Fun fact: Will Ferrell, who is normally a very health-conscious eater, had to consume all of the sugar you see Buddy eating throughout the movie, and suffered constant headaches during filming as a result. Fun fact #2: Ferrell didn't actually do the long burp, it was contributed by voice actor Maurice LaMarche, best known as Brain from Pinky and the Brain.

@George - I'm not sure what your question about Santa Claus lore is, but I'm sort of an expert on it. If you're asking why Santa is "secret" or however you want to look at it....he's not really. His gift giving is the secret part. Santa Claus is a version of Odin Allfather. Let's start there. Christmas is OVERWHELMINGLY based on Norse Mythology. Odin - Santa - The lord of the elves in the far mystical frozen north. Asgard - the North Pole Valhalla - Santa's Workshop elves - elves Sleipnir (Odin's eight-legged flying horse) - Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen (Santa's eight flying reindeer) Yule/Yuletide/Yule logs are quite literally just outright Norse things. Straw for Sleipnir - Milk & cookies for Santa socks/boots with gifts - Christmas stockings Yuletide (AKA Christmastide, or Christmas Time) is effectively the same thing as the Twelve Days Of Christmas. Yuletide is when the Wild Hunt takes place, and Odin leads a hunting party of spirits and legendary beings across the skies on a hunt for legendary beasts. During the Wild Hunt, children would fill their socks and boots with straw to feed Odin's horse, Sleipnir. In return for their kindness to his horse, Odin would repay the children with treats and gifts stuffed into their shoes and socks. Mistletoe is a major part of Norse mythology as the only thing capable of hurting the god Baldr. Wreaths of greenery, candles, etc are all Norse traditions. Krampus is a dark demon-like being who kidnaps and punishes naughty children. He precedes Santa's arrival, and is seen as sort of the dark mirror to Santa. Krampus is actually the son of Hel (AKA Hela), the Norse Goddess Of The Underworld, Loki's daughter. So Krampus is Loki's grandson. Krampus is also a member of Odin's hunting party during the Wild Hunt. Santa Claus is derived HEAVILY from Odin's guise as the Grey Wanderer - a tall bearded old man, with a staff, wearing robes, who would wander the land. The Grey Wanderer is ALSO what Gandalf The Grey is based on. Santa Claus is also hybridized with the tales of Saint Nicholas Of Myra, an early Greek Christian Bishop from during the Roman Empire. He was the patron saint of sailors, merchants, archers, repentant thieves, children, brewers, pawnbrokers, unmarried people, and students. Saint Nicholas was legendary for secretly giving people gifts. THAT'S where the secret attribute of Santa's gift-giving comes from. The Dutch took the legend of Saint Nicholas and corrupted it into the character of Sinterklaas - Sort of a more legendary pop culturey version who rode a big white horse, carried a Bishop's staff, and dressed in red and gold. The name "Santa Claus" derives from the Dutch "Sinterklaas". Sinterklaas eventually merged into the mythology and traditions of Odin and Yuletide, and you basically ended up with a version of Odin who wore red and did his gift-giving secretly, called Santa Claus.
