Hey Jay, it‘s simply breathtaking how you‘re not just creating fancy soundscapes but multiple moving layers of entwined soundlyrics. That is music-wise much more complex and interesting than much of the other electronic stuff that can be found on YT. You amalgamate musicality and technical finesse in a very forceful way. Thank you for sharing your work and knowledge…

I love your work man! Pam's was the first module I ever thought about maybe having 2 of. So far the expander has done me well. I'm probably headed for a second Noise engineering versio as well since desmodus became too useful to ever change the firmware!

I'm in the same boat of wondering if I need another Pam's! And if you haven't tried Elector, it's worth flashing (but yes, having two is super handy).
@Synmomusic
@Synmomusic 3 жыл бұрын
@@JayHosking I'll definitely give it a shot. My Desmodus started as an imitor, but as soon as I flashed it to a desmodus, I just went ahead and bought the desmodus faceplate since it was too useful. I may just go ahead and get the winterbloom pack of magnetic faceplates. This video also crashed a wrecking ball into my modular grid plan to finish my second rack as I'm pretty sure I need the ensemble oscillator now.

Hey Jay, this is a little off topic but I'm planning on getting an mpc live 2, with the addition of expanding the mixer with USB audio in the latest update, what mixer would you recommend?

Insanely cool. Love the explanations. A really creative use of four voices in your rig. Would you say this is the extent of your rig, or do you have more modules than this?

I've got a couple percussive modules I'm going to experiment with, and I imagine things will swap in and out from here at some point, but I'm also quite happy with what it can do.
@CHONKERBOT
@CHONKERBOT 3 жыл бұрын
I'm wondering because the financial cost of building a rack powerful as this is one thing, but it's obvious, that you have to invest a LOT of time to look at what's around, learn to think modular, trying to imagine how you can use your every purchase, or rather - what would help you to materialize your sound concept. How long are you sitting on this topic, what was your journey looked like to land with your current setup (I assume that you have a lot more blinking panels behind the frame) and how long were you learning this to gain the skills to perform live a beautiful dark ambient track like this?
@JayHosking
@JayHosking 3 жыл бұрын
I was definitely thinking about it and watching videos on it for months before performing anything on the channel. I knew I wanted to create a multi-voice setup. In retrospect I'd probably do some things differently (i.e. start with just effects and a Pam's and build from there). But a lot of my experience with hardware synths applied here, and a lot of the modular experience is happy accidents (this song came out of just enjoying the sound of the 4ms Ensemble Oscillator on its own, hence the no-sequencing thing). I don't have a lot of other modules beyond what's shown, mainly just a couple of drum modules that I'll be using in the future. Using the building tool on Modular Grid was huge for me, and I'd strongly recommend it too. Let's chat sometime about it on Discord!
