The Chris Evans cameo came about because Free Guy was filming in Boston at the same time Evans' show Defending Jacob was filming. After getting the okay from Disney to use Cap's shield, Ryan Reynolds called Evans directly and asked him if he wanted to make a cameo. Evans was game, so they filmed it in a single day.

I have a friend who worked on this set, and she told me two things: One, Aaron W. Reed, the body builder who played Dude, is the sweetest person in the history of ever. When he was holding that basket of cats, he was so delighted with them he was nearly in tears. Two: Shawn Levy likes to play the music for a scene while filming said scene to set the mood. So picture that giant guy bounding down the beach batting at invisible objects while the theme from the Greatest American Hero is actually blasting over speakers

Guy and Deadpool are very different in many ways, Guy radiates pure positivity and childlike wonder. This is worlds apart from Deadpool, who embodies sarcasm and chaotic humor, like that wild party guest cracking jokes while dodging bullets. While Deadpool revels in darkly comedic antics and meta-commentary, Guy focuses on love and friendship as if he’s in a feel-good rom-com. If Deadpool is the edgy anti-hero making you laugh at his misery , Guy is the sweet, passionate character just trying to figure out how to be a hero in an absurd world!

The funny thing is the references to this movie that made it into Deadpool and Wolverine, like the motorcycle entrance by Ryan Reynolds and Peterpool's bicycle entrance, and the "don't you think he'd like a chance to fight for his world" mirrors the blade line that they never got a chance to fight for their world in DP&W. Makes sense since the teams on both movies was similar. Also both have a Chris Evans cameo that was unexpected 😆

This is like saying Nicepool isn't a Deadpool, when it's just DP with a slightly different preference of jokes. Delivery the same, mannerisms the same, interactions the same. Also It's not really DP, it's just Van Wilder. Ive been a fan of him ever since Two Guys, A Girl, and a Pizza Place and he was funny, but once he made VW that's just been his schtick. No matter what time of movie--action, drama, comedy--all just VW. Deadpool is just Van Wilder with a mask.

Guy isn't respawning with Sunglasses. He's going out and getting a new pair from some random player every time...as if he were a player that got permabanned and had to make a completely new account. But since he's an NPC, and Millie and Keyes designed their AI to learn and grow independently, the game is "saving" his experience every time. So even though he has to gank some player to get new glasses every time...his level and loot don't reset.

Being on the Black List as the most liked script of 2016 means that “Free Guy” really knocked it out of the park among all the unproduced screenplays that year. The Black List is like the cool kids' table in Hollywood, it's where industry folks gather to drool over scripts they think have serious potential. So, getting that kind of recognition is a big deal; it’s like winning a gold star in a world where most scripts are just collecting dust. Plus, lots of scripts from past lists have gone on to become successful films, so being featured means “Free Guy” was basically the prom queen of the screenplay world, everyone wanted to take it to the dance!

The "black list" is a list of 'hot' scripts, which aren't in production yet. From Wikiped: Of the more than 1,000 screenplays The Black List has included since 2005, at least 440 have been produced as theatrical films, including Argo, American Hustle, Juno, The King's Speech, Slumdog Millionaire, Spotlight, The Revenant, The Descendants, and Hell or High Water.

Yep. Any rando with a completed script can upload their screenplay and it is accessible to producers, directors, etc. The catch is you have to pay for "coverage" to get someone to read it and they give you scores out of 10. Most Hollywood types won't read any script that has less than an 8 score. It also is majorly hit or miss on if the reader likes the genre. Some scripts have received both an 8 or 9 and a 3-4-5. It's basically like playing the lottery.

Ryan Reynolds does have more acting range as evidenced in his dramatic roles. He's no Daniel Day Lewis, but he's no slouch. The problem is those films fly under the radar, partly because nobody is going to risk casting him for a serious, high profile drama. The bigger part, however, is that people want to see Ryan Reynolds playing Ryan Reynolds. I've said for years that he is the modern Cary Grant; handsome, funny, ridiculously charming, and with impeccable timing and delivery. Both were very successful playing "themselves" and got too much studio and audience resistance when they stepped out of type.

Safehouse and Buried come to mind. Buried is brutal and anxiety inducing. The last "modern Cary Grant' was/is George Clooney, and he did transition over to the serious side. But despite producing some high quality flicks (Michael Clayton is especially good), he's never been as fun and charismatic as he was when he was still playing himself.

