A beautiful Symphony, in a beethovenian style, but powerful and with elements of strong originality. Finale is really exciting. Cipriani Potter is another musician theat deserves to be better known. Thank you for sharing e make better our knowledge.

Although for me myself, it has more of Mendelssohn style, the way how Potter organized the dynamics and expressions and other elements, especially when it comes to the first movement, my outmost favourite out of every part of the Symphony. The key change from the Minor to Major in some parts of the Symphony, might be very Mendelssohn like to me, especially Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 1, which is very similar to my ears in this Potter's Symphony. But, you are right that this Symphony No. 3 does sound in Beethovenian style, and it is undeniable to me myself, especially regarding the fact that Mendelssohn also seemed to be heavily influenced by Beethoven, although of course, he still kept originality. And also the fact that Potter was also around twenty years older than Mendelssohn, so might be that Mendelssohn had a bit of Potter's influence, especially from what I've heard, Mendelssohn liked England a lot. Although from what I have researched, that is Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 1 was composed two years before Potter did so, but from what I might expect, although might not be anyone who isn't me, is that Mendelssohn still had a lot of influence from Potter. Who knows. Someone has to correct me if I am giving false information anyways. Overall, whatever it is said to be, this Symphony will always be enjoyable in anyways whatsoever. :)

@@farrelpermadi5471 Yes no doubt on Mendelssohn style, and on similarity with his first Symphony. To be considered also the same C Minor key, but you're right when consider Beethoven influence on young Mendelssohn. Every composer writing in C Minor in that age could only be influenced by Beethoven!!! Very likely also that Mendelssohn knew Cipriani's music when he was in England, also if first Symphony has been written before.

Where has Potter been all my life? I have listed to this symphony on numerous occasions and find something new and interesting each time that I listed to it. Although he is a man of his time, I find his writing style to be quite original and unique and not simply a carbon copy of Beethoven, Schubert, Weber, etc. It is only a pity that I could not find this on CD, at least here in the U.S. This looks like NAXOS' orchestra and conductor regulars. I'm hoping that this will be released, as I would be the first one in line to buy of a copy.

The reason why there's so many underappreciated composers is because you are always comparing them. Please stop that, when you meet someone you don't say "Oh your voice kinda sounds like my uncle Gerald" 🙄
