There are a number of reasons why they push the car. One being to avoid the car being stalled (which causes stresses on certain parts of the car). Also it keeps the running hours on the engines to a minimum, thus minimizing the chances of parts wearing out mid-race. The engines usually only last about 1000 miles, and are some pretty extreme examples of what can be done on that engine configuration. So, every tiny bit that you can save is a positive. Racing at the highest level of any given Motorsport is an exercise in extremes, so teams do whatever they can to gain an edge, or prevent themselves from losing an edge
@rdlangston13

They're also loud AF and I feel like having cars idling out to pit road all morning would have some effect on pre race ceremonies and kind of take away from the start your engines command before the race starts.

@@rdlangston13that and especially these cars (not so much now since they are fuel injected) they wouldn’t even let off of the gas pedal for a lot of the plate tracks they do what’s called dragging breaks because the strain on the engine to lift off the gas would buring the injectors and pistons up. These cars are not meant to be ran anything but full throttle. Even at Bristol they would set the rev limiter lower so they could still run “full throttle”

@@BigMateo24 Here's how. He's referencing heads of religions to pray to, so including Tom Cruise is the joke because he's one of the biggest outspoken and famous advocates of scientology. I'm not saying there can't be a little nod to Days of Thunder, because it was a racing movie too, but bringing Tom's name up in that context, praying to religious leaders, wouldn't make any sense if he wasn't so famous and well known as being like...the top guy, celebrity, in scientology. I'm not sure of his exact status but everybody knows he's up there and...someBODY very important on it. That's what makes the joke work so well in this scene with Will Ferrell. Other comedy bits, skits, cartoons, etc, have used Tom's position in Scientology in similar premises.

This was the first time that John C. Reily co star in a big comedy. He did tons of movies before this, but they usually were small roles. The director loved the chemistry between the two so much, but was disappointed we didn't see more of it because their characters went their separate ways. So they came up with Step Brothers, so we could see more of them together. Also I think it was after Step Brothers John C. Reily got to star in his own movie called Walk Hard, a parody of the Johnny Cash movie Walk the Line. Although they kind of touch on all the biopic movies. I might put Walk Hard in my top five funniest movies I have ever seen. I can't recommend it enough. Do a reaction to that!

The invisible fire is a real thing, that scene is definitely based on the well known video of a pit crew and driver engulfed in invisible fire, which is worth checking out (not graphic and I don't think anyone was seriously hurt). In his spare time, he would crunch numbers on how to get the most performance out of every drop of fuel, trying to determine the precise amount of fuel to get the best performance versus weight. There is some very serious engineering going on in that sport. I'm going to vote for "The Patriot" as the most American movie you have seen, or maybe "National Lampoon's Vacation".

The ads on the cars aren't dramatized (Until Ricky sells the windshield to Fig Newton, lmao). But the ads you see on the cars are what you would see if you turned on any NASCAR race today. The sponsors pay BIG bucks to buy space on the vehicle. The larger the space, the more money they contribute. You'll also see vehicles that are completely branded for one particular sponsor with smaller sponsors having small stickers all around the car. Danica Patrick drove a car completely wrapped in a lime green "Go Daddy" logo. There are cars sponsored by Home Depot, Budweiser, Busch, and plenty more companies.

Not even remotely an exaggeration of ads on cars and driver's suits. And they can be seen and read quite well on television, or when they're on safety laps.

In my career as an actor I was lucky enough to work with John C. Reilly (on Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story) and Will Ferrell on Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back. They were both great to work with. Will Ferrell improvised most of his dialogue.

12:31 Yep, its fire thats fueled by methanol, which some race cars use as fuel. It burns with a transparent flame. There have been incidents where one caught fire. You can find footage of one on KZbin, its pretty scary, one crew guy caught aflame and for a long while people couldn't tell he was on fire.

I'm throwing a movie suggestion out there: "Miracle", starring Kurt Russell. It's the greatest sports movie ever and is based on a true story about the 1980 U.S.A. hockey team. The pregame locker room speech before the big game is EPIC. You'd have to try and keep as much of it unedited as possible. You won't be disappointed.
@johanjarvinen

That win by the U.S. team is so over-mythologized. The U.S. basically played incredibly dirty and injured some of the Soviets teams biggest stars. And then in the revenge games in '81 Canada Cup and '82 World Championships they lost both of them handily. Someone really should turn that Red Army/Russian Five story into a movie of it's own, probably following Larianov and Fetisov's life stories. Maybe some day when the Russians stop being the absolute worst on the world stage. Ah well.
@MarioCrosby
@MarioCrosby 11 ай бұрын
@johanjarvinen Every team is guilty of playing dirty at some point, and nobody has ever made that claim as far as I know. Even if it is true, that team still had no business beating them. Going from losing 8 or 9 to 1 the week before and beating a machine like that Russian team was should have been nothing short of impossible. That includes if a couple of stars were banged up or injured.

They push the cars from the garage to the staging area, because they don't want to use fuel. They do everything in the garage, add fuel, check everything on the car and every ounce of fuel is critical, and you can't add more once it's in staging. They'll race a couple hundred laps before they need fuel or until there is a caution which then they can come in to get more fuel and tires.
