Men In Black is coming back to the big screen with Men In Black International this year, so it’s only appropriate to revisit the super popular Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones film that started it all! The movie was a huge hit and was one of the projects that shot Will Smith to superstardom. Although the sci-movie is great, it definitely does raise a lot of questions. Like why do the Men in Black have such an easy recruitment process. Why was Agent Kay only training Agent Jay when he actually need TWO new MiB agents? Why didn’t Edgar shed his human skin way earlier?
To answer all these questions and more, step inside the pitch meeting that led to Men In Black! It’s super easy, barely an inconvenience!

That's why we love movies such as this. The fact that if you think about it too hard it's completely silly is the charming part. Think about it, if MIB made sense it would have been a rather terrifying horror movie. Instead, we got a little gem of silliness and I, for one, am not complaining.

The Exposition Pug certainly is handy. Especially as the writers changed a lot of the plot midway into the movie and only way for it to make sense was to rerecord all the Pug lines to fit the new story. All movies should have a talking dog just for this. It's super easy. Barely even an inconvenience.

These little glimpses at the very core, the very genesis, of the creative process, are amazing. Chapeau to the studios for releasing this stuff. I would like to see the pitch meetings for some of the film's that were never made. I think I actually saw the film being discussed here. So few changes between pitch and theatre release. Thanks again for putting these amazing conversations online. It is like an education.

If I had to cash in my one request, please do pitch meetings for the second and third Men in Black movies. There's so much to dig into with the both of them. Like with the second movie in how certain events contradict the first movie, it the third one and how they not only under-use the main antagonist but how much they disregard in decision making and time travel changes. Definite opportunities for whoops and whoopsies!
