@@Colorcubic worked like a charm, i dont have problem now to make circules but im struggling using bevel for intersections and places where i dont have space to bevel because i have drawed lines in the direction where the bevel needs to go, resulting on mesh break. Dont worry im looking how to fix this.

This is a nice technique, for creating very simple shapes, but only on surfaces with nice even topology. AFAIK when You'll try creating this kind of circle in a place where you haven't got perfect quads, then it will come out skewed. Still pretty useful cause Cinema 4D still do not have any other kind of tool for creating such shapes quickly and when modeling it's essential.

Yeah, it's not the perfect solution, but it works better than anything else that currently exists within Cinema 4D. I hope, soon, that they address that in a more feasible way. Still pretty useful though.

It should be noted that this method is not recommended with Subdivision surfaces as it creates N-Gons. If you keep your extrusion division lower where it creates a Quad then you’re fine 👌🏼 Also don’t forget to Optimize and delete your extra points.

Eric, This method is recommended to anyone who's not going to be exchanging models between different 3D programs. N-Gons are only an issue if that's the end-user's intent. Otherwise, concern for N-Gons is a moot point. If you have a better solution, I'd love to see it, and learn from your knowledge. Cheers!

Great tip! I found out that if you activate Corner N-Gons under Topology, it is not necessary to melt the subdivisions.

This is not the right solution for subdiv modelling, but still - cool. Bevel-based modelling is a bit underappreciated.

Yes, the hellatious Ngons this creates around each circle due to the number of points created around the circle's circumference would need a heck of a lot of work to convert the mode back to quads, properly.

Hi Ignacio, excellent questions. 1). I get a lot of questions about ngons. Here’s the thing about ngons; unless you’re working on a big production workflow with a team, and you’re unpacking textures for big VFX / CG productions / or video games, it doesn’t matter. And even then, ngons can be utilized, as long as the topology is clean. Ngons are only an issue if it affects the topology. As a practice, I turn off the ngons guides in Cinema 4D, because it interferes with a clear view of the topology. If the topology is clean, then it works. So my recommendation is, don’t worry too much about ngons, unless it’s visibly affecting the topology of your model / scene. With that said, there is an alternative method that I’m working on, that doesn’t result in ngons. I’m going to try to post it before this month is over. Be sure to subscribe to catch when that drops. 2). In regards to scripts, I tend to stay away from scripts in my tutorials, because the intent of my tutorials is to (mainly) show process and to utilize what cinema 4d has to offer without 3rd party scripts. With that said, points2circle is a great script, and you can utilize that as well. The results will essentially be the same. Thanks for the kind words! Looking forward to posting more content.

I’m not as versed in zbrush as I would like to be. I’ve modeled in it before, quite a few times, but I generally refer most zbrush character modeling to our Colorcubic art director. Substance designer, on the other hand is something I’m fairly familiar with, and may start incorporating more of a workflow between C4D & Substance. For me, it’s all about minimizing the level of 3rd party apps, and utilizing what’s already built into Cinema 4D. It’s such a powerful app, and most people barely scratch the surface. Most of the things one can do in a lot of 3rd party 3D apps can be achieved directly within Cinema 4D.

It would be a good way to go if it wasn't for all the horrible ngons ;) It actually takes more time than just inner extruding and selectively scaling a polyset to get an all-quads subdividable perfect circle ! But it's still a good technique to know, and and one of the lesser-known functions of the bevel tool...

this is really quick and easy but looks like it produces a ton of ngons. why not just use a boole or a nitro4d plugin if you're wanting to speed model?

This method is about utilizing the resources that you have available to you. No 3rd party plug-ins required. I try to retain that technique in my videos. As far as the Ngons go, I wouldn't worry too much about the ngons. You can always resolve that manually, by either melting the polys where needed, or using the knife tool if you really want to get specific by creating quadrangles. In regards to the boole tool, I would highly advise against using the boole. The reason why is that the boole tool is only native to C4D. Now if you're okay with that, that's fine, but if you ever decide to work in any other 3D program (Unity, Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, etc...), all the work you did with the boole won't be recognized. So, essentially, the boole is a serious time-waster in the long-run. This method retains everything you did, and is recognizable in all major 3D programs, without messing up the phong angles.

Hey man, thanks for the awesome tip. I've got a question though . I've selected multiple points and then applied the radieal bevel and it gives me that circular edge just fine. Now , i want to be able to select polygon within this edge and then apply the melt command , but i cant figure out a way to select all those poly's inside it. I dont wanna have to go select all the poly's inside each loop and then apply melt and extrude , as ive got too many points. Can you think of a better way ? Thanks.

Hi Souvick, Yeah, actually Keitto in the comments section suggested a better method, rather than melting the polygons. His suggestion was the following: "activate Corner N-Gons under Topology, it is not necessary to melt the subdivisions." That should fix your problem. Unfortunately this strategy doesn't work in Cinema 4D r14, and earlier. It only works in r15, and later. I'm working on a solution that will accommodate earlier builds of C4D, to help people come to the same outcome.

If you're not exchanging 3D models between other programs, worrying about n-gons is kind of a moot issue. This is a terrific, hard-surface modeling solution. If you're concerned about n-gons, perhaps this solutions isn't for you. Cheers! - Michael | Colorcubic®
