Cole actually does run away from Malcolm the first time he sees him. So he's acknowledging he is a ghost there.
@marianoyuba3736
@marianoyuba3736 6 жыл бұрын
That's right! The movie cleverly disguises this as Cole just being tight-lipped around a guy he doesn't fully trust, which, as it turns out, is Cole being absolutely terrified of a ghost showing up in his living room and sitting next to his mum! Their relationship isn't just about Malcolm getting a tough patient to open up, it's about a kid being chased everywhere by a ghost who, unlike all the others that scare him and ask him for favors, turns out to want to help him for once. (WHICH THE MOVIE CLEVERLY USES TO DISGUISE THAT HE'S ALSO ASKING FOR COLE'S HELP!)

@@marianoyuba3736 but this kind of line would create a bunch of other plot holes, such as why would the boy then tell Bruce Willis things like 'I can see dead people', 'all the time', just doesn't make sense, why would you tell a dead man you are able to see dead men) If the boy knows Willis is a ghost, why is he not scared of him like of the other ghosts? Because those other ghosts come at nights only, how convenient, why don't they try contacting the boy during daytime like Willis so he wouldn't be scared?) And finally, why didn't the boy tell Willis he was a ghost right away then, I mean what could possibly hold him from doing that? The length of the movie?)

In the first scene when the wife heads down to the basement, she feels the cold. It's not from husband, it's not from the guy upstairs either but it IS from the ghosts who haunt the guy upstairs. He was Malcolm's patient as a child when the ghosts started haunting him and the ghosts are still haunting him wherever he goes as an adult. Malcolm wasn't able to help him and that's why he is there in Malcolm's home ...to let Malcolm know that he was still being tortured by visitations and he blamed Malcolm.

I can say as a parent of a young kid, that you would be SHOCKED how your ear can pick up the sound of your childs voice, especially when they're distressed over general noise. Sometimes you don't even really HEAR it so much as you feel your ear react to something and you get an instinctual surge that says your child is potentially in danger. Her reaction is very authentic, you're not sure if you heard something but your maternal spidey senses go off.

The one thing that bugs me about is, was there a ghostly 'recuperation' period for Malcolm? Y'know, like maybe he didn't become a ghost until about a month after he died and he thought he'd been in hospital or something? If not, WHY DIDN'T HE WITNESS HIS OWN FUNERAL AND SUSS IT? And don't use the 'ghosts only see what they want to see' excuse - surely he would've been at least a little suspicious as to why his wife, friends, relatives and other people whose only connection is they knew him had somehow all suffered a personal loss at the same time!

Think of it this way: The ghost only exists at the times we're actually seeing him. Kind of like he blinks in and out of "existence" when he needs to be there for something to happen that helps him move forward. I don't think it's beyond plausibility that he simply doesn't notice or acknowledge the time lost between these appearances because... "ghosts only see what they want to see." Or what they need to see, as it were.

Cole was afraid of Malcolm in the beginning you can see his fear at the church and also when he comes home from school and spots Malcolm sitting near his mom. 7:23 Malcolm died by the hands of a patient he had failed. In his last moments, he was wondering what might of been if he had properly helped the patient, and had nothing but regret. Cole has the same exact symptoms that the other patient had, if you pay attention to the conversation with the killer and read the notebook when Cole is introduced. Malcolm's ghost is doing what he pictured himself doing in his last moments of life. The other ghosts were suddenly killed, like the kid shot in the head, the abused wife, the bicyclist, and some others I'm probably forgetting, which isn't true for Malcolm. The extra time gave him time to think. Just a thought though.

