Fun fact - kryptonite was first introduced in a Superman radio serial. The voice actor wanted to take a vacation but the show was produced live. So they came up with the idea for a substance that weakened Superman so a different actor could do the voice. About 6 years later, kryptonite debuted in the comics.

And ever since then people have completely ignored the fact that ANY kryptonite being on planet Earth that wasn't specifically brought there by way of a space ship would be 100% impossible. A planet several star systems away that explodes is NOT going to have any actual debris make it to Earth, and even if by some miracle any of that exploded planet did happen to fly off on exactly the right trajectory, the speed it would be moving at would mean it wouldn't hit the Earth for thousands of years. Long story short; kryptonite is bullshit, and it's always been bullshit.

It's a shame how they wasted this movies potential over a money grab to fight Marvel. They should have designed the story properly and made it true to what most fans expected. Sadly the title was wasted. This could have been extremely good. Hopefully DC learns from this and hires better writers and directors.

Yeah, they keep trying to 'catch up' to Marvel without understanding that Marvel built the trust it currently has from the ground up, and that's after years of hit-or-miss movies with the Marvel name attached to it. Good thing Superman's mother wasn't named something like Philomena or Iphigenia, or he would likely be dead. Then again, it is even more lucky Batman strangely thinks "Martha" is an unusual name. It is odd superman refers to his mother as Martha but the point wasn't solely our moms have the same name, up until this point Batman had seen Superman as just an alien destroying cities and killing thousands, the fact that he has a mother who's about to die is something Batman can relate to.

That cinemasins remark is dumb. Obviously he means that even if there is just 1% chance of him being hostile, that is serious enough to necessitate the attempt to kill Superman. Not that I necessarily agree with it, but it is not illogical or anything.
@GeorgeMonet5 жыл бұрын
@@Riwillion No Cinema Sins is absolutely right. 1% chance means that is more likely to NOT be true than it is to be true. I mean if you think about EVERYTHING has some chance of happening however tiny. There is a tiny chance you COULD win the lotto, so does that mean you will win the lotto with absolute certainty and therefore should rely on winning the lotto? Let's say in the 1970s that the US believed that there was a 1% chance that Russia would launch all its nukes at the US within the next hour (for instance during the Cuban missile crisis). Should the US therefore launch all its own missiles at Russia because clearly a 1% chance is an absolute certainty? Logic is based on taking in the evidence and considering the consequences. If the US launches all its missiles at Russia then there is guaranteed certainty that Russia will launch all its nuclear missiles at the US but a 1% chance that Russia will launch its missiles means that Russia probably won't. So you are choosing between guaranteed annihilation and a 1% chance at annihilation. According to Batman's logic you have to choose the guaranteed annihilation everytime. Batman treating something which is more likely to be false as if it should be guaranteed as being true is therefore illogical, irresponsible and evil given the implications of that decision. According to Batman we should never investigate any crime to make sure that an allegation isn't false. We should never avoid using military force, never diversify our portfolios, never should have gone to the moon, never should even risk getting out of bed because that tiny percent chance that something could go wrong GUARANTEES that it should be treated as absolutely going wrong.
@armoda10574 жыл бұрын
GeorgeMonet a hostile Superman could spell the end for humanity. From Batman’s perspective in this scene, it’s uncertain what Supes’ intentions are. If further information demonstrates that there is indeed a small chance of Superman being hostile, Batman should treat it as a certainty. 4 scenarios: A. Supes is not a threat, but Batman treats him as a foe, even though it’s still uncertain. Best case is Superman convinces Bats that he’s not a villain. Undesirable outcomes: Superman kills Batman and Batman is dead, or Batman kills Superman and may have to live with that for the rest of his life if he later finds out Supes was not maleficent. B. Supes actually is hostile and Batman acts preemptively - this is the best chance at saving humanity. C. Supes is not hostile and Batman chooses to do nothing - Batman likely has less intel than he would if he acted more aggressively, but the world is safe. D. Supes is hostile and Batman does nothing: gg Earth. 1% is not minuscule, comparing the odds of winning the lotto to a 1% chance of humanity perishing was absurd. You can still argue that equating a 1% chance to acting as if it were undoubtedly true to be unwarranted, but I understand Batman’s sentiment of not wanting to run the small risk of extinction. And Batman never said anything about getting out of bed or going to the moon or military strategy, and it was inappropriate to extrapolate that dialogue to those ideas.

