Beautiful demonstration of how constant fourth or fifth movements are so common in popular music, maybe more than people would imagine. I have met people who think the Circle of Fifths serves only for key signatures, and don't even try to apply it to different contexts to experiment or discover

Great to visualize the progressions based on root notes! But I think it'd be even more effective if the visualization included relative minor, since the circle of fifths is so helpful for learning key signatures not just starting notes in a sequence. So while it's super helpful to see those root notes in order, it'd be even more helpful to see which keys would light up for the relative minor too (like in Fly Me to the Moon, when it gets to A, the A minor would light up the C section, maybe in a different color or less prominent, but just so that the imagery for key signatures is visible as well)
@rmiddlehouse
@rmiddlehouse 3 жыл бұрын
Can you explain more? When it gets to A the minor lights up C?
@currymuttonpizza2
@currymuttonpizza2 3 жыл бұрын
@@rmiddlehouse Both A minor and C major have no sharps or flats - having the same key signature, A minor is the *relative minor* of C major. The sequence in Fly Me to the Moon follows the sequence when it comes to root notes only (the beginning of each scale). But the placement of A here in the circle of fifths is based on *A Major* which has three sharps. It would sound super bizarre if the key signatures were maintained in this chord progression (the word "Mars" would be a half step higher and the chord would match that). So it makes sense that in the song itself it's modified to be melodically and harmonically pleasant. But if someone were to go to the piano or guitar and play these chords based on their key signatures it would sound weird. So to me it feels important to denote that it is modified.

My English is not very good but I will try. A few days ago I found a song that sounded very similar to "I will Survive", called "I love to hate you". The idea that there were more songs like that came to my mind, I found another one called "Todos me miran", from Gloria Trevi; and when I went with my sister in the car, she plays "I love you like a love song" and at work it sounded "Killing me softly. " I couldnt help thinking that something related them. A friend who knows music told me that it was "The circle of the fifths." And thanks to you now I know there are songs that apply it, not just the ones I thought. I thank you forever because now I can sleep peacefully knowing that I was not crazy XD
