I do think you’re incorrect about the handgun situation. The episode good night Mr. Bean was broadcasted on the 31st October 1995, at the time it was legal to have handgun if you had a gun license for private possession, it wasn’t until 1997 when all handguns up to a certain calibre, (I think it was 22) were all banned for the general public. On a sidenote, the gun is actually an air pistol.