Actually Batman is more a rip off of various characters Zorro 1919 rich playboy with weapons hidden in a cave and wore a dark blue suit with mask. The Bat a 1926 serial film character that had climbing rope, Bat signal, black automobile, Bat face mask which is actually more similar to The Cat's mask which appeared in Batman #1 and had a Cat face mask. She was later called Cat woman and abandoned the cat face mask for different masks. The Shadow first appeared on Radio in 1930 which is 4 years after the Bat. He also copies Black Bat a pulp magazine character from 1933 which wore gloves with those funny looking wing things sticking out and a similar mask. Also copies the Phantom 1936 with shorts over pants and white eyes in his mask, and has tracking dog. Batman's tracking dog was called ace and the bathound. The Bat serial film was remade and released as Bat Whisperer in 1933 and Bob Kane admitted he saw the film. The makers of the film sued Bob Kane. Bob Kane paid for losing the suit, an bought the film rights to The Bat.

Props for giving Batman's brief fight scene some credit. Best part of the movie by far. And while adding a sin for Superman not throwing the spear is fair, I thought that should have been Wonder Woman's role. The one thing she has over Superman is no weakness to kryptonite; her taking up the spear would have shown functional teamwork and given her a reason to be there. That missed opportunity is worth at least five sins, I think.

Now that I've watched Man of Steel my biggest complaint is that this, this is the direct sequel! I did not love Man of Steel but in retrospect, it was way more enjoyable than Batman V Superman!
@hughmcmonigle54067 жыл бұрын
"The world has been so caught up with what Superman can do, that no one has asked what he should do." What is she talking about? That was what Man of Steel spent nearly all of its time asking, to the point where it was getting extremely annoying, and to the point where they had PA KENT suggest that he SHOULD have let a bunch of kids drown in a bus. Look, I get that people don't find Superman relatable because of his boy-scout tendencies, but they spend so much time asking "What should he do" that they try to make even choices that have an unquestionable right or wrong answer into something ambiguous. That is the biggest reason I don't like this version of Superman. In an effort to make him relatable by not always having all of the answers, they go too far and make it impossible to relate to him by having him be so confused he can't even recognize the right thing to do even when it's very clear.
@dantesilvermine51607 жыл бұрын
Hugh McMonigle It's a fair question for a realistic version of superman. He has the power to change the world but what right does he have. He could sort out North Korea in an hour and make it a much better life for the people in that area but what right does he have to intervene
@hughmcmonigle54067 жыл бұрын
Asking where he should draw the line is fine. Making the most basic decision of right and wrong (such as whether or not to save a bus full of children) a complicated philosophical debate isn't. "Life isn't that simple" doesn't mean "Everything in life is a complicated and tedious grey area." There are some choices out there with a clear right and wrong answer, and it irritates me that instead of having him go through actual difficult choices where anyone can understand both sides, they try to turn those clear questions into false difficult choices. For example, your North Korea scenario would be a grey area. Loads of people suffer there, but if he just barged in and started fixing things, he could destabilize the situation which could lead to much worse consequences. That would be an understandable dilemma. The ones they keep picking for MoS Superman are not understandable dilemmas because many of them are easy choices to make, and yet they still try to convince you that the obvious wrong choice is a potential right choice.

I was about to read that, but then I pressed read more and changed my mind
@hughmcmonigle54067 жыл бұрын
lol, yeah, understandable. tldr, Black-and-White moral choices exist. Morally ambiguous choices in movies should be ones where people can honestly relate to both options, not forced ones where there is an obvious right or wrong option like whether or not to save a bus full of kids.
@KneelB4Bacon7 жыл бұрын
That's what pissed me off the most about Man of Steel. They spent the first hour exploring Clark's character. They keep setting up the idea that Clark WANTS to help people, but he doesn't because his dad told him not to and that's why he's conflicted. Then the second half of the movie takes those ideas, throws them in the dumpster and says, "f*ck it, I guess we're fighting now."

At 9:30 Bruce states that" If we believe that there is even a 1% chance that he is our enemy then we have to take it as an absolute certainty." to which you responded, "Math is not one of Bruce's strong suits." Actually, he is correct. If an outcome has a possibility of occurring over an interval (years, months, weeks, days, hours) then the likelihood of that outcome increases over time. Imagine tossing a ball back and forth to a friend, if the outcome of one of you not catching (dropping the ball) exists as a 1% likelihood, over time that likelihood increases, and with sufficient time becomes inevitable.

