Part of the reason I love the fact that the Janitor is fully silent is because I'd like to think he's very much meant to be a video game main character without any voice lines or dialogue options while all the other characters are basically NPCs, that's why to them killing the animatronics seems impossible to do while it seems so easy for him

@codylindeman97832 жыл бұрын
I think the character is super underrated. It was the main draw of the movie for me. He is peak masculinity. He has perfect integrity. He takes his breaks not because he wants to, but because he agreed to take the job and his boss told him to as part of the job. He cleans between the attacks because that’s the job he agreed to do. He wouldn’t have left even if the doors weren’t unlocked. My favorite part is that after each attack, he gives the remaining animatronics the chance to be peaceful. He only defends himself when threatened. Non-aggression principal taken to an extreme. Just like every other principal he has. I’m surprised James didn’t go more in depth with his character. Maybe I only care because I’m a philosophy nerd.

I had heard a lot of theories that Cage’s character was somehow related to the tragedies there, like his parents were victims or some shit but he survived. And the trauma is why he doesn’t talk, and why he has a lot of “childish habits”. He went into the town already knowing what the deal was, which is why he seems so unfazed and wanted to stay even when he knew what was happening. He went to the town specifically to kill the creatures.
@danielm.5952 жыл бұрын

I actually really dig Nick's character in this movie. The dog tags hanging from the rearview mirror imply a military background, with possible trauma explaining the silent demeanor and nonchalant approach to everything. I also really like the breaks. The levelling up allegory makes way more sense when you notice that each break has him getting better at the pinball cabinet over time, culminating in him rolling the score counter over while also dancing. It being his workbench as he prepares to fight Willy again is also really fitting.
@perpetus25142 жыл бұрын
There’s a theory that he came to the town to get revenge on the robots which also explains why he doesn’t react to anything or leave when he has the chance to
@ThermiteKitty2 жыл бұрын
It also feels almost ritualistic. Like, there's no proof, but I imagine that taking the breaks is an occult rule that allows him to kill the animatronics, which is why the other workers just died. Tex Macadoo wants the animatronics dead so he gives each sacrifice the hint, but any other person would either just try to finish ASAP or forget about taking breaks or cleaning after the first possessed animatronic attack.

He's a military machine. That's why he doesn't talk and he needs FUEL (sugar soda) for his electrolyte based fuel cells. The movie gives this away in the very first scene right after the tires pop. He stands there motionless as the sun goes across the sky. He is a machine.

A small theory I have on Cage's janitor: Given we see dog tags on his rear view mirror, he's got a military background. His fighting style and prowess seems to indicate special ops, or even a commando. A military background might also explain his insistence on taking breaks as he was ordered by Tex to take breaks. His silence could be PTSD from his time in the military, or damage from a previous mission. It's all speculation, but it would give a fairly plausible explanation for his skills and dedication to a job that he reasonably should have walked out on. (He had no problems kicking that chained door down.)

Ever since I saw this movie with my sibling, they came up with the headcanon that The Janitor is an autistic mute with diabetes and it just made me enjoy this movie even more. The strict scheduled downing of sodas to keep blood sugar up, the lack of talking and varying expressions, the casual acceptance of the animatronics coming to life and needing to be taken down, the commitment to the job even after the life threatening attacks; it all makes sense through that lens and we just love giving it that personal perspective to love the movie even more

I think it stands fine on its own, but it's so painfully obvious that this was supposed to be the FNaF movie before Scott switched to blumhouse, with the backstory, the breaks, and (most obviously), the theming. If Scott let this be the FNaF movie, I think the community would have been completely outraged, and now seeing the FNaF movie trailer, with blumhouse getting *actual* animatronics, I'm glad Scott didn't let this be FNaF's theatrical debut. Warner didn't have faith or respect for the franchise, and it's clear that Blumhouse does.

I think the reason cage was so focused on the breaks is because the guy at the beginning made it clear that he really needed to take breaks. I interpreted his intense other-ness as him just not being supposed to be there. _Literally._ He's an action movie protagonist that stumbled into a horror movie and completely breaks everything.
