Awesome video Griffin! I’m curious to see if you’ve tried any Rf lenses. If so, how do you feel about the value and added features (e.g., de-clickable control ring with 1/8th stop aperture control, mf assist features, etc) of the lenses from a video production perspective.

Thank you! I haven’t tried any RF lenses yet unfortunately. I own a full kit of EF lenses and I’m a fan of the RF to EF adapter with the variable ND as well as the speed booster so I don’t plan on switching to RF any time soon

I like some focus breathing in horror movies. But in general, I don't mind focus breathing too much. There was a time when lens flares were frowned upon now you can't watch a video without it. Lol. "Hey. Where's the lens flares? Amateurs."

I would not agree about focus breathing. its simply a part of look. like anamorphic lens all has very strong breathing effect probably except MA series.

Cinema lens is always going to be better, image quality and build!!
@GriffinConway
@GriffinConway 4 жыл бұрын
I agree that is the case for most cinema lenses, however, as I mentioned in the video some jobs will be better served by photo lenses. Particularly if you need autofocus, image stabilization, or a smaller / lighter lens. Also, sometimes in a documentary setting you may be shooting in a hostile or sensitive area and need to keep your rig small as possible, so a photo lens would do well then as well.
@hbp_
@hbp_ 2 жыл бұрын
Really 10x more expensive lens is always better? 😱 Although, it's not even true always. Often cine lenses trade absolute resolution for other properties because ain't nobody is going to stare a single frame for several minutes. Also 180 degree shutter speed is so slow that often nothing is quite sharp anyway.

Focus breathing. Its really disconcerting to an aspiring filmmaker to see so many productions filled with focus breathing shots. Its as if all the quality of filmmaking has been totally forgotten. In other news, cinema cameras need cinema lenses. Previously the price of a good cinema lens was stratospheric. Fortunately, many lens manufacture are getting on board with making cinema lenses that are a lot more affordable -- so the compromises aren't so great. Even if they are really rehoused photo glass. BTW, you left off the more precise measurement of T-stop vs the calculation of F-stop.