I think the blacklist thing refers to a series of scripts that spend a lot of time going from producer to producer and everyone sees them as unviable, either because they think it would not be profitable or because of the difficulties that producing them would entail. And sometimes it happens that someone ends up doing them. And many others don't, they have been hanging around for years until they end up forgotten in a drawer. As for the song Believe It or Not by Joe Scarbury, it was the tune for The Greatest American Hero (and my cell phone ring tone lol), one of those many series that delighted those of us who were children in the 80s (such as Knight Rider, The A-Team, MacGyver, etc. .) The Greatest American Hero was about a high school teacher, Ralph Hinkley (William Katt) who during a field trip in the desert has a UFO sighting. The aliens give him a suit that gives him superpowers and instructs him and an FBI agent, Bill Maxwell (Robert Culp), who is also there, fight for the good. The problem is that Ralph immediately loses the instruction book and that gives a certain, restrained, comedic touch to the series. When the Senfield's character George Constaza use of the song as a signal on the answering machine was a way to pay tribute to that series. Maybe you could react at least to the pilot episode. We love that series.

Also, Jodie Comer is absolutely adorable, and to top it all off I didn't know she was British when I first saw this and thought she was American/Canadian just doing an accent "in the game" only to find out she's doing the American accent "IRL". Since the movie, I've tried to watch everything she's in or has been in that I can find. She's such a good actress and I can't wait to see her in Free Guy 2 with the rest of the cast again. Not scrubbing the reflections is not expensive like you think. In most games the reflections are pre-rendered not calculated at run time so the environment appears to reflect properly in shiny objects (often characters and light sources don't seem to have proper reflections). Thus, if Antoine didn't think to have his code monkies change the cubemaps (the precalcuated reflections) in all the locations there may be some that are using the original cubemaps, thus reflecting the original build, not the new build.

As far as references go, every concept doesn’t have to be timeless. It can be made for the people that know. Look at something like Airplane or Naked Gun. They have time period references but they have universal jokes too. It’s ok if everyone doesn’t get it as long as some do and they enjoy it.

I think the streamers aspect will continue to work in the future. It'd be a huge omission if their reactions weren't included in a game about an MMO game and I don't think that aspect of gaming will ever go away. So even if you don't know the specific streamer, I think it'll continue to work because you'll know of streamers and understand their role (though it was awesome that they got the actual streamers, not just actors for their bits).

I agree. I don't think it's relevant to the story if viewers recognize them as actual streamers.

I mean I didn't recognize any of the streamers, but that's because they don't play the games I like, and I watch streamers who do. However I don't think the fan service aspect is necessary for understanding what's going on now or in the future. For the people who knew them, it's icing on the cake.

What will come off much more dated, eventually, are all the Marvel/Disney references stuffed in at the end. The streamer scenes work even if you don't know the streamers, but if you don't know who Chris Evans is you're going to be very confused. And that all felt very unnecessary to me.

Tell me you’re GenX without telling you’re GenX.😂😂😂 Maybe should have said “fellow GenX”. I remember that show and I loved it too but I always wondered why when the aliens gave him a back up copy of the instructions and he saw that most of the command codes for the suit were just numbers he had to think of, why they didn’t experiment with more number codes? After he lost the 2nd book as well, I mean.
@lurkerrekrul
@lurkerrekrul Ай бұрын
@@turbopokey Maybe it takes one code to turn a power on and a second code to turn it off, and Ralph was afraid that he'd do something and then not be able to undo it. Like when he shrank, maybe it taks a different code to return to normal size. If he just tried that cod at random, he'd be stuck being small. Trying random codes to get big again, he might end up invisible, and able to pass through solid matter.. Of course if it was me, I never would have put the second book down after shrinking. Even so, if I had done what he had, I would have scooped up all the sand in that area, and gone through it with a magnifying glass until I found the book. You could then read it under a microscope for the shrinking code, grab the book, and re-enlarge.

This was one of the movies that survived cancelation after Fox Studios was purchased by Disney unlike the Channing Tatum Gambit movie that was green lit. It was also why FreeGuy came out later than expected in theaters allowing the film to add in Marvel & Star Wars references.

Something I'd like to point out about your comment, "I'm glad the main character didn't get the girl"... Technically, he did. Keyes IS blue shirt guy. Blue shirt guy is based off of Keyes and his dream girl is based off of Millie, which is why Guy falls in love with her. In the last scene where Keyes and Millie are outside the coffee shop, Keyes is LITERALLY wearing a Blue Shirt.

"The title 'Free Guy' can be interpreted 2 ways, right? One is free the person, Guy, or Guy is free. Does that make sense? Like he glitched through the confines of his programming?" When I first heard about the movie, I thought it was an arcade reference, like you got a free guy. Many games only gave you one play per quarter, or three, but then you could earn free guys through points, etc., so I thought it meant something about having an extra play, like a 1-Up, in slightly more modern parlance.

"Free guy" is also an _old_ gaming term for an extra life or 1-up. e.g. If you collect 100 rings in the early Sonic games you would "get a free guy"

I didn't know or had even heard about a single one of those streamers involved in this, and I don't really care to, but their (repeated) inclusion did not bother me in the slightest. In the past 10 years there have been exactly 4 movies that really blew me away and will probably remain among my favourites for a long time. The Martian, the first Deadpool, Ready Player One and Free Guy.