Actually, I thought that Cole knew all along that Malcolm was dead, but he liked him so much because he wasn't like the other ghosts. Malcolm was like a father figure that Cole didn't have, so he didn't want him to go away. He doesn't bother to try to tell him he's dead at first, because: A. He doesn't know how to deal with ghosts, to him they never go away, and B. He realizes later that Malcolm has to do something before he can go on. Basically, Malcolm and the other ghost have to accomplish everything they need to accomplish and then they will realize they are dead. When they accomplish their tasks, they will be READY to see they are dead. When he tells him to talk to his wife while she's sleeping, it was after he realized this. And that helping him was part of Malcolm's tasks that would allow him to realize he was dead. Then, after Malcolm succeeded in helping him, Cole realized that he needed to talk to his wife before he could finally move on. So, he told him to talk to his wife while she was sleeping, not because he thought that Malcolm was alive and his wife was ignoring him, but because he knew all along that Malcolm was dead and he guessed at the end that Malcolm's wife might be able hear him in her dreams. And when he talks to his wife, he sees the signs that he wouldn't have seen before because his business was finished and he was READY to see them. The idea that you are more open to spirit communication in your sleep is an old one.

The Rue Morgue I respectfully disagree. I think its amazingly done. Decent story most gamers should be able to relate too. Imagery is stunning. And dialogue is actually pretty accurate. Most people aren't witty, highly intelligent. Most people are average to varying degrees. I think the script was written with the average typical individual in mind so it didn't have to be hyper intelligent. All in all I really enjoyed it. And no my description of the films target audience is not reflected on me. If I'm being 100% honest I think I have a biased opinion simply because the nostalgia factor is strong lol. Nostalgia gets me every single time so I may not be the best judge. And yes rotten tomatoes gave it a good rating but so did most critics if I recall and its reception was well received by most audiences.

I was in line with a few friends to buy my tickets for this movie the weekend it came out, knowing nothing more than Bruce Willis was in it and there was a kid who could see dead people. As we're waiting the side doors open and out come the people who just finished watching their movie. A young couple, maybe in their early twenties walk past and I overhear the guy say to his girlfriend "I can't believe Bruce Willis was dead the whole time?" I didn't think much of it because like I said, we didn't know too much about the movie. This was back when the only place you see trailers was on TV and they didn't include all the good parts of the movie. Apparently no one else in my group heard the guy. We got our tickets, got our popcorn (the drinks and candy were in the girls purses) and found our seats. The movie starts, Bruce Willis gets shot and it hits me like a ton of bricks. This movie had been ruined for me. I'm still optimistic and I'm thinking maybe it's revealed early on and then I will be able to enjoy the movie as much as everyone else. Nope. As the scenes go by I'm just in my head screaming furiously. Everyone else is going to get a great reveal, it's going to be a part of cinematic history. Everyone will remember just how much of a watershed moment it was for them. If I ever see that guy again I'll staple his lips shut.

The sin of the ghost in the cellar can be easily explained. The crazy dude who will show up shortly was a ghost magnet. His presence in the house attracted nearby or ghosts within the house itself which explain the cold. Which will happen later with the kid later like when he saw the hanged people in school corridor. Pay attention Cinemasins :D

I remember being at a friend’s house one night a long time ago, going through the TV channels. We stopped at the middle of this random movie already halfway through, and I recognized the child actor. I said "look, it must be A.I." So we decided to sit back and watch. Right away, something seemed off. There was this scene with a boy turning his back on Cole, and showing a gaping bloody hole on his head. And then there was THE scene under the blanket. Man, most traumatic childhood experience.

Well there is a decent chance you would get off, it's happened plenty of times. Plead temporary insanity or something of the sort. Because I mean seriously, can one really be expected to be in their right mind or in control of their actions if they just found out their child they are in the middle of grieving was murdered by someone they trusted who is right there in front of them. I know I personally would go into a blind rage. I would be utterly unable to think of the consequences in that moment, it would just overtake. It obviously depends on the specifics of the incident but in many cases he would indeed get off.Edit: Probably would have better chances though if he just beat her to death with his fists instead of going for a knife because that seems to indicate some level of awareness and planning as opposed to flying into an uncontrollable rage.

