Sounds pretty good overall. I’m convinced a lot of VST companies don’t know what marcato is for brass though - they don’t have enough front to the note. This sounds the case with CSB.

Thanks for the excellent review. Getting this library very soon. I can't understand why this long anticipated library hasn't had more reviews. Where are the unusual suspects who usually review these libraries. Anyway all the more appreciated for the review. Thanks

Please, I wanted to ask you a question, which has a stronger dynamic range, the patch 6 horns legato of century brass or the patch 4 horns of cinematic studio brass, thank you very much

Hi, as I don’t own Century Brass, I can’t comment on that. CSB is definitely known for its dynamic range, it’s huge.

Thank you very much for the review Christopher, 3 weeks ago I bought it and I am very happy. But I'm missing the patch of 2 horns and trumpet ensemble. Is there any way in kontakt of about two patches of single horn and that sounds like 2 horns? thank you.
@ChristopherSiu
@ChristopherSiu 5 жыл бұрын
Michelo Hi Michelo, are you saying your copy of the library is missing those patches? If so, I would try redownloading the library and see if you still have that problem. If so, I’m sure Alex’s support team will be happy to help you out!

@@ChristopherSiu My copy, not all. There is no standard patch of 2 horns, nor trumpet ensemble. As much I can join the trumpet solo and 2 trumpets in one, so I would have an ensemble.

Great review. I’m on limited HD space and was planning to get Spitfire studio brass and winds (core) in the spring sale starting soon. However I haven’t heard a great demo of that yet and love your playing on CSB! Have you tried Spitfire Studio Brass and if so how do you think it compares?

Thanks for this! That they can sound so good out-of-the-box really helps, but should never be relied on completely: As a media composer, you have the gift & knowledge to NOT play these sample libraries as a keyboardist, something where many composing midi music (even some sample library creators doing demos) fail, because play-composing a particular instrument to get the realistic characteristics of it (making it sound "idiomatic"), is equally important to the sample quality, & how they are structured, to make these sounds work best in the end!

Trombones can’t really play legato, it would sound like portamento because of the slide. Even with real life players there’s always a slight gap between the notes.

In the repetitions you do not explain the role of the sustain pedal mentioned in the manual which is confusing: what does the sustain pedal do? The repetitions sound the same with or without the sustain pedal, despite what it says in the manual. Can you please clarify?

hello man, how do feel Cinematic Brass vs CineBrass? Strengths?
@ChristopherSiu
@ChristopherSiu 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Artemi, this is a pretty easy comparison for me, maybe I'll do a video comparing the 2 libraries. CSB is smoother, has a wider dynamic range, and is very playable. CineBrass boasts a better tone, intuitive programming, and the Sony ambience that I just love. Make sure you listen to the demos and figure out which one you prefer before purchasing one or the other!

Sounds so incredibly detailed. Unfortunately the smaller ensemble sizes are a deal breaker for me. At their current sizes the ensemble patches sound more like the brass section of a big band than of an orchestra to me. I'm sure it's not just the smaller ens, the room probably has a lot to do with it as well and maybe some other mixing related things but that's just the feeling I get.
@oceanic7146
@oceanic7146 4 жыл бұрын
One solution to that would be to write and record more parts to simulate standard orchestra sections (i.e. three trumpets, four horns, three bones, etc)
@OttoPilot33
@OttoPilot33 4 жыл бұрын
This little work of mine was performed by one solo instrument per part strictly according with Copland's orchestration: 4 horns, 3 trumpets, 3 trombones and 1 tuba in the brass section. What do you think?: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lWWXZHeKg95qaKM I also have some examples with CSB's brother library Cinematic Studio Strings.

I wonder why they didn't sample some of the instruments down to a low C..I guess you just have to pitch it down, then transpose..
