Y'know, I actually liked the fact that the movie was 8 hours long. I mean, I get that some people might get bored or lose focus or want to go to the bathroom sometime in that 9 hour period, but I thought it was good for the pacing of the story, and I had a good 10 hours to spare that weekend, so why not? If anything, I think more studios should be willing to commit to 11-hour runtimes.

I feel like the 12 hour length of the movie really allowed for this movie to feel lived in to a degree the other Batman movies haven’t. I think if done well a 13 hour movie can be done effectively

Fun fact: Bruce aggressively buys Gotham real estate so that he can instal cameras, gear caches, technically not be trespassing when he lurks, and YUP, install skylights to sneak and/or dramatically burst through. This is actually canon in certain comic continuities (albeit prolly not this movie’s)

He doesn't buy them he aggressively markets waynetech to buildings in the city, I think because he has the cameras programmed to not detect him and in the arkham series at least he makes sure the vents are big enough to allow him to fit through.

1. The car chase was extra great because of how the nearby cars reacted. Most car chases all the surrounding cars either ignore the chase or all immediately crash and explode for no reason. This just felt real. 2. When I saw this in the theater I could hear someone nearby say "roll credits" during the roll credits moment. They aren't loud or disruptive, it was beautiful

I just like that the Riddler was basically Jigsaw in this movie because that's pretty in line with how he is in the Arkham Games. Not only does he place a bunch of riddles around the city that you have to figure out but he kidnaps people and puts them in traps that you have to save them from. Which... also involves solving riddles/puzzles.

It worked right up until he became a whiny little shit just mad at rich people. Before that it was the first time I felt they did the character right for something trying to shake off the goofy days of "riddle me this". Jigsaw style traps? Cool. A conspiracy theorist that knows he has to lead you to the answer not blurt it out? Awesome. I'm mad Bruce Wayne gets attention and I didn't so I'm going to destroy the city with a good street cleaning? And you lost me.

I grew up in a house with a skylight 15 feet from the floor that could be opened. You needed a hook tool to pull the latch and push it up. An extension arm would hold it open until you pulled the elbow with the hook to close it. Instead of creating a breeze like a window, it would release hot air from above.

Yeah, I’ve never lived in a house with an openable skylight, but even I understood how they operated. Time and time again, CinemaSins gives me vicarious embarrassment. Nevertheless, I still thought The Batman was a subpar film overall that had the potential to be much more than what it was.

I agree that having Thomas Wayne being corrupt would be more interesting. Batman started out to avenge his parents only to realise his parents weren't as squeaky clean and idealistic as he thought, he starts questioning his crusade but ultimately decides to be Batman for the hope of the city, not for his personal vendetta. It would have worked perfectly into the story.

Several times during the movie people call him out as a “rich boy” who doesn’t really understand how the city he’s trying to save actually works. And it all builds up to the “I’m Vengeance” quote at the end where he finally realizes that he was going about it all wrong and starts to actually save people and not only beat up thugs. I personally think, however, that it would’ve been better if Bruce’s father did actually intend to murder that journalist because it would further drive the point home that Bruce doesn’t really know what he’s fighting for.

Batman didn’t do any detecting in this movie. He was handed clues by the police from the person he was chasing. The one lead he came up with (the Penguin being El Rata Alata) was wrong, and that caused quite a few innocents to be killed in that car chase. In the end, he’s handed the answer to the final clue that the climax of the movie hinges on on a silver platter of plot convenience. The Batman in The Batman is a passive character. He’s moved along by the plot, not by his own proactive choices. I hate this movie

For Sin 93, I have to argue that the Riddler didn't go after Bruce directly for the same reason that he didn't go after Falcone himself despite pretty much knowing who he was (With the theatrics surrounding Colson being part of his MO of not just giving people the answers). Both of them are pointed out as social recluses with one staying in the private section of a heavily protected criminal den and the other living in what has to be a similarly very secure home. Add to it, Riddler has no chance to scope them out and find out their daily schedules and habits, so for Falcone he relies on Batman and the Police to bring him into the perfect place for him to be taken out...it seems like Bruce was just a bonus target for him. He talks about Bruce's father, he resents Bruce for being an orphan with billions of dollars and a home of his own and he lumps Bruce in with everything he hates about Gotham; but in the end I think that Bruce was less of a necessary target and more of a personal one for him. That was why he relied on something so impersonal and imperfect, because he didn't really mind if it failed as long as the message accompanying it got to Batman.
@cedbanani

Thank you so much for pointing that out. I disagreed with that sin for the same reasons. The Riddler did not have any opportunities to get Bruce the same way he got those other guys, especially with Bruce going out as Batman every night to who knows where.

