Aside from that, I haven't tested out the new cinnamon version yet as I'm only using Mint 22 Wilma as I'm typing this out. Back in an earlier version of cinnamon, if you have a lot of rounded corners on your menu theme, it would significantly lag the menu animation, especially on bigger corner radius settings and icons to consider, even on a beefy computer. I suspect it has something to do with how cinnamon handles its animations, and it might still be true on cinnamon 6.4.

the newer versions of GTK separate the styles out. so gnome can develop their own style "Adwaita". so if you want to use gtk, either develop your own styles or use Adwaita

Cinnamon has to be my favorite DE but I need Wayland for quite some games so I'll probably just wait until Cinnamon finally has official Wayland integration to switch back

Cinnamon is a nice, solid DE that is a bit of a mess underneath. However, they are improving on the messy code that came from the mash-up of the old Gnome/GTK code with their ideas/designs for their forks. It is boring, but not in a bad way. Not a DE for me, but it is certainly a solid option for many.

From what I can see it looks like you are using Linux Mint Beta. Which is what will be the next version of Linux Mint which is Linux mint 22. Since Cinnamon is made by Linux Mint Mint will be the first to get Cinnamon 6.4. As I am on Debian Sid it will probably be ported to Debian and Ubuntu next. Because I am on Debian Sid I have Cinnamon 6.2.9 which is the same versions as Linux Mint LMDE6 and Linux Mint 22. If you are on Debian Stable which is Bookworm you will still only have Cinnamon 5. Still Cinnamon is a good desktop and yes it is Gnome the same as Mate is. Both are just alternative versions of Gnome and have the more traditional style desktop that was in Gnome 2.

It looks like I'm using Linux mint but I am not, I'm using arch :P The reason I titled the video and thumbnail is that gnome is because of the new UI designs they implemented, it looks very similar to gtk3 designs from the gnome team which is fine by me as it looks nice

@@linuxnext So your are using Arch. It does look very much like Linux Mint. But then that is because it's Linux Mint that make Cinnamon so it has most of the Mint themes. It looks similar to Gnome because it is Gnome based the same as Mate. So most of the Gnome apps and software work on both desktops. Much of the Cinnamon desktop is made up of Gnome apps and libraries from Gnome. The same is also true of Mate and also Budgie another Gnome based desktop.

Actually, Ms. Borman, I installed CachyOS the other day, an Arch derivative, and it came with this new version of Cinnamon because Arch is very bleeding edge. Probably other rolling release distros are already using it too. Have a great day!

I would like to see the settings app improve. I don't like the tiles all over the page in categories, I expect a settings page to look more like Plasma's or Gnome's with categories on the left and options of the selected category on the right side of the window.

4:30 If those are the issues with it on Wayland, then we can say it's ready: KDE Plasma has had this kind of issue since ever and to this day, and everyone just lives with it. The devs themselves consider it working as intended, so… Also, Gnome doesn't have VRR unless you manually enable it, so by today's standards on the Wayland DE landscape, it's ready.

what issue are you referencing? i pointed out problems that dont happen on kde plasma wayland as i use it as my main desktop for a while now, i also pointed problems with the ui not being correctly aligned, main monitor panel issues, i dont have those problems on kde plasma and i have setup kde plasma too many times to count if you think thats a "good" standard for a wayland desktop then thats a pretty low bar, linux mint devs even say its experimental and not ready for daily use and its why its not enabled by default on cinnamon or a linux mint install

@@linuxnext I'm pretty sure they do, default Linux Mint ships with legacy themes and modern themes, the old legacy ones look like Win Vista era UI. I don't expect the mint team to remove this feature, though they may change the defaults
