To be fair, part of MiB’s premise is that unless it’s explicitly in their face, most people will happily ignore or explain away alien things. The scene where Kay sees all the alien stuff right in front of him in the city is meant to convey he’s becoming enlightened again to see these hidden in plain sight things.

There’s a deleted scene where they send him to a 4 week paid vacation and send him on a ship flying far away from earth to a planet. He lands down and rises up from the ship to only see those aliens but their 9ft tall. The locker is a door that makes anyone looking through it giant and anything handed through. But when you physically fly there you’re shorter. It’s basically a magical door that makes things huge from its perspective.

Those are alternate universes and that alien wasn't holding the galaxy at the end of MIB 1 it was the entire omniverse (collections of universes organised into multiverses). So the MIB universe has alternate omniverses.

The reason the "worm" aliens were featured so prominently in this movie is because of the MIB cartoon that ran from '97-'01. I havnt seen it since its original run when I was a kid but I remember the worm guys as some of the funniest characters on the show. My friends and I really liked them & they tested well with other kids in our demographic. Sadly that is how movie execs make decisions. They thought that kids would like the worms for just being there even if they changed their personality to be less funny, more creepy. Same story with the talking dog, but to a lesser extent.

I actually liked the second movie a lot. I didn't think it was as special as the first, but it was still a lot of fun and had some creative moments. My biggest problem with the movie was how they derailed K's relationship with the love of his life, which was insulting. That was great subtext for his character, and the original movie ended on a warm note with him "waking from his coma." I hated that they had them get divorced off screen. It was a cold and callous move.

The sad thing about MiB, they missed the formula that made the first one so good. Number 1 took itself seriously but left comedic moments to help us love the characters. Number 2. Was comedic but left serious moments, ergo - missing the mark.
