I was the lead truck driver on the US/Canada "And Justice for All" tour back about 1989. The band had decided they wanted to play in every state in the US. That put them in some unusual venues in Delaware and New Hampshire. When they played in Nome, Alaska the sound system caught on fire. The crowd thought it was part of the show and the crew extinguished it pretty quickly so no harm no foul? Curiously enough, Hector Lizardi, formerly Billy Graham the evangelist's accountant, was on the tour. While we were eating sushi off 8 mile road in North Detroit, Hector asked Lars what he wanted to do when he grew up. Without missing a beat, Lars said, "I wanna be an accountant because they can steal from everybody."

In 35 years of tour logistics, I've never seen the sound, instruments and stage gear travel at the same pace as the artists. Lars gets it. He is a killer drummer who knows his songs and his craft. He then and always has his kit set up in advance before the stringed instruments come out of their cases. He's ready to play. And is made to wait while guitarists, bassist tune up, and change guitars. Patience beyond measure, yet he gets the brunt of non-musicians negative comments. It's hard to play drums and you have to be fit. I saw all this as a guitarist and musician 45 years. RESPECT.
