falls in love with her. In the last scene where Keyes and Millie are outside the coffee shop, Keyes is LITERALLY wearing a Blue Shirt.

*Believe It Or Not* was the theme song from *The Greatest American Hero* It was originally sung by *Joey Scarbury* as were *all* the songs in that show. Scarbury is also noteworthy for having voiced *Charlie Brown* from *Peanuts*

Remember, there was no button to kiss. Millie had to have taken the time to hack and program that ability 😄 21:43 Saying Guy wasn't real, wasn't true though. He had become real, just a different version of real.

That cover of Fantasy being sung at the end of the movie is actually Jodie Comer, aka Millie.

The slang “Free Guy” was also a popular way to say “Extra Life” back in the day as well 🙂

I love how this film has the message that a video game can never mimic real life. It’s the real life that lets us experience love, not the virtual space no matter how real it seems

“Free Guy” is also one way that video gamers used to refer to gaining an extra life.

"The title 'Free Guy' can be interpreted 2 ways, right? One is free the person, Guy, or Guy is free. Does that make sense? Like he glitched through the confines of his programming?" When I first heard about the movie, I thought it was an arcade reference, like you got a free guy. Many games only gave you one play per quarter, or three, but then you could earn free guys through points, etc., so I thought it meant something about having an extra play, like a 1-Up, in slightly more modern parlance.
@WindosNZ2 ай бұрын
"Free guy" is also an _old_ gaming term for an extra life or 1-up. e.g. If you collect 100 rings in the early Sonic games you would "get a free guy"

Basically, Free Guy is a live action open-world RPG. It's actually an original idea, which you don't see a lot of in Hollywood these days.

I didn't know or had even heard about a single one of those streamers involved in this, and I don't really care to, but their (repeated) inclusion did not bother me in the slightest. In the past 10 years there have been exactly 4 movies that really blew me away and will probably remain among my favourites for a long time. The Martian, the first Deadpool, Ready Player One and Free Guy.
