That's actually a good point. People get harsher sentences depending on what a "reasonable person" would do in that situation and everyone/the jury/your peers vote on that. Absolutely no laser eyes, no punching, pushing, nothing. He should treat everyone as now adults treat children. You can be firm, sometimes shout but never go violent. This makes the beer can more or less battery since something as simple as splashing water on someone can be considered batery. Since the guy only threw the one can and stopped, he ceased being a threat. Homelander engaded in an act of retaliantion with a deadly weapon by killing him. Also, self-defense has to come with proportional force, meaning you can't use deadly force to defend against non-lethal battery.

ISIS was actively at war with the Syrian Government and is considered a terrorist group by them, just like the US and everyone else. While the Syrian Government has not authorized the US presence in the country, and therefore may be interested in pursing international litigation for Homelander's presence in the country being part of an illegal military op, they most certainly would NOT object to that operation killing active terrorists/enemies of the state. Most likely, Syria would however absolutely charge him for arming those same terrorist beforehand.

I don't think he can be charged for ANYTHING on the plane, even the threat. SInce technically there are no witnesses and Maeve hadn't spoken about it in any legal discussion regarding his crimes nor do I think would she really want to given the last time we saw her.

Court would likely find that the self defense argument doesn't work for him due to his powers. Also considering what his lasers do and that he knows what they do he probably wouldn't get away with destroying the plane either.

3rd party safety counts as self defense. He was trying (though not very Hard) to save the pilot Who was In immidiate danger. + his Quick reaction speed probably isnt always on. Though He made a mistake In not immidiately killing him, Even that May be understandable as the pain of the laser Would have made him shoot the pilot.

all the charges are handled separately in the event of an appeal if his 8/9 of his death sentences successfully got appealed for example, he would still have the one left and still have to serve that it just streamlines the process
