I love how this list is slowly being filled exactly like a cinefix movie list. Between the actual movies that made the list there are a lot of honorable mentions. Cant wait to hear about all the movies from all the lists. If 99 on one list made 270 than it would be less than 280 movies total considering repetitions from all the 4 lists. Will listen to every single one.

I remember watching Gravity in cinemas. For some reason the distributor was only showcasing IMAX format in stereo in our country, and the only option to watch it in a classical 2D was a regular cinema ticket or Dolby Atmos. i have never been in Atmos room before and the film fit the best ever to this experience, because it is so rich of sound design and tension! 40 speakers around you with just around 50 seats available, and the screen was relatively small, but it all worked even better on the atmosphere of being trapped in space with no way out. And when I was walking out the cinema I have spotted two of my righthand fingers shaking. I was surprised to see that without of feeling anything odd except adrenaline and inspiration. So, thank you again for this movie, and for this interview!

yeah, I was under the impression that these discussions would be covering just the 100 films that the algorithm spit out as the top 100. Not sure I care enough to weed through 270+ of these. Reading some of the comments definitely helps show why IGN buying Cinefix was a bad idea. Anyway, Gravity is a decent movie, but it's middle of the pack in Cuaron's filmography, and some of the bad physics (which was shocking when so much media hype was on it being hard SF) doesn't help. Having it on a list called "Top 100" is a bit baffling.
@peerign Жыл бұрын
Honorable mentions are a CineFix staple - and if you listened to the episode, you no doubt realized Gravity didn’t make the Top 100. (If the thumbnail image didn’t give that away.)

So, this was number 270. Does that mean it wasn't in the Top 100? The episode felt like a Top 100 episode and was never verbally acknowledged as a "Not Top 100". These Top 100 episodes started off well, but pushing Vertigo to later in the episodes and this episode not clearly being a "Not Top 100" is making things really confusing. I don't know why this film still gets the hate that it does. I remember back in the day the majority of the backlash on IGN, where gamers and Hobbit fans with no attention span would complain about how "boring" it was. But now I think because Cinefix is owned by IGN that these same IGN haters are back. Gravity is a film of pure cinema. Not many films encapsulate the medium, but this does. Cauron said you can experience most films by listening to them, so he wanted to make a film you NEEDED to watch at all times. And boy, this is a film that is like an experience, more than most films I've watched (and I've seen thousands). Along with ROMA, Gravity is a work of Cauron's that felt more than a film. If you can't recognise that this is a masterwork of filmmaking then it's your loss. Edit: Come to think of it, the backlash may have been a result of that Neil Degrasse Tyson or whatever his name is. In a video he ripped on the film for its inaccuracies and that went viral, and everyone went into sheep mode because Tyson is a memey scientist. There was also the "Honest Trailer", more memey BS that ripped on the film. It's ironic though that the "Honest Trailer" for Captain America The Winter Soldier didn't point out any of its flaws. People back in 2013 wanted easy popcorn films so Gravity wasn't welcome, and to this day I feel this is still the case.

You have not seen thousands just like you told the other person on another commenter they haven’t seen thousands. The movie was boring, the acting was mediocre at best and the only good quality about this movie was the graphics which space has been done to death.

I agree, it's got a great pace to it and manages to handle tension and release really well. Surprisingly for me, I felt connected to Sandra Bullock's character despite little setup of her character, just off of the back of her being a human attempting to survive against the odds. It would probably make it onto my personal Top 100 and I can understand people enjoying it but not having it on their own top 100, but to consider it a bad film feels odd to me when it does so many scenes so well. For me, it's proof that you don't need constant silly quips or dialogue explaining what everyone on screen is thinking in order to tell the audience what they should be thinking or feeling at that moment.

I think "hate" for Gravity is too much, sure. It's not strong enough to inspire hate. It is definitely a masterful filmmaking achievement and a theater experience, but it is also not involving on a character or emotional level. It's a thrilling ride with a mediocre script. I'm glad I saw it in 3-D, and I'm glad I watched it again a few years ago with Rifftrax commentary (perfect entry for the riffing crew). That's plenty of value for any piece of cinema. One of the best of all time? I wouldn't even put in the top 500.
@kirbyhater1115 Жыл бұрын
@@allenrubinstein3696 Strongly, strongly disagreed besides the "masterful filmmaking achievement" part". It's emotionally engaging, with Bullock's character being a sympathetic character with a tragic back story -- not to mention the Oscar nominated performance. Not in your top 500? Wow. Just...wow. And why is it on "Rifftrax"? I bet the riffing crew all tried to sound pseudo intellectual, picking out the inaccuracies they never even knew about prior to reading it up online.