Most of the time, this channel just trolls, but i do take these as jokes
@MyMagnificentOctopus2 жыл бұрын
No, actually it remains 1% the entire time. You just committed what is known as the Gambler's Fallacy. If the chance is 1% it is 1% every time, all the time, never any greater. Each toss is independent and has the same percentage. At 100 tosses, still 1%. That is what 1% probability means.
@AntoineDennison2 жыл бұрын
@@MyMagnificentOctopus The Gambler's Fallacy applies to non-sentient objects (dice, cards) where the variables are relatively constant, and the outcome is not informed by history because the mechanisms are not conscious. However, it's a poor metaphor for how humans (or a superhuman) would respond to an infinite variety of inputs over time. For example, while powerful, Superman can experience fatigue, both mental and physical, as well as anguish, regret, sadness, etc., and he could conceivably explore alternate paths toward his objective of world peace when met with repeated failure. Simply put, throughout a lifetime, sentient beings don't make the same decisions under the same circumstances at all times, and our choices are informed by past experience, as opposed to a roll of dice where there are a prescribed set of possible outcomes (which is where you're getting your constant).
@MyMagnificentOctopus2 жыл бұрын
@@AntoineDennison On the other hand, assigning any fixed probability of a sentient being doing something is also rather absurd, given what you just said, so the whole probability part is kind of pointless. (Also, wasn't the point it was a 1% chance he might EVER go rogue, so it really wasn't a day to day one, making it irrelevant how much time passed.)
@AntoineDennison2 жыл бұрын
@@MyMagnificentOctopus There was no fixed probability. There was only a minimal (arbitrary) threshold of 1%. But the point was intended to suggest the likelihood wasn't 0. Second, because the probability wasn't 0, that means that with time and experience as factors, there is an increased likelihood of a negative outcome. It's not a fixed set of probable, independent results like a roll of the dice (Gamblers Fallacy). You're right about the time the day-to-day time interval. It could be second-to-second or whatever time frame a superbeing would use to evaluate and assess the objectives of their efforts relative to the reality on the ground. Also, we don't have an infinite time horizon, only the lifetime of the superbeing in question and the lifetime of the human species. The last assumption would be that the superbeing wouldn't operate within a behavioral loop, correcting each successive failure.

Introducing Doomsday in only the _second_ film in the DCEU is _way_ too early and should've been done further down the road for the films. Also, the villain should've been Metallo. Lex Luthor wants Superman dead because he's "too powerful", so when Batman fails to kill him, he creates Doomsday, who's like five times stronger than Superman. That makes no sense. Wouldn't it have made more sense if Luthor relied more on a human in a weaponized suit instead of making something even more powerful than Superman? The guy in the wheelchair-- hates Superman with a flaming passion, goes so far to team up with Lex Luthor to take him down? He'd become Metallo. Metallo would go mad with power, thus forcing Superman and Batman (and WW of course) to form an alliance of convenience, but this movie insists on going all the way just for the sake of cramming so much stuff, so it would catch up with Marvel.

The original, full movie, as it came out in theaters, when you went to see it and payed money for it, wasn't the ultimate edition. You shouldn't have to pay extra money just to add material to the movie in order for it to make sense.

The "original, full movie" is the Ultimate Edition in this case, precisely because theater chain owners demand shorter runtimes for big blockbuster films to maximize showings and profits. The studios follow suit as it benefits their profits as well. Batman v Superman was a case of the original cut being trimmed and haphazardly edited, not a case of the final cut as decided by the filmmaker throwing in more scenes as a home video bonus.

What? Bruce didn't know Clark's identity, and even if he did, you can't chalk it up to, "Batman is the world's greatest detective, duh" because that's simply bad story-telling. Relying on that fact to make you believe in those logical gaps in the story doesn't allow for a coherent and believable plot. By the way, Batman got duped pretty hard in this film anyway, so he was in no way a good detective in this film. Everything he finds out about Superman and by extension, virtually everything he does in this film, aside from within the third act, was all deliberately planned by Luthor; batman just fell right into his trap the whole way through.

Joshua Galloway so better than Wakanda because it makes sense in the universe (where cities like Metropolis and Gotham exist) and doesn’t defy all understanding. Why isn’t Wakanda well known to everyone? Either they’ve been killing/imprisoning everyone who stumbled upon it over the entire course of human history, or it’s magic. It’s in an African desert, not a rainforest, and it’s far to technologically advanced to be sufficiently independent from needing imports to not be a well known place.
@RagingBadger684 жыл бұрын
retsaM innavoiG that’s a whole lot of “it’s vibranium okay!” For me, but honestly I don’t care about the impossibilities of a material like vibranium (like how it’s perfect for electronics AND weaponry AND armor and more which all requires different levels of ductilibility, conductivity, and malleability The point is that Wakanda makes as much sense as if South Korea suddenly ceased exporting computer technology in favor of returning to an agricultural feudal society Not to mention the difficulties in achieving anything technologically advanced when tribal-esque society is the only existing society. Innovation requires variation and tribal societies subsist on unity and zealotry. Actually, that’s not entirely true, unified and zealot societies can achieve a great deal in terms of technological advancements, most notably the Nazis during WWII. Wakanda makes as much sense as a kid getting bit by a spider and developing super reflexes and sticky fingers

Say you take all of that as nonsense. Fine. His last name, given to him by his adopted parents on Earth, was Kent. Which is of Celtic origin and is quite popular in Scotland and Ireland. Both countries where bagpipes at funerals are very normal. So...two very good reasons for their to be bagpipes at the funeral.
