The "stunted development" thing is technically true, but from a movie making perspective, I think the movie deliberately cast kids that were a bit older. Because one to four-year-olds are often way more trouble to work with than it's worth. So I think they may have pulled a Matilda and aged up the characters to where it's still obviously "a young child", but you can at least trust the child actors to have the capacity to follow a command for longer than ten seconds.

What I find really impressive about this movie is it used allegedly used a scrapped FNAF movie script, which combined with a real-life series featuring animal mascots ended up creating that horrifying feeling of having your childhood ruined which the characters in the FNAF universe (particularly in the books) probably had. I’m serious. I’ve seen a lot of “childhood ruined” comments on stuff, but this movie holds the current record for me.
