DreamWorks is a successful company with a big budget, so I assume they would be able to afford Avril Lavigne to do music for the movie. I'm a little surprised you didn't mention that the animators accidentally had Stella in her old look after 12:58 (around the 55-minute mark in the full length movie). To be fair, it took me rewatching the film several times to notice it because it's not very obvious. Animators must've made that scene before they came up with the idea of giving Stella a makeover.
