We hope you will join in for a conversation that is more personal than usual to learn practices that will benefit your own relationships.
Holy relationships are a bit of a mystery.
What makes them work? What throws them off track?
In this podcast, Circle founder Robert Perry and executive director Emily Bennington will share what they are learning within their own holy relationship. In particular, they will describe what they call the “three legs of the stool,” each of which is crucial to a relationship that is both holy and whole.

“You can not keep your ego intact and experience increasing joining over time, the two are mutually exclusive.” So true. I feel connected when I put my ego aside and feel disconnected when I’m in my ego. All the time! Thank you for such meaningful conversation 🙏🏾

Minute 16:05 - What Emily is stating here is, in my experience, a most fundamental quality in a human being, especially in the intimate relationship where the ego is most prone to triggering in its wounds, and where I beg to differ in what society constantly tell us about expressing our feelings. Aie!! Knowing to over-ride the screaming voice that wants to "express my feelings" - and this is for nearly every situation, with some exceptions when things need to be negotiated - has been the most vital learning for me. I cannot say enough about how important it is to ride that wave without engaging my partner, to reconnect deeply with myself, no need to bring him/us pain, and now I've become a pretty good surfer after more than 20 years!! With practice, these moments of troubled waters hardly ever arise at all any more. This used to be called maturity. Thank you so much for speaking on the Holy Relationship. It is everything.

Thank you both for this wonderful discussion! There is a man that I fell deeply in love with recently... and I was given a very short vision of us in a past life. In this life, we were in ancient Egypt. I was his mother and he was my baby. There was a war going on at the time, and so I had to leave my baby behind. I don't think I ever forgave myself for doing that in that lifetime. And now, here we are reincarnated again, and it is a great honor to be able to have another chance to make that relationship holy. Unfortunately, we did have to 'separate' once again in this life, because, (and I say this with no judgment in my heart, only love) it is clear that there are still things he needs to work through on his own before entering a relationship. This time, I am trying to deal with this separation with forgiveness. It is not easy, and ironically enough, when I have very low points of missing him, I say "I miss my baby" (I called him Baby as a term of endearment). I do hope that at some point in this life we will reunite in form, and will be able to truly make the relationship holy. Only problem is that he is not spiritual let alone a Course student. Honestly that may have been our reason for separating. Our purpose for the relationship just was not aligned. Who knows.

It is with a pang of wistfulness that I must admit I have never had a holy relationship such as is described and probably never will in this life. Only the special relationships it seems and their lessons upon reflection. If so, that is a part of God's plan. And so there is peace aplenty.

i agree Christian It sounds good in theory but the human condition in us wants to make some in our life special its just what we do and of course that will break down at some point and cause suffering

@@larzhillbot1443 yes it does seem to be something the mind does to some extent regardless... I might add also that there is something a bit contradictory in contrasting 'special' relationships with 'holy' relationships. 'Holy' sounds to me like a very special form of relationship, especially when applied to an intimate one. One doesn't have a holy relationship with just anyone, after all. I would imagine that the holy would recognize this dimension in every relationship. Only the separate can relate or work together, or in other words there must be a recognition of separateness, though it does not make us in any way special in the eyes of love. God's love reaches regardless of all separation but for that the false self/other projects into each. Or something like that. Maybe?

The paradox is that if you see your relationship as more holy than another for any reason, even if it’s because you’re both studying ACIM, then you’ve made it special by giving it a purpose other than forgiveness, that is, other than teaching the sameness of all brothers in their equal holiness. I have not read in the Course anything about certain relationships having a preordained holiness, rather that anyone that you meet, in any context, is an opportunity given by the Holy Spirit for a holy relationship if you give it that purpose. And since minds are one, the common purpose need be no more than a desire to join in some way. To see it any other way is to impose limits on the healing that is possible in all relationships.

The topic of holy relationships is addressed at length in the Course, so I would encourage you to study it for yourself. That's always better than assuming what the Course "must" teach on a subject. The topic of holy relationships is found especially in the Text, over six chapters in Chapters 17-22 (17.V is an important section, for instance). See also Manual for Teachers, section 2, and also the Psychotherapy supplement, especially 2.II and 2.VII.

I have been seeking this type of relationship for years. I had a brief NDE at the age of Thirteen. I was told it wasn’t my time to go yet, and I was back in my body. What I took from that was an overall lack of fear. It seems like my pattern is having partners that live in a state of constant fear and we can’t seem to communicate on a deeper level. Thank you for this talk. I really appreciate what you guys do.

I stopped at 22 mins to add this exception. I don't think we should be taught to rely on conversation between partners as the venue for acquiring peace. My partner, for example, is not able to converse at the same level as me, due to aphasia..but also this is not unique. Often men, in general do not have the equal conversation capacity as women. ( Again... generally). I think this is where the third member of the relationship enters, i.e. the Holy Spirit - who brings with her presence a non verbal understanding of each other. By yielding to that presence peace can be obtained without conversation, and in our case it is our ultimate reliance. I haven't listened further yet, so maybe you got there😊.

A relationship can be holy for an instant ❤️ that instant lasts as long as we want. It is through our inner workings which we will allow the relationship to be what we want it to be.

Curious what Jesus in the Course conveys about homosexuality - and can a holy relationship occur with anyone regardless of sexual preference. Obviously inquiring of a hetero couple here on this channel yet open to hear from others that might see this post and feel moved to respond as well. I get that forms cannot join only minds so am sensing I may have the answer to my question already🙏🏻
