Honestly, I don't think there are any bad "Bourne movies". Legacy is a spin off but with a good casting and competent writing. The last movie is more like that 2nd piece of cake... Do I need it? No, but there's always room for cake.

In the flashbacks, when he says "I can't do it", it's in reference to the man in the corner of the room. He's given the order to execute him without knowing anything about him, as an order, so they can truly know he's ready to accept any missions and any task asked of him. At least, that's how I've always perceived it.

I like Legacy too, though i kinda watch it as a standalone movie unrelated to the other films, it's a bit like... Universal Soldier but assassins, also the non ending is a bit weird, i guess the world of Bourne is too complicated to wrap up a spinoff neatly. I've seen the 5th film and i think it's well regarded, i just don't remember liking it much.

There were three original Bourne books that the first three movies were loosely based on that Ludlum wrote before he died. The movies were pretty true to the Bourne character, but totally reinvented the Marie character. In the books she was Canadian government economist Marie St. Jacques, and she was reasonably highly connected in diplomatic circles, and had her own resources. In the book, she was actually closer to Pam Landy than the Marie Kreutz that Franka Potente played. I can say this now since you have already seen the 2nd movie, but Marie's death in the 2nd movie was a HUGE shock to those of us who had read the books, because Marie is his partner/love interest in all three books. Nicki, to my recollection did not exist in the classic book trilogy.

The trilogy was in the middle of the Cold War, and the entire central job of Jason Bourne, was to take care of Carlos the Jackal. The first movie was a good movie adaptation of the book, but after that, the books went one way, and the movies another. As a story, the movies were still good. (Books were better, sorry folks)

Personally, I liked Bourne Legacy. I think a lot of people were disappointed because 1) It was a side-story with Jeremy Renner as another agent rather than Matt Damon and 2) they tried to tie it to the other movies by having little clips from the "real" Bourne movies and that pissed a lot of people off. Once you accept those two points, it's a great movie!

I really like the Borne movies. While they are (basically) just the same thing over & over again, what makes it "work" (in my mind) is the varying, relative power levels between Borne & his enemies in each one! In Identity, he & the bad guys were on the SAME level. (all Treadstone agents) In Supremacy, he was ABOVE the bad guys (smarter, more capable) because he was the ONLY Treadstone agent. (aside from that one guy he ambushed & questioned & ended up killing when he attacked Borne) In Ultimatum he is OUTMATCHED by the bad guys (Blackbriar agents) and has to rely on his ingenuity & experience to come out ahead. At least, that is my interpretation & it makes it "cool" to me. That smile from Julia Stiles at the end was so good! (always like Julia)

The Legacy movie with Jeremy Renner is a spin off where the storyline has some backstory to Jason Bourne's origin in the agency and the Bourne movie where Matt Damon returns continues his story after the Ultimatum and also fills in some details of why he joined in the first place. One thing about the books though is that the stories are completely different from the movies. The movie trilogy is more or less one story, while the original novel trilogy are 3 different stories (subsequent novels are completely different and written by different authors). The first movie and book more or less start out the same way, with Bourne being found by a boat at sea, and he has lost his memories, after which he goes to a bank. After that, the movies go in a completely different direction. In the books, Jason Bourne was created mainly to flush out a ruthless assassin called Carlos who operated in Europe. The first book was about him losing his memories and the CIA thinking that he had gone rogue. After that, he retires and the CIA say that they'll leave him alone. In the second book, Marie is kidnapped and Bourne is forced to come back, only to find that he is against someone who is pretending to be Jason Bourne. The third book is about Bourne fighting Carlos.

My biggest pet peeves in action movies are when they use automatic fire. You would run out of ammo in ~4 bursts. And the other thing is the amount of c4 that they use. Like the car in the beginning of Rush Hour, that amount of c4 would have vaporized that car and seriously damage the building next to it.

At the end of the first movie, before Bourne "rents" a Vespa from Marie, you can see Brian Cox's Abbott in front of a senate committee saying that Treadstone was a simulation program that wasn't effective. Blackbriar, on the other hand...." (not a verbatim quote). Then it fades to the beach where Marie has a shop. Here is an ultimatum: Make the Bourne Diaries movie, or else every time you hear a siren, you will say "woowee" as loud as the siren. Everyone will look at you funny because we all know it is supposed to be "weewoo." There are two more movies in the franchise. One is a spinoff and the other is Jason Bourne. The intent was to have Jeremy Renner take over the franchise, but that was not received well by audiences, so they reverted back to Bourne.Speaking of.. "Matt Damon" was in Team America as well!!

Bourne Legacy with Jeremy Renner maintains the vibe and Treadstone story. It’s got really well done scenes, nice tension, solid acting, and a good story where you care. Doesn’t damage the other 3 at all. I actually liked it better than movies 2 and 3.

"He's got a cool voice." Albert Finney: The Dresser and A Man of No Importance (with a young Rufus Sewell) might be a bit too art-house here, but Erin Brockovich might go well. Thnx for putting together such a great channel!

To answer you question the most annoying things is when they shot someone in some movies the person is thrown away several feet, I’ve seen this tested by myth buster they used a bunch of guns even shotgun and the bullet simply goes through. It’s simple physics how can a bullet of a couple of gram’s can move a person who is 180 lbs

The filmmakers said the reason Desh was getting better of Jason, is because he's the younger/stronger version, but Bourne is the more experienced fighter, using the environment as you see, and that's why he got the better of him.

Bourne Legacy isn't with Matt Damon, it's with Jeremy (Hawkeye) Renner. It goes into other agents that've also gotten away from the agency, which adds to the lore. It's not bad but people didn't seem to go for it because no Matt Damon. I personally liked it more than the 2016 Jason Bourne movie. I say go for it, people will watch ur watch along anyways, i'll watch if u do the 2016 movie, even though i'm not its biggest fan ✌

Yes, they have that kind of eavesdropping reach, as Edward Snowden pointed out. Watch "Citizenfour" to get scared about it all.

Not a member of the IC myself but I have a number of friends who are. When Snowden did his thing the overwhelming majority of those who reacted to it were quite verbal in their disapproval of him. I take that & my own open source exploration of the tools & capabilities he exposed as confirmation that he was pretty close to the mark.

Why haven’t y’all done Legacy yet? It’s such a dope movie, and covers a lot of the exposition gaps from the trilogy about the training program itself. It answers why the recruits all had headaches, and all that.

‘Legacy’ is a good story to see what’s happening in the background along side the ‘Ultimatum’ time line arc…’Jason Bourne 2016’ is an extension to what happens years later with Jason and Nicky…both worth a watch and both packed with action!!

I just had to try to find the answer a lot of what you guys were saying seemed right on the money. look into Robert Ludlum, Ludlum's novels were often inspired by conspiracy theories, both historical and contemporary. awesome reaction as always.

Totally! The first and Legacy are the only ones I'll actually rewatch. I refuse to watch the others because Greengrass just turns the simple act of watching a movie into a headache inducing chore. Dude made some great audio stories and paired them with nauseating visuals.

I didn't like Legacy much, but I DID think Jeremy Renner was a terrific choice to take over. I desperately want them to go American Ninja 4 and have Renner and Damon do a sequel together...