M. Night always puts symbols in his movies; the color red was the big thing in this movie. Red doorknob, Anna wore a red dress to the anniversary dinner, Cole wore a red sweater at the party, Lynn wore a red sweater when Cole finally told her he could see dead people, etc. But yeah, she seemed like the type of mom who would wear red at her own daughter's funeral, like she was celebrating.

Huh.... that is food for thought. As many times as I have seen this movie, my impression is that it is somehow colorless. All the days are gray like under a heavy filter. Just did... Fuck, you aren't kiddintg around.... And I see the problem now: M Night said he did the first movie for 9 and 10 year olds, so he clearly doesn'tr understand the source material, I mean: I watched the show when I was like 12- 14, but after all the cartoon consists of Genocide, war, dealing with personal problems, crises and there is a full episode about wheather or not Aang should kill the Fire Lord. A film can only work if it either captures the tone of the cartoon perfectly, but then again: Why does there need to be a film? The cartoon is alright. If they told a new story it was fine, but just retelling and shortening the original is kinda lame. Another way would be to go full DrakKnigt oin the material and make it a dark, gritty world for adults, but I don't see the need at all. So to sum it up: second movie will blow. I can't be objective with this, it's just to obvious, that Avatar can not be made into a a good real- life feature film and shouldn't be anyway.

I've never seen this movie. I was actually planning on watching it years ago when I was in high school. But then a girl was giving a speech in my English class and used this movie as an example (can't remember exactly what her speech was about), but she goes something like, "it's just like the ending to the movie The Sixth Sense, where we all know how it ends with the main dude ending up being a ghost the whole time," and then the whole class freaked out on her like, "Spoilers! How dare you!" and she shrugged and said, "I thought everybody had seen this movie." So I didn't want to watch it after that. But maybe I could give it another shot....

Happened to watch The Sixth Sense by chance on a holiday to Gran Canaria in 2001. Was eating pasta on a balcony with my then girlfriend at about 10pm looking at the tv inside the apartment, before heading out. Thought is was one of the best films I'd ever seen. I still remember everything so vividly.

venger I do and I also know that there is no reason as to why the opposite side of the road is blocked as they should just be fine, perhaps they are slowed down and there's a traffic coordinator, but they definitely shouldn't have been stopped.
@venger
@venger 9 жыл бұрын
They would stop traffic if allowing traffic to travel in the opposite direction would disturb or contaminate evidence or if it was dangerous to do so. Also, we didn't see the other end of the road where the fatality took place, so we do not know if the vehicle was blocking the road. Also. How long was the road blocked for? it may be a temporary situation until the traffic police can created a contraflow or traffic light system.

You forgot to sin how Bruce Willis can enter the church despite being dead but non of the other ghosts can.
@shinydany77
@shinydany77 8 жыл бұрын
+Trepur349 Just a theory: I think the reason he could enter is because it is never implied that ghosts can't enter. The kid likes the church because the ghosts aren't acting "bad" when they are inside. He knows Willis character is dead. But he isn't scared of him. Maybe there are other spirits that enter and we just don't see them because they are good and not relevant to the story. And also, he likes the church because he believes saints can protect him from evil spirits. But again, who am I to know? I really like this film though...
@Trepur349
@Trepur349 8 жыл бұрын
though as was established by the movie, most of the ghosts weren't intending to be harm, but wouldn't go into the church (that's why he liked hiding in the church he made)
@gordn_ramsi
@gordn_ramsi 7 жыл бұрын
But the Latin phrase he learned, wouldn't he have heard it precisely in the church? It's a place where the ghosts, just like people, look for respite. They aren't going to be hostile.
@vonnealie6814
@vonnealie6814 7 жыл бұрын
It's because he doesn't think he's dead. He still believes he is alive, so there is no reason, in his mind, that he can't enter.

That one is hard to fake... unless you can do "ambidextrous". I can hold a pen in my non-dom hand- but I cannot make legible letters with it. Bruce Willis also shoots left handed; my brothers have commented on this from his many Die Hard films. We wish there had been actual fight scenes in that one with Samuel L Jackson so we could see him "boxing" left handed
