Pattern animations are 15-25 seconds long, 4K and B&W.
In this C4D tutorial we'll learn how to make a material grow on top of another material using Octane rendering engine. We'll use beautiful Reaction Diffusion patterns (aka Turing Patterns) to make the material grow in interesting ways.

If you wanted more control over the reveal aspect of the animation could you use a static bitmap and mitigate/mask it with a vertex map node? Then you could generate vertex maps using fields? Heck--it seems like you could use fields to create the reaction diffusion in the first place and then you'd have full procedural control in C4D. is something like that possible with octane displacement? I am normally redshift user.
@NewPlastic
@NewPlastic 3 жыл бұрын
Hey! Great points! In theory it makes sense but in practice not so much and here's why: Vertex maps rely on mesh density for resolution. So if you want to have such a clean r-d map, the mesh you work with would have to be SO dense it would be unworkable! The point about getting r-d using fields is very interesting, I tried it a few times but unfortunately c4d is just not built for that. It's extremely unpredictable and such and easily volatile process that it's impossible to have creative control over. The calculations needed for that are also pretty slow, and tie that with the need for a very dense mesh to get a clean map results in, again, an extremely slow feedback. That's exactly why I wanted to come up with a more efficient and easy way to create this look, and came to the conclusion that using a video of reaction diffusion is the fastest and most easily controlled way!

if anyone knows a redshift tutorial that would be great. I've looked up tutorials for mixing the materials but coming into problems when inputting the image sequence for the texture
@NewPlastic
@NewPlastic 3 жыл бұрын
What kind of problems are you running into? Make sure that in the image node where you add the first frame of your sequence, you go to Animation tab and set the Start Frame to 1, and the End Frame to whatever number your last image of your sequence is. Also adjust the mode to Simple and your Frame Rate to the frame rate of your sequence. Then hit render and scroll thru see if it works. You can check this tutorial by Ross Mason he shows how to use a sequence in Redshift material. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rIXReZqpo5qSlbs

@NewPlastic
@NewPlastic 2 жыл бұрын
@@pablobeltran5681 Yup it's probably a matter of sequence. Make sure that if the name of your jpg sequence starts with 0, enter 0 in the 1st frame in the octane animation node. if it starts with 1, input 1. Let me know if that helped

@NewPlastic
@NewPlastic 3 жыл бұрын
Hah I can totally see where you're coming from. I should've emphasized more that this is not a "how to create an RD pattern" tutorial. I'm far from able to explain how the Alive tool works and especially how coding works. The main essence of this tutorial was to show how easily you can fake a growth effect with a texture and I just used these cool patterns as placeholder for any other animated map. The thing about RD patterns is that they're such complex mathematical calculations that creating them procedurally in C4D is just too much of a hassle to be practical. That's why I provided the videos which save you the headache and let you just have fun visually. But there's definitely tutorial out there about Alive tool and about achieving RD patterns using vertex map calculations (by Motion Designer's Community).
