Cinema 4D Packaging Tutorial

You guy should really pay attention and respond to comments here. You made a great concept for a feature, but if you can't properly show people how to do it and omit important details, the feature is worthless. This is pretty much the only tutorial and no one can get an Ai file to work because you skipped that step and how it should be created.

+Cloud797 Ai file: - create a box from solids. Make sure that the points overlap on the exact same spot, otherwise it will not work properly. -Save as illustrator 8 file.

OKAY... I'm a Maya/Zbrush artist... But this R16 update is cool. $3,600 is too dang much. Modo is like less than $1,000 and Maya LT is 800 etc.... How do you justify that amount?

I love this feature but where there should be folds it makes a cut instead so the panels aren't joined up and fold in the wrong direction. I tried the knife tool but it has no effect. Very frustrating as there are so few tutorials available. If I get this to work it will save me so much time (I'm a full-time packaging artworker)

Nice function! Is there a good way to bevel the folds to make the boxes look more realistic? I can make the box editable and then bevel the edges manually, but maybe there is a better way?

I know this tool is pretty old now and have ran into an issue in R2024 with z-depth. Everything works great until the geo is created. I get polygons fighting for depth where its a grid of blue and white materials fighting. Anyone have a fix or work-around? Thanks!

It worked pretty well for me. The cerial box is build and textured. Artwork form the client. The only thing I had to do is redraw or modify the splines in illustrator to prep. In my version there is s "Create Fold Nulls" which would be really handy to use but the button does nothing for me. Any idea?

Does anyone have a better tutorial for this function? He doesn't show where the button for "Fold" is - he just opens up another project with it already set up rather than doing it sop we can see. Very frustrating. "Simply drop the splines into the splines node" the icon looks like the python generator but he hasn't shown how he got to this point. Any help would be appreciated.

Ok, for anyone who is interested, you have to search for the plugin in the content manager, then drag it onto your scene and it will be set up already. You drag your paths into the spline layer and it will make it look more like the example. The "fold my design" layer also has two notes attached to it and that has a written step by step description of what to do there too.

Help solve the problem: the cinema recognizes part of the sides with the texture OUT, not IN. Is it possible to somehow replace the textures (from the inside to the outside, it is impossible to mirror)? I tried to redo the scan, but the program gives the same thing.🥺🥺🥺

So after a good few hours of trial and error I found the answer myself. Just like here, in the forums where I have posted the question no-one knew the answer: if your panels are not joined up when you import your dieline into C4D, DO NOT USE THE KNIFE to solve the problem. This is a very sloppy way of working and it won't necessarily give you the correct results. The problem is because in Illustrator you have either created several panels where there should only be one, or there are elements interfering (like guides), or the lines are not properly lined up. Go back to Illustrator and clean up your project: in your layers delete anything that is duplicated or not a panel, then adjust all the lines so they match exactly, if you find difficult to adjust the lines against each other use the smart guides (cmd+u) and to make it even easier increase the snapping tolerance Preferences -> Smart Guides... Happy packing!

Hi! I've done a trifold with this system, but The modify X our Modify Y ( min 2.57 ) doesn't seam to work it doesn't do anything. Doesn't give a spline guide to interactively just the surface. And in the atribute manager nothing seems to happen also when I change the values. Do you know Why is that?? How can I make it work? Thanks!
