Couldn't agree more that comparing this to the original is apples and oranges. They're both great. Not gonna lie, when I saw the trailers for this movie, I thought it looked like it would be a shallow action comedy with cheap laughs. To be fair to the lore, the game only puts you back into the time before you started the game after it's beaten. Alan was just trapped in the Jungle while the game was still going on. He wasn't put back into his kid's body until the game finished. The kids from the first movie only joined the game that Alan and Sarah started, and the kids in this movie only entered the game that was started by the kid back in 1996. And Alan was in his actual body with only one life. When the board game evolved into a video game, it started giving the players avatars. That might be why Alan aged in the Jungle, but the kid from 1996 didn't. So really, the game became easier by giving you spare lives and special powers. Also, we have never seen the game kill anyone. And it always undoes the damage it causes while letting the players improve themselves through the experience. Maybe it's impossible to actually die in during a game, and it's actually just trying to teach kids life lessons. It improved Alan's relationship with his father and allowed him and Saraha to save the parents' lives from the first movie, that died on a Canadian vacation.
@Chasmodius2 жыл бұрын
The question still remains: what did it do to the kids in the 1800s to frighten them so?
@androyus2 жыл бұрын
@@Chasmodius Like, everyone who played Jumanji are still afraid of the game in one way or another to the point where they decided to get rid of it after they beat it. The 1800s kids did it, Alan & Sarah did it, Spencer & co did it. The 1800 kids might be more scared after the experience coz people were scared of witchcraft during that period.

If I remember right, the writers were actually writing the avatar characters with these actors in mind because they were hoping they would agree to the job. Alan Parrish came back as a grown man because the game was still being played. Once they won the game, he was reset as a child back to his timeline. In the original, the players were themselves and did not become a character. In this one they became characters. That helps explain why Alan Parrish aged but Alex still looked young, since Alex was not himself in the game. Like the rest of the kids, he was playing as a character. 'Seaplane' McDonough was the character we saw and we never saw the actual Alex until after the game was won. A video game character does not age unless it is specifically programmed to have a character age. At the end, just like with the original, the game reset the timeline for each player. Alex got to live his life like Alan did, from the point they were at in life when they had entered the game.

I agree that this was a Dwayne Johnson film that Jack Black just stole. Jack Black playing a self-absorbed teenage girl was just a masterstroke of casting and Jack just killed it. Karen Gillen as Ruby Roundhouse and the Ivy League-bound nerd girl is fantastic. The Rock playing a bookish nerd is fantastic as well, and Dwayne gets to strut his comic chops, something we only got glimpses of in previous films. And Kevin Hart is just a riot. "What happened to the top two feet of my body?" That slays me every time. These people all do such a wonderful job playing against type, yet it all blends so harmoniously and effortlessly. And any opportunity to see Colin Hanks is a treat, but to see that he is Nick Jonas grown up was really special. And Bobby Cannavale, the cop stepdad from Antman, playing the main villain was a very good choice. He was excellent in the role. This was a tightly written update of the original concept and the many homages to the original Robin Williams classic were both welcome and wonderful. This could have been done in a ham-handed manner, but it was not. This was a perfect homage to the genius of the original, and still strong enough to stand on its own merits. This film did for video games what Lara Croft Tomb Raider did for video games. Wait, that wasn't right, was it? Oh well, maybe I will get it right next time. Have fun people, and never take yourself too seriously or life will show the world just how silly you are for real.

"Carnivorous hippo?" Many herbivores do eat meat. Cows, antelopes and deer, among others, eat small birds and mammals if they happen to be in the way. Deer have been observed eating carrion. Part of the reason is iron deficiency, part "there's a tasty snack so why not." Hippos display the most omnivorous behaviour out of any herbivore, thought to be because they're very territorial and aggressive animals. They have also been observed cannibalising hippo carcasses. Their overall anatomy is not really made for obligatory predatory action, like that of a feline, but if a tasty little treat of a Jack Black is just standing there, not paying attention, then why not have a chomp.

There is a spiritual successor to the original Jumanji which didn't do well commercially, so it was left as a standalone rather than being treated as a sequel. It's called Zathura, and it was actually directed by Jon Favreau. Aside from the director, it was filled with actors who were not very well known at the time and have become a lot more recognizable now, albeit not exactly considered "good" actors. Zathura was one of Kristen Stewart's earliest roles.

It also had Josh Hutcherson as the older boy and Tim Robbins as the dad. Hardly a no-name cast when you add Kristen Stewart to those two. Granted, none of them won for their role in Zathura, but that doesn't change the fact they won those awards.
