The Meg is fine. It's fine. It's totally fine. It's a movie with a shark the size of a submarine. Some people love that sh*t. Others do not. Regardless... like all movies... The Meg has sins. So we counted them.
Next week: Singing sins and horror sins.
Remember, no movie is without sin! Which movie's sins should we expose next?!

(Spoilers!) Having read the actual book series this is partly based on, it's hilarious how some of the ridiculous ideas Jeremy mentioned actually happened there. Like yes, in the books, Jonas actually does swim down into its mouth and spend a scene in the shark's stomach. Depending on the edition, he either blows it up by igniting some chemical it ingested, or he carves through its body and cuts out its heart using a fossilized meg tooth!

Interesting, esp. since the character's name is Jonas. It's an obvious reference to the story of Jonah, who was swallowed by a great fish in the Bible. (People say he was swallowed by a whale, but the Bible doesn't say that and whales are mammals, not fish.) Jonah was in the fish's stomach for 3 days and then the fish vomited him up near the shore. BTW, the Bible also doesn't say that the fruit that Adam & Eve ate was an apple. It's another case of some bit of misinformation that just gets passed along to children who grow up thinking they know the story while no one actually READS the story! [Edited to correct some typos.]

@DonnaBrooks
@DonnaBrooks 2 жыл бұрын
@@donjuan9746 Over 2,000 years passed between the time the story of Jonah was actually written to the time of the KJV or even Tyndale's translation, the 2 most influential English translations, so it's more accurate to say that the TRANSLATORS didn't know that whales were mammals. But I'm pretty sure the Hebrew Bible has always used a term meaning, "great fish." I may be wrong, but I don't think that confusion ever existed in Jewish tellings of the story. However, I grew up listening to Christian Sunday School, sermons, & radio & TV preachers, & reading Christian devotionals & Bible studies, and I was born in 1961, so things may have changed as scholarship has improved & awareness of the error penetrated Christian & secular culture. IDK what Jewish kids have been taught over the course of time.

ThePrince Karma you are also forgetting the 2million years of evolution it went through during that time, to adapt to a totally different environment. It’s not like regular sharks which haven’t changed much in that time, because their environment hasn’t changed. The Megalodon went from a surface-subsurface Predator, to a bottom of the ocean predator, with its insanely different pressures, minimal light sources, and food to eat. Then add that even animals like sharks get “the bends” when suddenly surfacing from +300ft depth. Not to mention the plus-15,000ft fast ascension(staying in the warm water pocket all the way) the 2 Megs supposedly survived unscathed riding straight up.

It's really sad that people are so stupid and starving for escapes from life that 90% of movies being crap is just expected. It's like films are rated based on what's in theaters instead of overall value, and people are going to go to the movies wether there's anything good or not so the majority of the industry is just making movies because they know they'll make money....knowing it will suck.

1:23 Actually, as a Chinese person, i can tell you that the Chinese language is super subjective. Not only did he say nonsense, but he also said it with the wrong intonation. In Mandarin, many words sound the same so you have to rely on the context to decipher what is being said. Like the word jiàn can mean more than 10 things, and though it sounds the same the writing of the word itself is not the same depending on the meaning. Not to mention that many Chinese words are two words plus and only mean something when put together. So he was saying one word with the wrong intonation and the wrong meaning. He's basically saying "Yo byud sme good clem." Do you understand that? Yeah, me neither. P.S. also, the actress didn't say "did you understand a word of that?" She said "his (speaking) is so strange". Which kinda has the same meaning but not really.

I've noticed that the English language also has a lot of that, that one word can mean many different things. I'm not comparing it in any way to Mandarin, I've heard that Mandarin is a very difficult language to learn. But I just noticed that the English language has a lot of words with different meanings. My first language is Swedish and yes we have strange things in our language as well haha, but I feel like we have more "words" than English does, poor explanation but hopefully you get what I mean. There's one example haha, "mean"..."You get what I mean"..."You are so mean!". Same word, two different meanings :)

It might be strong enough to withstand the pressure of the ocean, but not a full on Statham-kick! But, realistically speaking, something that's designed to withstand steady external pressure pushing in from the outside doesn't necessarily mean it's equally resistant to sudden, focused internal impacts. In fact, in a lot of cases, that kind of design makes the object more susceptible to internal impacts as its structural integrity is often dependent on the external pressure being even and constant; a sudden shift of the distribution of that pressure - i.e. a strong kick on the inside - could be enough to destabilize the entire dome and cause more pressure on one area than another resulting in catastrophic failure. Now, whether a human could put enough power behind such a kick to cause that kind of failure is the real question.

If there was a species of shark that’s lived in pitch black darkness for millions of years wouldn’t It devolve eyes since it had no use for them? Also lets say it just evolved the ability to have great vision in darkness, then wouldn’t the sunlight irritate it and keep it from going near the surface? I mean seeing sunlight (and a lot of it) after that long living in darkness would probably bug the shark a little bit don’t you think.

@@jjwp-ql5rv When it's typed out it's easy to think that. But let's type your thing out, phonetically, as it could be with an accent. Hetodug moomontin clau. Just because you can read the words someone typed up doesn't mean you could understand the words when spoken out loud with an accent. I took French for several years and we had to give speeches in French to our teacher as tests, as well as write it out so we could show our understanding of both verbal pronunciation and written conjugation. There were times where she wouldn't understand our speech but the writing would be good, even though we were just reading the writing out loud.
