The reason why Foxface (the girl from district 5) takes her backpack and only hers, it's actually very clever. It has been stated that she's the smartest between all the tributes, and that's no lie. If she had grabbed any of the other districts' backpacks, they for sure would've come after her. She didn't want this, in fact, her plan was to not get into confrontation, since her abilities in combat were not so good. Therefore, her being the first one to grab the backpack by being hidden in the Cornucopia before the backpacks were delivered, was the best plan. If anyone went after her, they would be risking the chance of getting their backpacks stolen by other tributes. So her plan would only work if she was the first to grab her backpack, and only hers.

The parts I always disliked of these movies, as compared to the books (I have read them a few times times) is that no one looks hungry, when in reality most are basically starving at home, the first movie makes it seem like Katniss was in the games a few days at most when it was weeks, and of course that you never get the aspect of katniss's inner dialog which you obviously can't do well in a movie. But her inner dialog is what really makes the series so special. She's a hero but she not the typical hero and she doesn't consider herself one at all. I wish the movies could have explored that a little more. And the hunger. No one seems hungry, at all lol

In the books, some of the more affluent districts do pretty much what you say. They train their children to fight so that when they're 18, the best volunteer. Katniss volunteering was a surprise to the viewers since the more malnourished districts understandably tend to perform worse than their more well off counterparts.

Only gripe I have? The commentary on teenagers being a lot more likely to be giddy about killing someone. Teenagers are still in the developmental stages where they're deciding their own personal code of ethics and morality while still being VERY impressionable, so it's actually very much easier to influence teenagers to willingly, even gleefully, murder people than it is a full grown adult who has decided that's a line they're not willing to cross.

Not to forget, they just did it, they didn’t have time to process it. Joking and laughing about it might as well be their way of dealing with it, especially after the first of them started with it. Makes it less meaningful, makes it easier. Who knows how they would have felt about it after the games if any of them had survived. But none of them lived long enough to get out of the situation I’m the arena. The only one who even lived long enough to (at least openly) realize the games were messed up was Cato and at that point he was completely alone and knew he was going to die. Interestingly enough, he chose not to kill Peeta when he could have - would have made no difference for him, he would have died either way and he knew it. But the others never got to that point and none of them could ever reevaluate the games after getting out of them. We can only speculate about how they would have felt about it afterwards. Also, the comparison between the military and the careers makes no sense, not only because the careers are still kids and soldiers aren’t. Soldiers don’t train from childhood on, they don’t grow up with the knowledge that they’ll be in an arena with 23 other people and only one will survive one day, most soldiers are pretty normal people. The careers, on the other hand, are brainwashed enough to volunteer for those crazy games where only one out of 24 will survive. They are already completely messed up when they enter the arena. It would make no sense for them to act like normal teenagers and definitely not to act like normal adults with a strong moral code.

I always laughed in the movie when Katniss is in the tree and the careers are down on the ground..like they are supposed to be so deadly and dangerous yet not only were they unable to get her at the first attempt but they all just gave up and decided to wait her out? Didn't we earlier see Clove not miss a target with her knives? I get that it had to happen because Katniss couldn't just die there and then but even Glimmer..are you telling me she couldn't get Katniss with her bow and arrow? Why did Cato even do it when Glimmer is supposed to be skilled with a bow and arrow? 😅 I was always confused at this part haha

Also, the idea of the four tributes from District One and District Two working together in harmony seems shaky to me. Yes, it’s easier to survive in a group. However, these three people are also your biggest threats - and the movie goes out of its way to portray these kids as evil. So, it doesn’t seem like they would care about loyalty to each other. At the very least, the movie could throw in a few lines about some kind of code. For example, maybe they’re trained to work as a pack - and, then, when it’s just them left, they divide up and hunt each other. With the info that we’re given, I feel like at least one of them would seize an opportunity to betray and kill off the group.
@mattc35812 жыл бұрын
What really makes no sense is that the other districts don't have some sort of agreement to team up, even between their own two tributes a lot of the time it seems. They're mostly just happy to run off solo and let the careers hunt them down one by one.
@Diana-qp2rw2 жыл бұрын
It seemed so much more convincing in the books. Have you read them? The careers were portrayed less evil there and not completely cold. It’s been a while since I read them, but I remember when Clove died Cato begged her to stay with him, while in the movie they only show the careers’ cruel sides. I also think it was explained in the books they had this understanding to work together until the others were dead - every year the tributes from the career districts would do so, it was known to everyone. I suppose if one of them would betray another the tribute would be the next target of all the careers left so it wouldn’t be wise to betray another career. They also tried to hunt Peeta down when he betrayed them, but again, the book explained it much better. They should have taken a bit more time for that, just a few minutes.
@mattc35812 жыл бұрын
@@Diana-qp2rw I have read the books and agree they flesh out much more how the teaming up of the careers is a well established thing that happens every time. Also as you say, almost any kid in this situation, trained or otherwise, is going to be traumatised by killing each other like this. I was just observing that it seemed like a failing in the books and films that none of the other tributes teamed up as well, from a tactical perspective it would make overwhelming sense to have at least a small team. Seems like this would have to be organised informally as there is no established teaming up other than the careers, but I would have been working on that pretty much the entire time they had training. Get a team in place so we can work together to give ourselves a chance against the careers. I say no-one else did it, but clearly Katniss and Rue did join up, so it obviously wasn't prohibited. There are problems down the line about when the coalition breaks, does it hold till just they are left or does someone backstab before then etc, but fundamentally a team has a much much higher chance of surviving it would seem.
@isabellaamarante404 Жыл бұрын
I think the reason it’s rare for other districts to form alliances is the same it’s rare for them to volunteer. Most of them are completely clueless in terms of survival, have no hope of winning and are frightened of everyone else. Also, forming an alliance means you have to trust someone enough not to be backstabbed and be prepared for the idea to get to know someone (and humanize them) and maybe have to kill them later. This is why Katniss couldn’t let Peeta die after all, she didn’t even had to kill him, his leg wounds would bleed him to death on its own, but couldn’t allow this to happen after she spent days humanizing him (I know there is their past history to consider as well, but that didn’t stop her earlier in the ganes to throw a nest at his general direction) The careers don’t mind forming an alliance because they are completely brainwashed into buying the whole show, they volunteer and seem proud of being in the show, unlike anyone else

I’m still using the Suzuki method because I have more confidence in my processional memory of the piano piece I have practiced for weeks on end whilst looking at the piano keys than reading a sheet of paper that is high enough to cut off my hands from my peripheral vision AND remembering the exact stretch I need to reach specific notes without looking AND trying to make sure I read for both the left AND right hand AND not get confused about which section I might accidentally skip to or if I missed a specific musical notation that signifies my needing to jump an octave or get louder or softer or if the sharps and flats suddenly change- Oh no I’ve gone cross-eyed.