I think he mentions that he thinks that him and the Batman are partners or "associates", that he is a fan of Batman. But then the Riddler also implies that he knows that Bruce Wayne is the Batman. So if the Riddler is a fan of Batman and knows his real identity, then why did he want to kill Bruce Wayne? Also, I dunno if I am alone here, but I found it very funny that after Batman introduces himself as Vengence and criminals tremble at the sight of the Bat signal, the thug asks him who he is. Well, he was probably visiting from the town where the Arrow operates...
@AntonNight

@@user-qj9en1kp1m The rest of that group seemed to realize who he was after his ‘I’m Vengeance’ line. If I had to guess, two years was enough for people in Gotham to have come to accept that the Batman is a real and terrifying presence, but that’s still a city with millions of people. Now maybe that one guy was fairly new to town, some forms of criminal are prone to being transitory. Or maybe he was that one guy who stubbornly believed the Batman to be a myth to scare people like him, and for a second thought that the man who would beat him into a pulp was just some regular guy dressing up to play on said myth.

if he could scope out the mayor nd police chief he could definitely scope out batman, he really wanted falcone but couldnt to him so he used batman to forcefully bring him out. Another thing i'm struggling to understand is this, riddler really considers batman as some sort of ally which is why it was probably fun for him to send batman the clues, when he found out about falcone he must be wondering holy shit i bet the batman doesnt know this shit so let me put him on, which makes me wonder why he isnt interested in knowing his true identity. Is it maybe because he doesn't wanna ruin the mysteriousness of the batman he had grown to admire, so out of respect he let him be? Personally i think they should have let that part he said bruce wayne in the prison play out like he knew his real identity. Fun Fact: they do in fact have a certain tool to open that skylight, if you consider it NOT being a ladder due to the position. The mayor could have a crank or chain off to the side, against the wall to open and close it. It could ALSO be opened with a long pole. But this action is usually performed by house help, hence why the mayor never expected an invader.

I think the biggest sin of the movie that Jeremy forgot was that Batman and Gordon just let the Penguin go after that shootout and car chase that probably killed many people. He just gets tied up and left alone. The two spend the whole movie trying to uncover corruption, they should just look in the mirror.

@@jdal21 Then you must hate 99% of the movies you watch. Sacrificing sense for cool is a strong statement and not exactly accurate. More like syncing the film to unravel the next exciting aspect of the story is more like it. And not to mention catwoman was still by the car so driving a muscle car with a rocket strapped to the back into it might’ve not even worked out well for even a women that claims to have nine lives. And as far as letting penguin go, it was sacrificing the little fish for a bigger one. Like he said in the movie “ I’m just the proprietor” he isn’t totally wrong. He’s a henchman that wants more power than he has or needs, and Batman can easily find him again when he wants. The main thing on both of their plates is “how can we catch a super intelligent serial killer/terrorist before he can really screw things up”

My issue is that for all the things this movie does great, it just calls into question how a brilliant mind that created that also make the errors they did. Example: I watched a video essay on the amazing sound design of this movie, and it used the moment where Batman and Catwoman find Penguin and his Maroni drug operation. When he fires his gun, the rain goes silent, because the movie has a POV element to it, and when you hear the thunderous bullets, the rain falls away in comparison as your ears adjust back. That's great sound design. But then you have the club scene where Gil doesn't speak up over loud music. Like that's a real contradiction for me how you have the brain for one and not the other. And then there's the multiple times of making the same mistakes like info-dumping or the "You should take a look at this" cliche. Gordon is made out to be a good guy but somewhat incompetent with how he and the police force solve nothing on their own. The insistence on long shots is annoying for an already long movie, the prevalence of following bike shots is annoying especially at the end, and Something in the Way is overused. It fit the trailers and could work for the initial bike ride to establish the Kurt Cobain vibe but after that it just made Batman an emo meme. He did a Joker where Catwoman says "are you just seriously scarred" and he goes "...yeah." Basically a damaged tattoo situation for me.

All sins aside, this movie was fantastic. They made everything about Batman more realistic. I saw it in theaters and loved everything. The color scheme, the music, the bat signal, which is far more realistic than the previous movies have made him out to be. He's not a superhero, but an incredibly intelligent vigilante. The batmobile is more realistic and the flying scene in his suit where he is attempting to land, but struggles with it like every other normal person makes him easier to resonate with. I love how Batman and Commissioner Gordon are more like partners rather than uninvolved with each other in the past. And mind you, Robert Pattinson's performance was surprisingly great for this role!

More realistic? How about maybe just once show us Commissioner Gordon or maybe even Barbara Gordon figuring out *who's the bat-guy leaving all these Batarangs around town amid all the major crime scenes of Gotham?* It could lead them to Bruce, an eccentric billionaire schizoid on the verge of losing his grip on reality with a very large stockpile of extremely dangerous bat-themed gadgets and bat-themed armored suits stored in a bat-themed cave under his family's innocuously imposing mansion on the Wayne Family Estate. *I need to see Bman from someone else's perspective* because Bruce isn't even a little "realistic" until he starts explaining why he doesn't think he needs psychiatric care. Bruce Wayne should be a hint more Howard Hughes, but with a socialite flare when he's not in his darker place. *Big Daddy from Kick-Ass is maybe the most realistic Batman I've seen,* but he used guns, and he wasn't funded enough to be the funhouse Batman could be if he truly applied himself to achive a 100% criminal-free Gotham.

Programmer here. The bit with the code is accurate if thats how you have programmed it. As it works out what sumbols are worked out it removes them, naturally this leads to the scatter design like in the film. The other option would be the the proccess would wait till everything has been decode then display the image, but a loading bar would make for a shitty sceene. Of all representations of UI displays for hacking or code breaking this one is one of the more accurate ones.
